“Very disappointed in this hotel after staying many times in past”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We got a "kama'aina" rate as we live in Hawaii, and were attending a party near Waikiki. As we live 40 miles away, decided to stay over rather than drive home. While I can accept an "amenity Fee", I was not informed that with a kama'aina rate, if you stay MORE than one night, this fee of $23.00 AND the parking fee of $27.00 is waived. So while we got a good rate on the room of $161.00, the additional fees plus the GE taxes and the TA tax, we paid $235.00. That's a little high for checking in at 6 p.m., checking out at noon. In addition, this is the first bad experience at an Aston hotel. We have stayed often at the Aston Waikiki Beach and the Aston Waikiki Sunset over the past 20 years.

Our room was advertised as "partial ocean view." That's ocean if you can see it over the palm trees. (Request tenth floor and above for good 'partial' view.) Also, was over pool so was noisy, and we also got noise from restaurant with live music till late at night. That can be acceptable if one is getting a deal. What was not acceptable was: 1) hair on bathroom counter, 2) hair in bathroom sink, 3) hair on bathroom floor, 4) dirt specks on bedspread, 5) TV that kept turning off, 6) hairdryer that did not work, 7) little bar stool table with glass top that kept sliding all over the place, 8) no other type of guest chair but bar stools, 9) only one chair on lanai, 10) Keurig coffee maker with NO decaf available, 11) skimpy bedclothes and lousy pillows.

We have stayed often at the Waikiki Beach Hotel and always had excellent rooms and service.

This time the reception clerk, Chris, was outstanding. The man running the valet parking, Wayne, was rude, short, interrupted me, was impatient and just so lacking in Aloha Spirit. The driveway was packed full of cars so I had jumped out to go register us and then back to front to see what to do about our car, which was still in street. I can still hear Wayne's impatient Heavy Sigh as I asked for help. I understood that it was very busy, the the valets were shouting out "aloha" as they busted their buns parking cars. He was even very rude and condescending to a non-English speaking couple.

At checkout I stated my complaints about the room (cleanliness, things not working properly, lack of decaf coffee) and how kama'aina should not have to pay the full amenity fee, or at least have parking fee waived. That's when I found out that staying 2 or more nights will get both those fees waived. (Now I know.) But as far as the other complaints, all I could get was $5.00 off the amenity fee. And the gentleman at checkout was not very gracious about it, nor did he seem too concerned about my cleanliness complaint.

So, as customers of Aston for over 20 years, I have to complain. The room should have been cleaner (it had been too long of a day for us to complain at the time...we just wanted to shower, and go to bed) and all amenities should have worked, and the bedding of a higher quality. This was not Aston's standard that we are used to.

I am glad our hotels are full and our tourist economy doing well. But don't forget the locals. They support hotels here in Hawaii also.

Room Tip: "Free wifi" paid from the amenity fee, which also covers 'available' workout place...

My wife & I did a staycation locally and upon check in we got a room upgrade. The hotel is located steps from the world famous Waikiki beach, and walking distance to a lot of great dining restaurants. Parking is valet only and since everything is in walking distance, we never used our car. There's a ABC store (large shoppette) downstairs and on every block. Starbucks is also around the corner. Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Shell and Kapiolani park are all in walking distance.
The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Let me know if this helped with making your decision.
Aloha...

This was our 7th year staying at this hotel. WOW - what does that say. I don't think you can get a better endorsement than return Kamaaina stays. If you register closer to 3:00 p.m., the registration line is pretty short. The front desk is very helpful and resourceful if your room is not quite ready. They are also very accommodating if once you see your room and you can't stay in that arrangement - i.e. single king bed versus 2 doubles. During the late afternoon / early evening, call about 30 minutes ahead of your time to have the valet retrieve your car. Really nice to have the local newspaper available. Hot water was plentiful. Had difficulty figuring out the air conditioning system. Never quite got the hang of it. Oh well, just put on more clothes and it was fine. Check out was accurate and a breeze. Would definitely stay here again next year.

TLA look no further. Awesome beachfront hotel. I am in the military and relocated our family to HI for a three year assignment. While waiting on our housing to be ready we stayed at this hotel. I am only halfway through my 32 day stay here but wanted to write about this hotel during this busy PCS season to inform everyone how military and family friendly this hotel is.

Up front they offer you free breakfast, free Valet parking, free wifi and $25 per day you stay with them (the put the total balance in a visa check card when you check out). The resort fee and majority of taxes also are waived.

If you are married w a family check your TLA rates and your meal rates. Some folks don't know their total entitlement. The meals rate is a flat standard and you are paid it regardless. Some of their rooms are bigger than others so when you make your reservation keep that in mind. I maxed my TLA option and we are staying in a large suite (big family).

They gave us two free upgrades to a partial ocean view with a lanai which is super cool. My wife and kids love doing spending some morning time out there and settling down at night too.

The beach is 25 feet across the street and this side of Waikiki is a little calmer, so it's perfect for smaller children. The beach has a small wall to allow calmer waters for young kids swimming w/o strong currents.

You can walk a quarter mile down the strip and it picks up so you won't have to walk far at all if that's what you prefer.

There is a nice pool on the main floor (3d floor) with a restaurant (Tiki's) adjacent to it that has beautiful live music played every night. In the mornings Mon-Fri there is a guitar player and Hula dancer who perform during breakfast hours (really nice).

During the weekends you can watch parades from your room lanai, the pool area, from the beach or by the street! Restaurants all close by with plenty of shopping and things to do during the day/night/weekends. When I go to work my wife is able to enjoy the hotel amenities and Waikiki beach.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. Room service comes through daily and the Valet is always on time with the car. You get exempt from some taxes if you're in orders.

I haven't stayed at any other hotel in HI so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I will say it beats staying at the Best Western or Tripler Hotel...just makes sense to stay here the drive is NOT bad. And it is a great hotel, not as great as or Sandals Resort experience but it's the best hotel I've ever stayed at while on a per diem rate!!

Common area decor is dated and touristy. However, the room was very comfortable. The staff was extremely polite and responsive. The Tiki Bar is undergoing renovations but offered decent fare for a hotel restaurant. The beach is 150 feet away. Room offered views of beach and mountains. Breakfast is mostly baked pastries.

We stayed for a week at this hotel. This hotel has a great location, and is across the street from the beach. The area from the beach to the hotel is very clean. Starbucks is at the front of the hotel, and a decent restaurant next to it. The sea view is quite nice. Staff was friendly.

We had a room on the 23 floor. It was a sea view room with king bed and pull out sofa bed with a small washroom. It had a small fridge, and older style Kurge coffee maker. The bed was good, and room was kept clean. A/C worked fine.

The good:
- location - across from beach
- clean for old hotel
- friendly staff
- great view from sea view room - well side view but called sea view.
- safe to lock up passports.

Few things to consider:
- washroom should have been gutted a long time ago
- old sliding doors to balcony
- noise level even on upper 23 floor. Music from bar, and road
- parking $27 per night not included
- amenities fee $23 no included - should be included in a hotel like this. Includes wi-Fi , Kurge coffe maker, safe, breakfast, and movies.
- wi-Fi is useless too slow for anything. Go to Starbucks.
- parking is very hard to find - park at the zoo for half the cost of hotel parking.
- washroom small , and towel had holes in it. Old shower curtain style.

This was a good hotel for the week, but factor in the extra fees and you start to re consider. This hotel would not be here if not for the location. They have worked well in keeping it up to standard considering its age.

Would I stay there again. Yes, as they have tried to do the best with what they have. Still parking should be included along with any other lock and load amenite fees which include item the are standard at most hotels these days.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view with a king bed. Regular rooms are way too small

I booked this hotel via an Expedia sale / offer. I must say that if you are a family or an individual on a budget and looking to go to Hawaii but don't want to cost yourself an arm or a leg this Hotel will definitely do~! There are too many other hotels in Waikiki ripping people off. My favorite part about this hotel is the morning breakfast buffet. Upon arrival you get a complimentary lunch box. Just fill it up with the breakfast goodies and you are good to go all day! I would usually head out to different parts of Oahu thus, these snack and breakfast would come in handy in the car. However, if you are looking more than just a place to sleep perhaps you should look elsewhere. Besides did you come to Hawaii to stay in your room or to explore the island and its beautiful coast?

Safe Travels!
