First I must give credit were credit is due. I did a months research on places to stay and this site is what won me over!! I went right after the renovations/construction (Nov. 7-10, 2002) I must say that these reviews helped prepare me for the worst...but it was the absolute most fabulous stay/location for the economical traveler willing to spend no more that $1000-$1150! (that includes airfare (Delta)) It's a bargain, trust me. You're paying for location, but the initial price was a steal for me! Couldn't pass it up. This is the long and short of it. If it's your first time there, you won't be in the hotel much unless it's a special engagement (ie, marriage). But while there, I opted for a $30 upgrade from the crummy backside of the hotel to a partial ocean view on the 14th floor! Yes, it was my first time there and I was out and about all day long. I made extra effort to get back to the hotel for the sunsets. Looking over the balcony, there's the spectacular sounds of 'The Tiki' grill. One night, there was a trio of Hawaiian flame-torch jugglers. Very intense and amazing. Again, construction was completed on the 'deck' (ie, Tiki's, pool area & Check-in) and main hotel tower. But they were still renovating the street level shops. The two best things about the hotel were 1) it's location (on corner of Waikiki, 24hr Denny's right next door, beach across street, aquarium, zoo, and Diamond Head park right next door on the leftside), 2) all of the tour trolley's, airport shuttles and mall charter buses ($1.25 one-way to best mall) stop right at the hotel entrance. I must say that the $500-$800 I spent on the hotel was an investment in memories. Period!
