“It is worth staying”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Staff is very helpful. Even though the lobby is small, it is cozy. The room is clean and modern. The location is perfect! It is close to shopping center and beach! It also offers breakfast voucher if you e stay in duxlue room. Juice will be provided upon arrive and red wine will be offered free in lobby very Monday and thursday. It will be better to buy ocean view room. I will recommend students to stay in this Hotel if your budget is tight! The downside of hotel is lacking of restaurant. If they can offer wifi in room that it will be better!

Jackwang 1988,

Mahalo for staying with us, and taking the time to share your comments. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your time with us, and you were able to take advantage of the guest receptions, breakfast vouchers and great location.

We have recently upgraded our deluxe and executive rooms to include wifi, however Ethernet is still available if needed. We understand that with all the devices and new technologies, plugging in is not always an option. Unfortunately, due to our small size, we do not have space for a restaurant, however we are surrounded by such an amazing selection, there is plenty else to choose from!

We hope that you will return to Hawaii in the future, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Mahalo,

Mariah Dailey

Stayed just one night in a tower room with ocean view. We were put on the 40th floor with a magnificent view. The room was very clean, well furnished and the bed very comfortable. The staff was helpful, in and out parking convenient, and we even received vouchers for breakfast at a nearby restaurant. And all for a very reasonable price. Would definitely stay there again.

EastwestUSA,

Many mahalos for your review. It is great to hear that you enjoyed such a spectacular evening, and were able to appreciate the lovely views from our 40th floor units. As an independent boutique, we strive to make your experience effortless and enjoyable, and are glad we could take part in your Hawai'i experience. Please think of us upon your return to Waikiki!

The two of us booked in at the Equus for nine days with no real expectations. We arrived late around midnight and the first thing to note is a flight of stairs to climb with your luggage before reaching reception. No problem checking in (room 606), all very friendly. At that time of night there appears to be no one to help us with our luggage but for us this was not a problem. Reception is serviced by one lift but during our stay we never have to wait more than a couple of minutes for it to arrive, the healthy option is to take the stairs if you are in a hurry. Access to the room is by electronic key x 2. The room was clean, tidy and pleasant albeit a little tired, however the super king sized bed was very comfortable. The view from the room's balcony was of the city. There are coffee making facilities, a small fridge, good iron, ironing board, hair dryer, safe, alarm clock, good air conditioner, flat screen TV with cable programming and a wired internet connection with a very long ethernet cable to reach most corners of the room. Having access to a safe is very useful but you need to ask for a key at reception where you are warned that if the key is lost you will be charged $50 - fair enough just don't lose it. We used the safe to keep important documents and currency etc. The hotel has a small swimming pool which isn't frequented that much and I think there is access to a floodlit tennis court, also not used that much. Breakfast is provided in the form of a voucher which was requested and obtained from reception each morning - don't forget to ask because this is not automatically offered. The breakfast was provided by a local sports bar called Snappers (one block away) - can get very busy if you have a late breakfast but all good before 9.30am. Food offered was OK, scrambled egg, bacon or sausage, pancakes or potatoes, toast and fruit juice or coffee, good American atmosphere to start the day. Hotel location is superb, five minutes from the amazing Ala Moana shopping mall. Five minutes walk from Hilton Hawaiian Village and beaches. The bus route close to the hotel is a gateway to the rest of the island. We caught buses ("TheBus") to top attractions such as Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, Diamond Head and the North Shore all for US$2.50 per ride. Tip: Go to the local ABC store, just two minutes from the hotel and buy a four day unlimited pass for US$24 (ask the store how this works). This is a great way to meet the locals and exchange stories. The hotel's housekeeping and maintenance staff were always very friendly. Checkout is at noon and the hotel offers a room to lockup your luggage whilst you spend your final few hours in the city before departing for the airport. Reception was exceptionally helpful when our departing shuttle bus ride to the airport was extremely late to arrive - thanks for this. Small niggles encountered during the nine day stay, traffic noise both day and occasionally night. Also, the last night was had a noisy neighbour move in whom made phone calls all through the night and at the top of his voice - very frustrating but not the hotels fault (obviously he was still in a different time zone). I would without hesitation use this hotel again, we felt comfortable and safe there and it was very good value when compared to other hotels.

Room Tip: I suspect good views are available from the Marina Tower and not so much from the hotel.

PHILIP B,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and provide such detail to assist others in making informed decisions. We certainly enjoyed being your host during your time in Hawai'i, and it sounds like you made the most of it. It is a pleasure to hear that you were able to take advantage of our friendly staff, great location and ease of access to the rest of the island.

We apologize for any noise created by your neighbor on your last evening with us, and urge you to let the front desk know if this ever occurs during future stays. Due to our location, we occasionally have some street noise, but do our best to keep this from the rooms with thick walls, soundless A/C systems and incredibly comfy beds in order to aid in your sleep.

We hope that you will join us again in the near future, and look forward to your return!

Many Mahalos,

Mariah Dailey

I usually stay over on the east side of Waikiki but my usual hotels were booked or too much room for a single. I found openings at the Equus on the west side and decided to try it out. The location is convenient to the key things I like - the beaches at the Hilton complex, the ABC store, the Ala Moana mall. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The hotel is right on a chief commuting route, and the buildings in this end of Waikiki create a big echo chamber, so expect traffic noise during rush hours, but one is here not to stay in the room but to go out and enjoy Honolulu. The room was the right size for a solo traveler, well appointed, and clean. I liked that they give out Wall St Jrnl's at the front desk, which for me was a nice touch for a business oriented person. They offer an onsite GreenCarHawaii service, which is basically a pay-as-you-go car at $15/hr or $90+/day (ouch! - enterprise and alamo offices are a block away). Didn't use the car but good to have such an option. Grounds were nicely appointed and neat - good places to sit and take up the breezes. All in all, a great value for a solo traveler like me who wants access, willing to walk around, and be in a safe, accommodating hotel. Would definitely stay here and fit it into my rotation of fine places to stay on Waikiki that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Pleasantly surprised. Well above expectations. You get a clean and spacious room for 110 bucks. It's near the action in Waikiki, but not too close to the epicenter. The staff was thoroughly helpful and competent. Only gripe was that you had to park at a nearby garage for $20 a night. But all-in-all, unbeatable hotel for the price.

Cheesesteak_Al,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay! We are pleased that you enjoyed your time with us, and were able to take advantage of our amazing location. Unfortunately,Waikiki has become one of the largest, most bustling cities in america, and with that we inherit the negatives of expensive and limited parking. We have plenty of reserved parking for our hotel, however when we run into the extremely busy season of summer, as well as conventions in town, we offer alternative parking across the street. We hope that you were not inconvenienced by this, and were able to enjoy your time with us. We hope to see you again soon!

Up on arrival to this hotel, the staff seemed nice and the place was cute. They had a nice bathroom and the ralph lauren inspired room. However, it seemed small and it was just the two of us! There also wasn't alot of towels in the bathroom. The view was not nice at all. They gave us the room when you opened your front door, a big wall was smack right in front of me, which was not a plus. Overall I give this place an "ok".

Tyesha A,

Mahalo for commenting on your visit with us. We appreciate your time, and for choosing to stay with us! We are glad to hear that the bathroom and rooms were decorated to your liking. We have worked hard to keep our renovations up to date. Unfortunately, there is little we can do about the room size. It is difficult to find anything large in Waikiki, unless you book a suite or a one bedroom, especially for the price. We apologize that it made you uncomfortable, but hope that our staff, decor and location were able to make up this minor impediment to your stay. We hope to see you again soon!

Mahalo,'
