“Close to everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

The Ilima Hotel was handy to all amenities. Within walking distance (2 blocks) to Waikiki Beach, close to restaurants and shopping. The bus stop was one block away and only a five minute walk with buses going to both ends of Honolulu.
The Ilima Hotel had large rooms with a queen and king size bed. There was a kitchenette with tea and coffee supplied, a stove, microwave, toaster, pot, pans, etc - everything to cook your own meal.

Room Tip: The view to the mountain was probably better than towards the ocean as only glimpses were seen.

This was our first stay and It will not be the last stay very Friendly staff. There is a washer and dryer and that helped out greatly. The room is very large with frig , table and sink. The pool is small but we didn't go there for that. Had a great time....

Room Tip: Go for the top floor 16 ,15 or 14.

This was our 2nd stay at the Ilima and we can`t wait to come back again !! The staff lives the "Aloha-Spirit"; we really felt like a part of a big "ohana" (family). They always wished us a nice day when we left and greeted us with a smile and "Aloha" when we came back.
We had a deluxe-studio on the 12th floor with a great view towards the mountains and the Ala Wai canal.
Rooms: are really big; beds very comfortable (we`ve got a waterbed at home, so our backs are a little bit fastidiously because of that). Kitchen is a little bit old, but everything works.Enough dishes and cookware exists. You get free dish liquid and cloth (the room service fills the dish liquid up when its empty). Enough space in the closet for suitcases, so that you needn`t put them in the room the whole time. Bathroom has shower and tub; very clean-we never saw a single cockroach oder other insects during our stay in 3 weeks. Room service really cleans well. Everytime enough fresh, soft towels.
Noise: Very quiet-never heard any other guests; noise from outside was only from police cars and ambulances (hey, it`s Waikiki and not a lonely beach). Never heard drunken people.
Pool: Little nice pool behind the hotel; there is also a little gym and a sauna. A separate sun deck is located on the 10th floor.
The hotel offers a free kukui nut lei making class-it was really fun and we are really happy about our selfmade leis !! We also did sing-a-long with the hotel choir who sings every friday morning-that was also a lot of fun :-)
You can get a free newspaper at the front desk every weekday, except sundays. Also you can get extra towels and beachmats for free at the front desk (so you needn`t buy them).
Location: excellent-2 blocks to waikiki beach, 1 block to Duke`s Lane/Interntional Marketplace, 2 blocks to supermarket (Food Pantry), 1 block to restaurants and bus stops.
We`ll definitely book the Ilima for our 3rd time !!!

What a wonderful experience! The room made me feel like I was on vacation and at home at the same time. Very comfortable as we had a FULL size refrigerator, which is invaluable having a teenage boy, a VERY spacious room, a table to eat at, a lovely lanai used both at night and the morning (faced the canal on the 15th floor), a KING sized bed and a double bed, free parking, free internet, and a 7-8 minute walk to the beach. We bought our food at the Food Pantry two short blocks away(much more reasonably priced than I was expecting), and used the kitchenette to eat all our meals. We did not have to eat out once during our 9 night stay which saved us a ton of money. The walk to the beach was pleasant as you can always find shade if you choose your route properly. The area was very safe, extremely close to everything, quiet....well, what else can I say? Loved it! Was it luxurious? Not exactly. The paint job and the wallpaper could potentially bother you if you are picky about that kind of thing as it showed it's age a bit and the kitchenette was dated but who cares? The full sized fridge and the conveniences of home triumphed over any minor asthetic shortfall. Everything felt clean, including the carpets. The towels were fluffy, the beds were nice, the staff were great, especially the awesome cleaning ladies, and the price was fantastic. I paid $120/night in July 2012 for the Deluxe room. I would stay here again in an instant, especially if I could get such a great price again. Can't wait to go back! Thanks, Ilima!

We stayed in this hotel for 15 nights in july 2013, and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is close to the beach and lokal busses. The room was big and clean with a nice view. The staff is very polite and helpfull. We enjoyed our stay here. The gym is a bit small, but u can go running down by the canal only a minute away.

First, I agree with all the positives of the other 4 and 5 ratings. This place is really very, very nice overall. I'll just add that 1) there was complementary in-room wifi, which is not what the booking.com add says, and 2) we had some rental car trouble while there, and the hotel staff really went beyond expectations to help us. We will definitely consider staying here again.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights prior my cruise from Honolulu. This hotel has a great location, because of walking distance to the Waikiki beach. In your room, you will have available full kitchen.
Good hotel for reasonable fee.
