Stayed in this hotel for a week during our 20th wedding anniversary trip. Arrived late from our long haul from the East Coast. Check in was a breeze since there were few people in the check-in line and since they have dedicated counter for HHonor members. We were given a room at the Ali'i Tower. It was gorgeous! Our room had a king bed on the top floor. Our balcony was facing the Rainbow tower and had a partial view of the ocean. Spent plenty of time at the balcony, sipping wine and eating room service food. The entire place is big. Plenty of activities around. Our room was excellent and we cannot complain. You can book your airport transfer within the hotel and you will be picked up in the lobby. It was an excellent accommodating for us.

This hotel is located away from the main beach area which we loved. It is a massive complex with lots of food options and about 4 different pools, lagoon and its own beach. There are lots of families at this hotel and most of the tourists are from Japan. Bar prices are very overpriced so it might be an idea to grab some stuff like coke etc from the ABC Stores and take them back to your room. The restaurants are fantastic, offering a wide variety of food and the quality was good. Not cheap but the quality of the food reflected the price! Most our time was spent just relaxing by the hotel beach, which was clean and not overcrowded like the main beaches as you walked to the city center. The main beach is only a 10 min walk away and you can go via the road or along the beach but very overcrowded there and that is why we loved the Hawaiian Village so much, bit more exclusive.

Room Tip: Must get a room with a ocean view and preferably a high level room, as the lower you are the more no...

I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a conference and while the hotel is a tad old and tired, the location is second to none.

The beach, the shops, the restaurants are all within walking distance. Head to Diamond Head for a stunning view or snorkel with the sea turtles at Hanauma Bay or just learn to surf right outside the hotel itself.

It's a big complex - five hotels in one - and that makes for a lot of trudging back and forth to the lobby or to breakfast etc. They're renovating part of the hotel and hopefully they continue on as the tower I was in (the Tapa Tower) was a bit dated.

The staff were great - friendly and relaxed and happy to chat, which is always a good sign. I'd stay there again and would take my family next time - more than enough to keep them occupied while I'm locked away in a conference room.

Room Tip: It's a bit obvious but the shops in the village are incredibly expensive. Head to the beach, tur...

It was a nice experience. My daughter liked a lot. There are penguins in the yard. We took quite a lot pictures. The gifts are a little bit expensive around the hotel. HOwever, if you walk away a little bit. You'll find nice and cheap stuff.

A big resort, suited to young families, good facilities. Staff are very helpful, we were unsatisfied with our room, no hesitation to move us to a better room. Though the hotel rooms need a huge overhaul ! Perhaps the ocean front rooms are better, find out if they have been refurbished before you book !

Positive :

1. Eugene, front desk manager who informed me over the phone what to do since i lost my id's and credit card. Thank you, Eugene. You are a star!

2. Lisa, server at Rainbow Lanai who gave me a cold milk since the ones in the buffet area is no longer cold (maybe no more ice in the container, someone should be careful with the milk not cold though). Thank you, Lisa. You are awesome!

3. Shane, surf instructor who went above and beyond to check on the other guest who backed out from surfing because he was not 'comfortable' with it, it goes to show that he is personally taking care of each and everyone in the tour. Thank you, Shane. You are a pro!

Negative :

1. Japanese Pool Attendant near Rainbow breakfast area, please smile and greet the visitors. All throughout out stay, we did not see any smile nor hear any Aloha from him. Has he gone through a customer service training?

2. Safe in the room was not working and front desk sent two security guards to check on it, only to find out that they could not do something about it and would have to ask maintenance to change the door of the safe for me. Isn't the housekeeping supervisor supposed to check if the safe is working or closed before they mark the room clean and ready for the guests?

3. Elevator was not working, second to the left. There were about 4-6 people in there and the elevator just started to stop once on the 13th floor and then went up to the 15th and went back down and would not open. One guest tried to press the red button that says 'CALL' but it did not work still. Finally, my husband did try to press the open door for a couple of seconds and it finally opened and i suggested everyone to just use a different elevator. I called the front to let them know. Is there any visible note in the elevator that tells guest what to do if it gets stuck or if does not work properly?

This was our forth time at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The last three times were better. First there is a $25 dollar fee per day resort fee which is a rip-off. This is a way of making up the lost revenue due to all (most) visitors having cell phones with internet use and free calling. Why do we need to pay for devices in a room that we do not use?

When the trip was booked at least 10 months earlier there was no mention of active construction (possibly due to the fact that it was not initiated during my booking). How about a discount or some reduction on the resort fees?

The rainbow tower was nice with a view of the ocean and diamond head but the room was small considering the amount charged per night.

The Mai Tai's at the tropics bar and grill were horrible and $11:50 each except during happy hour. If you took a 2 minute walk along the sidewalk towards diamond head and stopped at the barefoot bar (or some name similar) the Mai Tai's were $9 and $7.20 if you are in the active military and much better tasting. We spend most of our time there when felt the need for a tropical drink.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village has some pluses which are the large 20 acre private compound, beach and great sunsets. Don't rent the umbrella or lounge chairs because the cost may shock you.

If we return it would have to be under some great package deal. The cost of this vacation was not worth the money spent for what we received in return.

Room Tip: If you don't care about money go for the rainbow tower and request a corner room with a full vie...
