“Great room in Waikiki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

You would never guess the wonders that appear behind the doors at the Aqua Bamboo just from looking from the street. I had a wonderful stay there in February 2009. I stayed in the penthouse suite which was absolutely wonderful. It had a private balcony that went around the whole building and overlooked the city. I even had my own private sauna and jacuzzi in the room. It was very spacious and even had a washer/dryer in it. This was definately not the room that I booked but I appreciated the upgrade. The room that I had originally booked was nice but not quite like this one. It was only a block from Waikiki beach and plenty of restaurants were nearby. As a travel professional I will be sure to refer others going to Hawaii to this hotel.

  • Liked — The extra amenties in the room: sauna, jacuzzi, large balcony made the room seem more plush.
  • Disliked — No complaints

We have always stayed at the major hotels in Waikiki, what a difference! The Bamboo is a small botique hotel with a staff that really cares. Unlike the big hotels, there are many free amenities such as breakfast, coffee anytime and internet. They even had a free rack to store my surfboard. I never had the feeling that I was being gouged like many of the big hotels try to do. I will be coming back to the Bamboo.

After reviewing several hotels, my wife and I decided on this one, and were we surprised. From the outside it may not look much but it was the inside the really made us smile. The moment we were greeted with a smile from the front desk person Fe to the excellent service we received, we knew that this was a good choice.

Fe helped us out with our honeymoon stay, making sure that we had a great time. They even had a little surprise for us when we opened the door. The room was a smaller than expected but it was wonderfully done. Besides, in Hawaii, why would we want to stay in?

Although the breakfast was a little small, it was delicious and really nothing to complain about. The pool area was great as well. Very quiet and relaxing.

The location was great, within walking distance from pretty much everything. Overall, an excellent accommodation to stay in! We really enjoyed our stay there, most especially the wonderful service from Fe and Joy, who made sure that we had a honeymoon to remember.

  • Liked — The service and the quiet location.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

Stayed at the Aqua Bamboo for 4 nights last month from Jan. 14th, and we really like it. We're there to met our friends from Australia and from the East Coast. The night front desk who check us in was very friendly and it takes less than 5 minutes to process us and we're up in the room. She explained everything about the hotel information and so as the outside tourist activities while she's processing us. We are thirsty and the bottle of water she give really help us and cool. The bellman also was very kind to bring our luggage inside our room. The hotel wasn't high enough to see the ocean view but the beach is just a few minutes away. We like our room especially the continental breakfast that was set up outside the pool area every morning and the non stop service of Ms. Wong. We stayed in Big Hotels before but we never experience the service we received at the Bamboo. Staff are warm and genuinely friendly.

The ONLY negative part of our stay was, we asked the front desk if we could stay all the way to the 18th without checking out from the hotel the day of the 16th, but she said the hotel rooms are sold out on that day. She apologized and tried to help us booked to another hotel sister property. We asked her if we could keep our luggage after check=out and come back later in the evening and she said okay. We came back in the hotel around 9:20 pm to pick up our luggage but to our dismay there's 2 stretch limousine park and blocking the driveway so we have to drive around the circle many many times. Outside the lobby we saw young mans all dressed in black and girls inside the lobby screaming with excitement seeing each other taking pictures in and outside the lobby. To our dismay, we recognized the Guest Service Manager (Joy) who was wearing a tank less dress and a boot shoes taking pictures with them and also showing them around the pool area. When they left around 9:45 pm we asked the bellman to bring our luggage out and load them to our car. Other guests that are sitting in the lobby also shaking their heads but overall our stay is great. We definitely recommend this hotel again.

I travel to Honolulu once a year on business and I love this hotel. Those of you on generous expense accounts won't care, but if you are spending your own money, this is a great value. There is but one grocery store on Waikiki, and it is a five-minute walk from the hotel.

The units have a stove, microwave and refrigerator, plus plates and such so you can buy groceries and do a bit of cooking if you want.

What I found to be the best Korean food in Waikiki is across the street. The servings are generous and affordable.

The best of Waikiki's beaches are a three-minute walk and the neighborhood actually contains some locals, not just other visitors.

The staff is friendly and helpful. There are 3 or 4 ABC stores within five minutes walk, in case you forgot to bring something with you.

  • Liked — value and location
  • Disliked — honestly my work location is at the north end of Waikik, so the hotel is not extremely close to work...but I love this end of the beach

This was the perfect find!!! Hop skip and a jump to the water, central to all the bars and upon finding out it was our ten year anniversary a beautiful fruit basket with a hand written note from Leonar was delivered to our room. Leonar also gave me her lei to wear which was commented on by all the locals for its beauty. Great stay, we got a renovated studio on special of USD100 a night, Would recommend it as in that price range the other options were seriously dingy! If budget is the name of the game then I recommend staying here. Also free breakfast each morning of fruit, danish, muffins and juice and coffee!

This was our second three week visit to the "Bamboo" and we will be back for more. The view from our third floor room of the central courtyard and pool was great but not quite as spectacular as our view last year from the eleventh floor. The room was, however, refurbished and larger than last year and this made up for the loss of the great view. The staff were very friendly and helpful as usual. Any minor deficiencies that we noted were resolved qhickly.
