“Fantastic condo in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

I can’t believe the Imperial doesn’t get more love. I mean, it’s in a fabulous location, smack dab behind the luxurious Halekulani and only 1 short walk from the beach. It’s in the heart of Beach Walk which makes the location convenient for dining.

We’d walk around the Outrigger Reef between the Army museum and be on the beach in less than 5 minutes, and the beach in front of Ft. DeRussy is wide and less crowded.

The condo units are nothing fancy. I’ve rented various condos in various buildings over the years in Waikiki, and they all have been very similar, typically small and built in the 60’s or 70’s. Nothing different here. The Imperial is extremely clean and the kitchens are small but functional. You only get maid service once halfway through your stay, which is fine with us. Towels, including beach/pool towels are provided and you can swap your towels out with housekeeping for fresh ones every day if you want. Our trash was emptied quite a few times. There are laundry facilities on the 2nd floor and a fabulous owners’ lounge on the 26th floor. The view from the big balcony on the 26th floor is breathtaking – also a great spot to watch the Friday night fireworks.

There are two rather new hot tubs on the 3rd floor as well as a small fitness center with cardio equipment, weights and mats. One could easily get a decent workout in while staying here.

Off the lobby downstairs you’ll find an ABC store as well as a Denny’s, great for 1 a.m. rolling-in-from-the-beach-bar-munchies.

Parking is $25/day (OUCH) or $100/wk for owners. WiFi is $15 per week.

Traded our time share week for the Imperial though RCI. We were impressed from arrival by the service and the friendliness of the greetings. We got a 17th floor one bedroom suite with a partial ocean view. Yes, the decor is dated, which hardly registers on the negative scale. The furnishings were more than adequate for a very comfortable stay. The suite had two flat panel televisions and dvd players, two baths and could accommodate six with a pullout couch and a murphy bed but it would be very crowded. The bed in the bedroom was reasonably comfortable. The hotel features wired internet for a fee, however I opted for service from a wireless hotspot from an adjacent hotel through Skywave for $24 for the week. Parking is valet for $25 a day but they offer a $100 for the week package. We enjoyed the pool deck, despite the fact that pool is small. All in all an excellent stay!

Bought a week here thru RCI because it had a kitchen & thought we could save on meals that way. Grocery stores were inconvenient to get to so ended up spending $$$ at the downstairs ABC for our breakfasts and beach picnics. For dinner we had fun trying new restaurants for their happy hours and specials.

The hotel was very clean and beds comfortable. Street noise on the weekend but quiet during the rest of the week. Chairs and coolers could be rented inexpensively for the day or by the week. Internet was available for $3.00 per day. They had an awesome open air bar on the top floor that was available to the public when not being used for wedding receptions. What a jewel!! Highlight of our stay there. They would put out an inconspicuous sign near the elevators on the days it was open so we missed it the first couple times. The beach can be reached by walking across the street to the very short beach walkway. Used the fitness center every day. Nice pool on the top floor. Great location and good value.

We returned to the Imperial again this year after staying last year around the same time. This hotel is a little bit dated but has quite a charm about it as the people are very friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beaten and there are two fabulous restaurants just steps away in Roy's and also House Without a Key at the Halekulani. If you want good value for your dollar and not a high end hotel, this is definitely the place for you to go.

All in all a clean hotel with a helpful staff. we live in kaneohe and were celebrating my sons 6th birthday at d and b's, so we decided to make a weekend of it If i had a negative it would be no maid service on stays less then 3 days. The pool is heated at night. Being that it is on the roof that was nice. The lock on our sliding door was broken, we did not realize it until 11 pm at night. being we have young kids this was a problem. i spoke to the front desk and it was fixed right away.

This is my 2nd time to trade my time share for this hotel. Location is great! Next to Trumps tower, Halakulani, embassy suites, Dennys, Roys, great stores and coffee shops.. Staff is friendly, pool is nice ,beach next door, jacuzzis are good. The hotel itself is outdated, beds and pillows are not the most comfortable, but overall it's perfect for the location.. Don't stay here if you need high end amenities.. I would go back again.

Let me start by saying, I realize this is a time share property and many people who trade to stay here, do so because it's "Hawaii." That being said, I wouldn't suggest turning down Hawaii if the Imperial is the only chance you'll have to experience Waikiki. If not, and you have other alternatives, I would take a pass on this place.

I stayed in the studio which may have led to my not-so-great experience. The 1,2,or 3 bedroom options are probably a little better. The studio did not have a bed. It only had a roll away (which was probably from the 70's and completely uncomfortable) and this "thing" that came down from the wall that they call a bed. It's probably a full size bed type structure which was also extremely uncomfortable. That being said, I did not sleep very well during my stay. In fact, 1 night during my stay, I went on priceline and paid for a hotel room just so I could get a normal night of sleep.

Some of the pro's of the property: the staff is good and the location is good (pretty central to everything in Waikiki)

Con's: it's an aging property and it shows, towels (bathroom and beach) were disgusting, uncomfortable beds, cleaning service only once per week, and dirty furniture.

When it comes to travel, everyone has varying opinions and I realize that. What I would suggest to anyone who reads this is: ask yourself "have I ever stayed at a luxury hotel like four seasons, ritz, JW, etc?" If you have, don't stay at the Imperial. You will be completely let down. If luxury brands aren't your thing, and your used to staying at days inn and motel 6, then this place won't be so bad.

Finally, the valet guys were great and were probably the highlight of my stay.
