“Great Staff- Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

Queenie was an absolute delight! She is a shining jewel and her smile is like a fragrant Hawaiian lei. Her welcoming manner and care to make us comfortable was accurate precursor to how we were treated for the ten day stay. Although some of the furnishings in the spacious rooms (with plenty of plugs for electronics) are a bit tattered, the staff works to keep the place tidy and maintained--the brass on the entrance steps was polished each day. (By the end of each day the efforts to keep a shine were thwarted.)
Those steps are a bit of a problem managing luggage to the front desk, although the staff is usually available to assist. The valet parking is also a bit of a bother and expense...$25 a day. Nevertheless the attendants are gazelle like in their eagerness to retrieve the vehicle. The shaded pool is more hot tub.
Near Ala Moana shopping, the Hilton and Waikiki; convenient but a bit noisy due to traffic. A nearby restaurant, Snappers, offers a $ 3.99 complete breakfast.

Im a Hawaii Resident and I was scheduled to an early pre-natal check up at the Women and children Hospital near this property, so me and my fiancé decided to go one day before the appointment to relax and to be able to get a little extra sleep that morning. The Equus staff was super friendly and accommodating. They offered us Hawaii resident discounted price, which was very helpful to us, plus they allowed us to have an extended late check out that allowed me to rest a little before our flight back to Maui, which was really needed after my long day at the hospital. It was my fiancé's first time at the Equus and he was very happy with the hotel, the room was super clean, remodeled, and extremely comfortable. We had diner right across the street at Red Lobster, it was yummy! We were so close to A La Moana shopping center that we walked there to shop a little and have lunch. We will definitely stay at the Equus again and I totally recommend it! :-)

Green Features: very environmentally- friendly!! It has a key to turn on the A/C unit which is helpful to not waste.

Six of us, all adults and family members stayed in Equus on April 9th and 10th and again after a cruise we were there one night on April 18th. Qweenie from front desk and all other staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, pleasant and eager to help the customers. The hotel is situated in the center of all, assesslble to restaurants, bus stops and Ala Moana Center. Few minutes walk to the beach. Rooms are clean, quite roomy, nothing to complaint about except you have to climb up to the hotel lobby from street level.

My company has been using the Equus for a few years now and we've seen some decent changes here. Normally I'd complain about valet parking, but with such limited spots it actually makes sense. I suggested to the manager, however, they have some type of sign up if the valet needs to step away for whatever reason - otherwise you may find yourself waiting and getting annoyed.

Staff at this hotel has always been very good - they have some tenure there, so its not just some high school kid working part time. One even recognized me from 3 years ago (and I should disclose one of their staff worked for me 6 years ago and I trained her - the fact she works here part time is only mere coincidence).

The rooms have been redone since the Polo days - very VERY comfortable beds, new countertops in the bathrooms and kitchenette area (coffee maker/fridge), and it appears each room has its own wifi router now. The bathrooms have been redesigned as best as you can for a classic Hawai'i hotel - I can't complain, they make it work... just wish I had a larger shower.

Getting in and out of Equus is quite easy - especially when you come to Honolulu for work and NOT vacation. I somehow made it to our office at the airport in less than 17 minutes one day, and I didn't run anyone over or run red lights! The closeness to the marina & Ala Moana Mall is very appealing.

So if you are coming to Honolulu for business, I strongly recommend the Equus so you don't have to deal with all the tourists on Kalakaua or Kuhio. I've stayed at the Wyland/Courtyard as well and that adds 20 minutes to my commute! The hotel will deliver exactly what it promises, and its remarkably underpriced for the value.

If you are a tourist - easy in and easy out. Its not on the beach, but neither are 80% of the rooms in Waiks. Restaurants are close, and you'll learn a lot about Hawai'i's history on the walls - courtesy of the Bishop Museum. ABC Store & McDonalds is 2 blocks away, Ala Wai canal just a skip away, and short walk to Ala Moana mall and restaurants.

Green Features: Appreciated the conservation efforts at the hotel - from low energy light bulbs, air con that requires a room key, and auto-shut down on the tv...

Nicely furnished room, and theme. Rate was excellent. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. Hotel does not have restaurant or bar, but is very conventionally located. Thursdays and Fridays they had complementary Mia Tia's on the patio. These were made from scratch and by far the best Mia Tia I had during the entire 2 weeks in Hawaii.

Great boutique hotel. My wife and I (33 years and 37 years) loved the Equus. Great location - perfectly placed in Waikiki and close to Ala Moana. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!

The location of The Equus Hotel makes it ideal for experiencing Waikiki city centre. I have stayed here four times during my journeys via Honolulu in the last three months. Surrounded by attractions within reach and easy access to most facilities by walking distance. Directly opposite to Lobster restaurant and The Stakehouse and also two minutes walk to the ABC store where you can get all traveller's needs including packaged meals, toiletries, drinks, gifts and you name it!
The Ala Moana Shopping Centre and Wallmart are just 5 to 10 minutes walk away where you can get most things.
Concerning the hotel herself, the beds are plush, comfortable and the rooms are ambient and quiet. You will surely have a real good night sleep! The staff are great and they are ever ready to help you at the 24 hours desk. You can even warm up your meal in their microwaves in the middle of the night. There is a fridge and television in each room and an ensuite toilet and shower or bath. If you like walking, the pedestrians walkways are great around The Equus and you can walk kilometres too keep fit and healthy on the wide walkways without being affected by the traffics. What more? book your holidays and when next you are in Honolulu, make sure you are staying at the Equus Hotel!
