My family owns a VI Timeshare and we stayed here for 10 days in May for our honeymoon. We had a choice of the Royal Kuhio or the Fairway Villas, both looked similar but I picked Fairway Villas. You have to go to the Royal Kuhio first to check in and get your keys if you're a VI Timeshare holder or guest. We had a friend drive us so it was fine.
The room has the standard Hawaiian style and furniture. We had a room I think on the 15th floor and a nice view of the canal from our balcony. It's very beautiful.
The kitchen had everything we needed down to a blender which we used quite often for smoothies.
The living room and bedroom had nice new flat screen tvs, only used them once, but nice none the less. The bed in the bedroom was sagging in the middle and killed my back during the stay, so I would recommend they update the mattresses. The living room had a pull down murphy bed.
We rented internet for $10 US a day from the VI service desk. The priciest of all of our internet fees during our stay, but we needed it. You cannot find free internet I guess in Waikiki from your hotel room.
There is AC in the units so that was nice since there were no fans... that was odd for somewhere tropical.
The pool is on the very top floor which is cool to look out over the city, there's also a barbecue area and a tiny hot tub as well. I think the hot tub broke just before we left, so that was a little disappointing because at night the roof can be freezing. There is a sauna in both the mens and women's change rooms which was cool.
I have to say this did not feel like a hotel in that it was pretty quiet and everyone in the building seemed to live there. Not many people used the pool. Everyone was so friendly holding the elevator for us every time we walked into the building. I have never seen that before. Most of the time people see you coming and just let it close.
I would stay here again, we really loved the location and walked all over Waikiki and enjoyed all the site seeing and shopping. The transit is easy to use too and we did not need to use a cab. If you drive the room comes with a free parking stall to use.
