“Great first visit to Hawaii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We have always wanted to visit and finally had the chance. This place has everything! We stayed for a week and only left the property to take a helicopter tour of the island. We stayed in the Rainbow Tower and enjoyed a wonderful view of the beach and Diamond Head. There is a great variety of entertainment and fireworks every Friday night. Many shops, boutiques, and restaurants to choose from. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

“Love this resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

I stayed here with my husband and son and it was a great experience! There are 5 pools and one area solely for kids which has water slides and fun things for kids of all ages to do. My husband is a Hilton diamond member so we were upgraded to a suite overlooking the ocean. It was simply beautiful to wake up to the sun rise and set over the ocean. The room was extremely clean, there was a lounge area with a sofa and a refrigerator. The resort is its own little town. There are resturants, shops and everything right there on site so if you don't want to leave you don't have to. The staff was very accommodating and we were given complementary breakfast which was nice because its in a separate meeting area for Hilton honors members. The property is right on the beach, there is also a lagoon as well. You can participate in the many water sports made available to you such as surfing, kayaking, Ect. There is a nightly Lu au if you wish to see a Hawaiian tradition without leaving the resort. I will say the Japanese resturant on site has the yummiest dumplings and ramen noodles. It's not the stuff from the package, it's authentic. I have nothing bad to say about this property we were treated like diamond members and hope to return in 2013.

“Enjoyed our stay in the Ali Tower!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We traveled as a couple to celebrate my brother's wedding on Waikiki and stayed 6 nights in December 2012. We had booked a 'resort room' level and received an upgrade to a corner room on the top floor - recently updated and great views. Loved that this tower had it's own lobby- so convenient and checkout was a breeze! We enjoyed the expanse of the property - great beach. So busy that we didn't use the pool. Enjoyed the HHonors continental breakfast - great perk. Ate at the Tropics - OK, little spendy and the host not very accomodating. NOTE - parking ramp was a distance away and spaces TIGHT - so rent a small car if you plan on parking in the ramp. If we returned to Oahu would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ali Tower rooms recently renovated. Choose rooms above the 6th floor for good views.

“Overall a very good resort. Few suggestions though.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

We recently stayed here for 4 nights in the A'li Tower. Overall we were happy with the facilities, the room and the service. My 2 sons had a lovely time in the lagoon and pool area. I wad hapoy with the easy access to the beach towels with the orange tokens. My few suggestions for improvement are:

1) The pool areas should have free umbrellas standing amongst the lounges as the pools are not naturally shaded with trees and many Asians, especially, hate getting a suntan. This would be the reason why I may not return to this resort.
2) Lounges and umbrellas should be free for hotel guests in the lagoon area.
3) The turtle/penguin area had a bad smell. This should be dealt with.
4) There should be help available for luggage at the bus depot area.
5) The food at the buffet at the Luau (?) show was very average and the waiting time to get to the buffet soured the experience for us.

Aloha Sydneyfamily11,

Mahalo for choosing the Hilton Hawaiian Village! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your overall stay with us and appreciate your suggestions for areas of improvement. HHV is a full service resort and we thank you for your patience during times of queue. We apologize for the disturbance and lack of assistance you have experienced during your stay and hope for the opportunity to provide you better service on future visits.

“It's Waikiki!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We've stayed at HHV 3 times since 2009 and are planning a 4th trip next September. We have not stayed at the Rainbow Tower since renovation, but the views of the ocean and Diamond Head more than made up for the need for sprucing up (the rooms in Rainbow are a bit smaller than others). You have to decide on your own whether having an ocean view is important. All of the rooms we've stayed in have been clean, comfortable and well-appointed. (We have not stayed in Diamond Head.) The property itself is clean and neat, the grounds are well-lit and secure, and they run the 'sandboni' every morning over the beach. The restaurants are hit and miss, with Round Table pizza being a hit. We were a bit disappointed with our last visit to the breakfast buffet at the Rainbow Tower. I hope it was just a 'bad buffet' day, because this was a culinary highlight of previous stays, although expensive.

There is a lot of action associated with HHV (and some interesting history). Last visit, we were there during the Pro Bowl and there was always something going on. The down side is when certain facilities close (like the big pool) to host these specials. Hawaii 5-0 was shooting by The Tropics one night. That was fun. The Friday night fireworks are spectacular.

You can book lots of trips and activities through the hotel. I highly recommend Huanama Bay snorkeling - and make sure you are on one of the first vans out in the morning. Less crowded, less murky water. You can depend on tours for sightseeing, but a rental car is nice. Hilton charges $27 a night to self-park, so be sure to budget for that. Don't forget to pay your respects at Pearl Harbor.

I would think any time is Hawaii time, but I prefer late November through February. For one thing, the tides are higher at the North Shore (better for catching the waves with board or camera). If you are into whale watching, you are more likely to see them in the winter months. If you take a whale-watching cruise, book it early enough in your stay that if you do not see any, you can take advantage of a free second cruise.

HHV has lots of high-end shops mixed with outlets like the ABC store, sort of a 7-11 on steroids. There are 2 other ABC stores right outside the property. You are also a few footsteps from the heart of Waikiki where shopping and restaurants abound. The Ala Moana Center is just a few blocks in the other direction. We've bought quite a few Hawaiian garments at Sears. Yes, Sears. Suggested by someone at the hotel. There is a Costco on Oahu, but not near HHV. We also had problems finding a suitable grocery store nearby. Fast food in the area is more expensive than outside Waikiki. On drives around the island, we have grabbed breakfast "on the road" paying the normal stateside prices for a large drink and sausage biscuit.

If you are military or DoD civilian, please consider the luau at the Hale Koa, right next door to HHV. It was fabulous.

If you want to stay on the beach, I don't know of a better place than HHV. In fact, unless you are planning to be a hermit, I think HHV is well worth the visit.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better; The Rainbow Tower seems to have the best water views
