“Theme Park-Sized Compound”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We arrived exhausted from traveling all day from the East Coast of the US. Check in was quick and front desk rep very kind and helpful. Given that our family of 5 was visiting the week between Christmas and New Year's it was very busy, people everywhere. The crowded lobby common areas were a little disconcerting, but amazingly our floor and the Tapa Tower Family Room we were in was so quiet! We slept well without interruption. Our three teenagers took surf lessons through the Hilton and were happy with the instruction. We also went on the Fireworks Sunset Cruise. It was okay. Nice crewmen who left you alone with your family to enjoy the sunset. Food average, but wasn't expecting a gourmet meal. Very expensive for what it was. The ABC store, Starbucks, and specialty stores right on property were very convenient and helpful so that we could grab coffee or a snack without going to a full service restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a lot of amenities on property. However, if going again, I would choose something smaller just to avoid the crowd factor. We couldn't find anywhere that wasn't packed for dinner with long long waits. We ended up at a PF Changs that we would have normally never chosen while on vacation! Make sure and have reservations somewhere.

Room Tip: Tapa Tower family room was HUGE. Sort of a strange use of space. Two double beds when queens seeme...

We arrived just before the 2014 new year and stayed for 10 days. The resort was quite large with a lot of facilities and shops however its was very crowded and the check-in queue was so long it was clear that the check-in staff number was not sufficient to handle the load.

we tried to book our new years dinner at the hotel as soon as we arrived through the hotel concierge. It was disappointing service as she was more interested in getting us to attend a Hilton vacation time share seminar as a trade in for a cheaper ticket to the dinner and show knowing that we were tired and were not interested.

The hotel services was generally very poor during the stay and defiantly not a good value for money to the point that we went to another hotel (Aulani - Disney Hotel) so that the kids can enjoy the holiday.

The hotel is not designed to look after families however if you are in a large group or attending a conference it might be ok but don't expect a good service.

Before I arrived at the Hilton people had mentioned that the staff is really nice. I was very pleasantly surprise how nice the staff was. I had called their Director and she automatically upgraded me to a room with a view. This was by far the best view I have had in a hotel! The room was up on the 31st floor. The fireworks seemed like right in front of the room!!! Amazing view of the ocean and mountain.

The executive lounge added a real value as everything in Hawaii is super expensive compared to other cities in US. It was also really convenient as it was right on site. The village is a true city of its own. We explored the restaurants near by and were extremely happy with the quality of food in restaurants. We did not end up going to any chain restaurants except IHOP (which is my son's favorite).

Room Tip: Select the Rainbow tower. By far the best tower with the best view. I was offered an upgrade to a su...

This is a huge resort with a good location at the beach. we spent a week here in peak season early january. comments:

1. the resort was extremely busy with queues for virtually everything. 20 min to get a table for breakfast. 20 min to check in. 10 min to get the car from valet service etc.

2. there is a mandatory 30 usd per day resort fee which gives you access to slow internet in the room. this fee is in addition to the rate.

3. services like boat / board rental is crazy overpriced.

4. seawiev room was great. i wouldn't recommend this place without seawiev room. we could see whales from the balcony...

Upon arriving to a VERY RUDE valet guy, they left our pile of bags along with about 15 other sets of bags unattended. I was nervous about leaving them because it didn't appear that there was anyone watching them, but the valet assured us they would be fine & to go to our room & a bell hop would bring them up. Somehow, between point A & point B they lost one. And never found it! Come to find out, they don't even have cameras down there!

Problem #2: Night one we needed extra blankets and pillows for our 2 year old. After calling 3 times & even speaking to the manager they finally got us some blankets more than an hour & half after originally requested leaving our son up well past his bedtime. Night 2 we needed extra towels to give our son a bath. Once again it took close to 2 hours & multiple calls leaving our son up past his bedtime once again. Then after getting towels & putting him to sleep they come up AGAIN bringing more towels. Waking him up. (Apparently there's a serious lack of communication going on here.)

Problem#3: If you have kids or just like to get to bed before 11 FORGET ABOUT IT!! Every night they've got the music bumping downstairs loud enough that I hear it all the way at the front of the resort on the 10th floor. Every night I lay in bed just dying for them to shut it up! Not a good place for families. Seems more geared to people who want to party.

The ONLY good thing about this place is that it's located right on the beach & if you're into shopping the shops downstairs are nice. HOWEVER, the food at the restaurants in "the village" are WAY over priced for what you get compared to what you'd get just walking out of the resort. But then again, there aren't a lot of good choices to eat right outside this hotel. And whatever you do DO NOT pay $30/person for the crappy breakfast buffet! Some fruit & an omelet you have to wait 30 minutes in line for isn't worth $30, in my opinion.

If you want peace & quiet, great service, a FREE breakfast buffet that's equal to the one here, but TWO people making omelets, so the line goes much faster, & still want to get your hilton honors point go to the Embassy Suites. (We stayed there, too.) It's not right ON the beach but just across the street. Honestly, it was faster for me to get to the beach from there than it is from my room here, bc this resort's so large. The shopping & dining from there is WAY better. It's very centrally located for some great shopping & some awesome restaurants. Even the international marketplace isn't too far of a walk.

This hotel is great, if you are looking for a very commercialized tourist experience. Something for everyone onsite; with multiple pools, lagoon, and enclosed beach swimming area. A lot of people and quite busy. Restaurants are great; and open relatively late. DVD rentals included with the rooms that you can check out with your room key, for nights when you want to stay in. Beautiful view of Diamond Head and oceanfront rooms.

Enjoyed my stay here very much, as I was looking for a touristy, easy-access, destination hotel. If you are looking for something more "local", "isolated", and "quiet", this may not be the place for you. Considering how busy it was, check-in was relatively quick; and I got a free upgrade.

Overall a great stay.

Room Tip: Corner oceanfront room with a view of Diamond Head...amazing!
