“Wonderful hotel on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Had a wonderful time at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. The location is perfect and within walking distance of everything. I loved the bar near the beach where you could have a mahi tai and watch the sun go down. The other bar was awesome too and had some great live music! The salt water pool is amazing and the people and staff are so friendly and nice.
Would definitely go back again!

For us this was the complete package, great location right on Waikiki, great room, great view, very polite and helpful staff, spotlessly clean and with excellent food.

From the moment we arrived we were treated exceptionally well. Met with a warm welcome as we walked into the front of the hotel and escorted and handed over to reception. Quick and informative check in before making our way to a beautiful ocean view suite on the 14th floor with balconies on two sides of the building. The room was spotlessly clean and each day we were given a cheery good morning by our cleaner Sue.

During our stay had excellent meals in all three restaurants with a special mention for the Ocean Seafood restaurant, great food and service. Had early evening drinks in the poolside bar where we were looked after in great style, particularly by Raymond.

I notice that another member has commented about the card offering a free gift and complaining that they got conned into attending a Time Share presentation. Well we checked out the offer and before being entitled to the gift had to sign a form stating that we would attend a two hour presentation. It was crystal clear what it was and so we simply declined.

Step out of the hotel and yards away was a multitude of shops, restaurants and bars and bus stops taking you anywhere on the Island.

All round I can find nothing to complain of with only a very good mark going to the breakfast stopping a full house of 5/5.

I would and almost certainly will return to this hotel.

The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is a great hotel with wonderful staff and an amazing location on Waikiki Beach. The facility is well maintained and situated steps from the best sand, shopping, and parks in the area. I stayed at the Reef recently with a 10-member Air Force flightcrew because all the rooms at Hickam AFB and Pearl Harbor were full (darn!). The Reef's Military Liaisons were a joy to work with and they went above and beyond to ensure we had rooms for the whole crew despite a changing roster and an unpredictable schedule. I've been staying at the Reef for over ten years, both on duty and off, and will continue to do so without hesitation.

This is our seventh trip to the Hawiian islands & fourth time vacationing at Honolulu, the first at this hotel and one of our most enjoyable. All of the staff went the extra mile to meet our needs and were very pleasent to interact with. We had a noon check out the last day and a 10pm air departure. They checked our bags in secure storage, allowed us to use the pool and beach area, then provided us with a room where we could shower and prepare for travel. The beach front location is a little removed from the more overly crowded area & next to a large park with a great beach which we greatly enjoyed. There are three resturants on site, two directly on the ocean and the third by the wonderful pool, provided pleasent live Hawaiian music nightly. You are only a few steps away from endless shopping, eating and entertainment opportunities: no car needed. This will definitely be our first choice when we return.

Room Tip: Partial ocean view rooms offere a great value, plus you can listen to live Hawaiian music nightly fr...

Had a fabulous stay at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel. It was in a good central (yet quiet) area of Waikiki. Close to the bus stops (to take you to Costco, Chinatown, Ala Moana Shopping Centre), shopping is right outside your door and within walking to the beach strip, restaurants easily accessible, and it even has a Starbucks in the lobby! Pool was large enough and there were lounge chairs available all the time. Shorebird restaurant is located in the hotel complex - it has a good happy hour menu with beach view. Hotel is great for also watching sunset on your balcony (or down at the beach below the hotel). Hotel was clean and service was friendly. Check out their complimentary services - lei making, hula dancing, ukelele lessons, and vow exchange! We did the vow exchange and it was nice (a bit cheesy, but it was Hawaiian style). We would come back to stay here for sure.

The hotel was beautiful and always bustling with activity. The lobby felt more like a cruise ship interior than a hotel with the open-air feel, numerous shops and the salt-water pool. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, and the balcony was a great way to get some cool air in without using the AC.Getting lounges by the pool was never a problem and there was NO resort fee! And free WiFi is always nice.

The cook-your-own meat restaurant was a little bizarre, especially at those prices. However there are several good restaurants just up Lewers Street. The drinks at Shore Bird are well-priced at happy hour and late-night, but we ordered several Mai Tais, and they were very poor imitations.

We highly recommend catching some of the free live music (wonderful local acts) every night between 6-9 at the pool bar/resto under the open sky. Grab dinner there or any early meal somewhere else and come back and catch the end of the show - it was great!

Nothing can be perfect, and there were a few drawbacks at the Outrigger Reef. Unlike the Outrigger Waikkii, it was not on the main beach strip. To get to the main beach area you have to walk about 10-minutes past the other hotels on narrow ocean-front paths or trudge through the deep sand. The location and design of the monstrous Sheraton means there is no direct route off-beach either (have to go a little out of the way). We swam in front once and it was quite rocky. I'd recommend you go right when exiting onto the beach (away from the main strip). There is a quiet, beautiful sandy area to swim a couple of blocks over.

Overall, a great stay, but we might try its sister Outrigger Waikiki next time.

The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is a very nice hotel. The rooms are modern and very clean. The layout of the hotel is also very nice. The lobby area is open and leads to the pool and a bar/restaurant.

The hotel is also located near a lot of restaurants and shopping.

We had a nice view of the pool and ocean from our balcony. Since they had music everynight by the pool, it was nice to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view & music.

The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the concierge service. We wanted to go to Pearl Harbor on our own and they were trying to sell us a tour. They also tried to trick us into a free breakfast and then told us we had to go to another hotel nearby for a tour after the breakfast. We were on vacation and didn't want to spend 3+ hours touring another hotel. When we told them we didn't want to do the breakfast and wanted to do Pearl Harbor on our own also, they weren't interested in helping us figure out how to take the bus to get to Pearl Harbor. In the end, the Bell Desk was very helpful. They helped us book a transfer to Pearl Harbor at a reasonable price. Also, everytime we'd walk by the conceirge desk, they'd motion for us to come over (so they could sell us a tour).
