“Would definitely stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

The staff was friendly and helpful at all times. Pretty little pool area, but water was cold. The room was not large, but adequate. The studio with kitchenette has a small refrigerator with an ice tray - plenty of room to keep our breakfast foods. Also had a toaster, microwave, small stove, and coffee maker and coffee packages. Basically, it had all the things you would need to eat a meal in your hotel room. The bathroom was small but clean and the towels were in good condition. The bed was comfortable with good sheets. Staff provided us with free beach chairs, beach towels, and a free umbrella when it rained. Parking was expensive - we saved some money by parking in another lot.
In other words - the room offered everything you need for a comfortable vacation. If you want luxury, spaciousness and a gorgeous view, go ahead and spend a lot more money somewhere else. This was a good location with a short 2 block walk to the beach, a wonderfully friendly staff, and a decent price, by Waikiki standards.

Room Tip: We had a pool-side room, which we heard does not have as much traffic noise. This is the city, so yo...

We stayed for a week in March 2013. Yes, the building is older, but we were quite pleased with the room size, kitchenette, relaxing pool area, and friendly staff. There is a lot of street noise that leaks through to the rooms, but we kept the AC fan on at night and it was no problem. I really like the location, only a couple of blocks to Kuhio beach, and lots of restaurant choices nearby. I would stay there again. However, we paid $217/nt which I feel is is too much for what you get. We didnt use WIFI but the wired connection in the room worked okay. My only real complaint is that the spa owner is a high pressure sales type. Had a nice massage, and might have had another, but according to him I needed another $1,000 worth of treatments. Nah.

We stayed here because it offered two rooms and we had 4 people staying together. The condition of the rooms were fine, we sleep with fans so the AC to us was not loud, though to others, it may be. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were small though we normally were enjoying the beach rather than staying in our room.

The biggest problem I had with this place was the noise.. you can hear everything on the main street. (We had a street view room) This kept two of our family awake a lot during the night and forced me to use ear plugs to drown out the road sound. Fixing this problem should be a major concern for this hotel since its not that hard to put more sound-proof glass on the doors and seal the area around each of the AC units.

Glad to hear they are getting WiFi in the rooms. The pool was nice but very cold; the hot tub was used way more than the pool during our stay. The staff was amazing, always friendly, and always helpful.

I would not stay here again though due to the loudness of the rooms. If this was fixed I would happily stay again.

Room Tip: Try not to get a street facing room if at all possible, else buy earplugs!

Aloha Ryan C,
Thank you for taking the time to outline the inconveniences that you endured. We are very sorry for this experience and are most disappointed to learn that your visit was tarnished. All things considered, we should have been able to meet your expectations with satisfactory accommodations and the level of service that you would expect from Aqua Hotels & Resorts and the Aqua Bamboo Waikiki.

I will personally bring your comments to the attention of our management team. Please know that we will address the details of your experience. I would like to inform you that we do have lovely Courtyard View rooms which overlook the pool area. They are a little more spacious, and much quieter. This may be a great option for you if you would ever like to come back and try the Bamboo again.

If you have the opportunity to return to Hawaii, we sincerely hope that you will consider Aqua Hotels & Resorts.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Just returned from a week long stay at the Aqua Bamboo Waikiki and I am already missing our assigned room, 1003. A lot of time was invested in researching different hotels and ultimately, I selected this one based on the attractive accommodations, location, and price. Not to mention, I waited until Cyber Monday rolled around so I could take advantage of the discount code, which saved me good chunk of change and made this hotel even more budget-friendly.

When finalizing my reservation for a one-bedroom suite with a kitchenette, I requested a room above the pool (based on previous suggestions) and asked for two queen beds so it would comfortably fit a family of four. Although that particular accommodation was unavailable above the pool, the staff was able to provide an amazing room that was high enough to escape the noisy streets.

Room 1003 was immaculate. It included two queen beds, a single futon, two televisions, a DVD player, two mini-fridges, a small dining area, and a large bathroom (with two separate showers). Yes, my jaw dropped when I walked into the room for the first time; in fact, I am still stunned by the room and I didn't find any problems like previous guests. The A/C was quiet, the room was spacious, and nothing appeared outdated. An outstanding element to our stay was the hotel staff. The employees were very friendly, helpful, and exuded such warmth--it was obvious they really put their guests first.

Aside from the room and hotel staff, the available services and amenities were viewed as perks; for instance, the free beach towels and chairs were perfect for toting around Hanauma Bay. Plus, I would occasionally fill my reusable water bottle with the chilled lemonade and iced tea situated in the lobby. The hotel itself was in a prime location, it was right across the street from the bus stop, a couple blocks from the beach, and near two cheap garages (Waikiki Banyan, $12/day & Pacific Monarch, $20/day). Overall, I am more than satisfied with all this hotel has to offer and I would stay here again. Never have I experienced such a sentimental attachment with a hotel--Thank you, Aqua Bamboo.

The place is a little old and run down. The wood trim that runs across the ceiling, starts and ends abruptly. Lack of, simple attention to detail. It's like the room was unfinished.

The washroom is a bit on the older side. No fan for ventilation. There's simply a hole in the wall with a grill and mesh for air to travel in/out of the washroom to allow air to flow. The problem is, noise also flowed freely. Which means, you can hear buses go by, people screaming, the garbage truck picking up the trash. If you're from a newer trendier city, this washroom would be considered clean but you would only find a similar one in a trashy neighborhood.

The rooms all have a more traditional hold in the wall air conditioner. They are constantly on and the problem is they are located right above and beside the bed. The hole in the wall for the air conditioner also allowed noise from the busy street to flow into the room. So not only do you enjoy the noisy streets in the washroom; you also get to enjoy it all while in bed as well.

The better?
- Location is not bad. It's relatively close to the beach and close to the shopping.
- Pool is decently modern. Has a hot tub. It's also very small though.
- Parking was only $25 if you parked with them. $20 if you parked in the building to the right of them.
- They have a kitchen in the one bedroom with a small beer fridge. Although, pictures we saw had a picture of a full size fridge.
- Room was clean.
- Staff was decent. They reminded us that we would not get our money back because we booked our stay as a package when we left midway through our stay. Felt a bit like being locked into a cell phone contract but it was either that or suffer through lack of sleep for the rest of the vacation.

Cons:
- You may not be able to sleep through the night
- It's a little run-down even though it's gone through renovation (which I'm only aware of because I've read the other reviews)
- Somethings you just can't renovate to make it newer. The building is just older. The rooms are just older, the air conditioning is the type that will be loud.
- Internet in the room is wired only. Apparently, it's high speed internet. In this day and age, where you can get a wireless router for $60, needing a wired connection is just strange. Most tablets are not wired. If you had a MacBook Air for instance, you can connect to a wired connection without an adapter. Phones are mini computers these days (surf the web, check your email, ...) and they don't connect to a wired connection. Really, you'll need to bring your own wireless router with you to be able to connect all your wireless devices. There are many travel routers you can bring with you. It's just that, you shouldn't be expected to bring one with you in this day and age.
- It wasn't priced as a budget hotel but better hotels on the beach were not that much more expensive if you shop around a bit. Got a better hotel through a walk-in special deal for roughly the same price per night.
- The one bedroom unit only offers a TV in the main living room area. The bedroom itself has no TV. Which is usually not the norm since a budget TV can be around $400 - $500 these days.

Stayed at the Aqua Bamboo for 2 weeks on a holiday with a friend.
We asked for separate beds which they accommodated and it was really handing having a small kitchenette allowing us to make our own breakfasts.
Hotel is clean, cozy and comfortable. The staff are friendly, helpful and is located back from the beach but close to 24hr restaurants as well as all the cool bars and restaurants in Waikiki.
Free Wifi is available in the lobby and by the pool, unfortunately it doesn't reach the rooms however they had cables available for me to borrow to enable me to connect my laptop to the free internet in the rooms.

Having the option to lounge by the pool was great and i really enjoy the free Lai making & Hotel get together every Thursday.

I prefer to stay in smaller boutique hotels rather than the big flashy resorts and Aqua Bamboo didn't disappoint.

Thankyou to all the staff who make our trip an enjoyable one!

Room Tip: Good option if you're planning a longer stay in Waikiki or are on a budget but still want someth...
