“PLEASANTLY SURPRISED”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

This was our 2nd stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village and again was pleasantly surprised. quality of room/amenities was very good. Stayed 5 nights in Rainbow Tower and 6 in Ali'i Tower just to see the difference. Ali'i Tower was really nice. First room which was Ocean View was nice but on the Diamond Head side of the building so we were subject to the noise of tour buses unloading and loading passengers. So next day went and told concierge desk and they moved us to a corner room overlooking the pool. Super room with wonderful view of Friday fireworks. Staff were so good about helping us move and making sure we were happy in new room ! Love the staff at Ali'i tower ! Also impressed with staff at Rainbow Tower who printed off our boarding passes for us and was so eager to assist us with any other travel needs we might have (can I actually name Adrian as the person who helped us ?)

Room Tip: Ocean view in Ali'i Tower is nice but can be a bit noisy; Prefer to stay in Rainbow Tower where...

What an amazing experience. Booked through David from RoyalHawaii.com. He gave us a great deal, and his service was A++++. Once arriving at the hotel our room was upgraded free of charge to a suite in the rainbow tower. Best view ever. Hotel is clean and the staff were amazing. Had a lovely lady Rita help us at the front desk. All in all, u can not fault either the hilton hawaiin village or RoyalHawaii.com. Very happy customer. Thank you :-)

They serve a drink at the beach bar called a Skinny Coco. If you like tropical drinks but not the calories from the coconut cream, try this one! It is simple and yummy: coconut vodka + fresh pineapple juice + squeeze of lime + over ice. I get it with extra lime. They don't serve this drink at the Tropics restaurant. Just the beach bar at this writing.

We stayed in the Ali'i tower with a great view of the ocean, beach, and Diamondhead Crater. Onsite restaurants, activities, and stores provided everything we needed for a great vacation. Beach umbrellas and chairs available with the beach pretty much right outside the door. Great Friday night fireworks show. The rooftop Luau and Atlantis submarine excursion are both great activities to take in while staying here. Best thing about the stay was the resort staff. Everybody we came across was extremely polite and went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant stay. With the location and activities, this has to be the best place to stay in Honolulu.

Room Tip: Ali'i Tower has its own private pool which is less crowded than other parts of the resort.

I have to preface this review by stating I am a hiltonhhonors gold member, so do have status, which comes with perks. I booked two rooms for the family, and was greeted by a warm and friendly staff. They upgraded our rooms to full ocean views, which were great. The rooms were recently updated, very clean, the beds very comfortable, and the a/c worked great. We were in the Kalia tower, which has the only gym and spa for the resort, so very convenient for us. Staying in that tower also provides the added benefit of a quick walk to Ala Moana Blvd for local dining and shopping options.

As Hilton gold members, we got access to the Rainbow terrace for complimentary continental breakfast each morning, which saved us a fortune. The gym was very nice, but a little crowded early in the morning.

Like most resorts, lounge chairs at the pools are fully occupied early in the day, so get there super early if you want one.

TRAVELER TIP: lounge chairs at the beach rent for $15 per day, and umbrellas rent for $29 per day (ouch!). Floating toys rent for $10-15 per day. Instead of paying these high prices, we went to WalMart about a mile away and bought pool toys and a couple of umbrellas. Well worth it! We gave away the pool toys at the end of our trip but took the umbrellas home and still came out way ahead. I understand now that the passing of the pool toys is quite a tradition there.

The service everywhere at the resort was excellent, and if you are flying home on an evening flight, the hotel offers hospitality rooms with showers to use after checking out, so you can spend a full day on property even after you're out of your room. You can reserve these rooms 24 hours in advance, which is highly recommended.

All in all, we'd return to this property in a heartbeat.

In March we stayed in the Ali'i Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort. We needed a room for just two nights while we waited for our sons to arrive a few days later. We didn't really care where we stayed for those few days. Before booking, I had a question I could not get answered, and was eventually put in touch with Jacque L. She took care of everything, checked with me before we left, and followed up when we returned. She gave first class service and went well above and beyond, even though we were staying just the two nights. The woman who checked us in was also exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was perfect ... we LOVED it! Great location, beautiful room, and more than we expected. Our only disappointment was that we were only staying the two days. It was the best of all the places we had booked while there, due in large part to Jacque's help and service.

Room Tip: Ali'i Tower was wonderful!

First off this hotel is in a great location. The rooms are nice with plenty to do. There are many restaurants on property in every price range and in every ethnic category, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, American, Mexican, etc. The hotel and pool were very clean and the location is a walk to everything.
Here's what I didn't like: I felt like an ant in an anthill. This hotel is big, real big! There are hordes of people everywhere. Long lines to check in, long lines at the valet, lines, lines, lines and people everywhere and at every hour of the day. There was even a very loud class of Japanese tourists exercising with a microphone and loudspeakers early in the morning 7 or 8 AM. We were on the 7th floor and they woke us up.
Also, the hotel does not have much of an Hawaiian feel. Nor does anything around it. A short walk up the street and you are at Denny's, Coach, Louis Vitton, Gucci. Are we in Hawaii or LA? I couldn't tell.

Room Tip: Spring for an ocean view. Good if you have kids with.
