“Better than a Waikiki Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

This place is great! Rather than choose a hotel I thought I might enjoy a better Waikiki Beach experience staying in Waikiki's only Beach Front condo while working in Honolulu for a few days. What a great find! We will return for some vacation time at Waikiki Shore this fall. It is a older-style facility with access to the rooms from an outside walkway/hallway, much like many other hotels in Waikiki. The location is excellent right next to Fort Derussy Beach Park (no high-rise hotels in sight to spoil the view) so western views are uninterrupted and spectacular during the day and at night! The location is good; bordering the Outrigger Reef hotel on the other side and only two (2) doors down from one of Waikiki's great hotels, the Halekulani Hotel. I waked barefoot down the beach to dinner at Duke's, a drink on the lanai at the Moana Surfrider, and breakfast at the Royal Hawaiian (the Pink Palace!) My Waikiki Shore room was a smallish but comfortable Studio with a comfy King size bed, a small but handy kitchen, and a large bathroom with a large walk-in shower. I presume rooms are furnished and decorated by each condo owner. My room was tastefully decorated and had a warm and beautiful wood floor. The rooms have air conditioning but I opened up the large sliding glass doors and glass jalousies to enjoy the fresh ocean air and the cool breeze. Check in was easy and welcoming at the Castle Resorts front desk in the lobby. Apparently Outrigger rents some of the condos at Waikiki Shore as I noticed some lost guests looking for the Outrigger check-in facility (which I never saw.) The Castle staff was friendly and helpful and housekeeping was thorough and nearly invisible. There is even parking available at Waikiki Shore! Why go to a hotel when you can have all the comforts of a Waikiki hotel, a great location right on Waikiki Beach, beautiful views - and you can enjoy breakfast on your balcony?

Room Tip: All the rooms have great west / northwest views; closer to the beach is always better! The views fro...

We've stayed here twice in the past and this is the 3rd time. Each time we've noticed the place getting progressively worse! The first two times we booked through Outrigger which gives one pool privileges next door at the Outrigger hotel. The last time we were here (2 years ago) we were not happy with the location of the room and were told by the gentleman at the front desk that booking through Castle resorts was "better" because they have a larger number of condos available. Boy, was that a mistake! He neglected to mention the lack of pool privileges or the fact that the "premium" rooms are really not "premium" by our definition! As stated by other reviewers the furnishings are old (70's era) including faded and chipped lampshades and VERY uncomfortable beds. In fact, we booked a double bedded room and their idea of a double bed is two twins pushed together! My wife and I are well traveled and have never had back problems but both of us are waking up with sore backs in the morning! When we arrived we told the desk person we weren't happy with the room and was given another room to look at. It was no better than the first and has 2 twin beds. When we told him we wanted a double bed he said "no problem" (again, apparently the "new" definition of a double bed is 2 twins pushed together)!

To be fair, the view from the room is gorgeous and the room is large with a nice kitchen. BTW, only one small box of laundry detergent is supplied upon check-in and not replaced (additional boxes are $1 each) and dishwasher detergent isn't even supplied!

So if you're looking for a great location and a large room with kitchen stay here! But if you want comfort book elsewhere!

My wife and I stayed at the Waikiki Shore this past April and were thrilled with the accommodations. The first thing you must realize when picking a home-away-from-home in Waikiki is that most of the hotel rooms face other hotel rooms and that only a fraction of the available rooms actually face the water and let alone face the ocean un-obstructed. The Waikiki Shore is the last hotel you see in the panoramic photos of Waikiki. To the west is the fashionable Ala Moada separated from Waikiki by the Fort Derussy Military Park; to the east at the very end is Diamondhead and everything in between is Waikiki. The 'Shore' looks out onto the beach, the park, clear views of the ocean and picturesque views of the city with the mountains in the background. A winner with a view!

We booked 10 nights on the 5th floor (just above all of the palm trees in the park) and could not have been happier. The room was very spacious, with a king sized bed, large common area, flatscreen TV, kitchen, dressing room, bathroom, and washer/drier. The space was twice the size of a standard hotel room and they also have free wifi. Then that's not mentioning the view from our lanai which faced toward Ala Moana and the Hilton (which every Friday night has fireworks. People line up on the beach to watch them...that is unless you have a room at the Waikiki Shore (: ). The Sunsets from the lanai are spectacular too. The building is only one unit wide so when you exit the room you are facing Diamondhead and at some floors have a view of the this side of the bay as well.

Security is very good here as you are given a key fob to gain access to the elevators and living quarters. Getting delivery is good as long as you let security know that some one will be arriving to deliver food. There doesn't appear to be a lot of crime, in fact you will see more ambulance and fire trucks than you will police cars (how they have a whole show on Honolulu crime beats me!) There are some people who own their own condos so the entire building is not all tourists. The 'Shore' takes this very seriously. Don't let that scare you away, keep your trash bags inside for the cleaning crew to pick up, don't hang your towels off of the lanai and everyone will get along.

Underneath the Waikiki Shore (from the beach side) are several little snack shacks, a Subway, and souvenir shop. Take a moment to stop at the Steak Shack and get the original combo. For $6.95 you'll be glad you did.

Next door is the Outrigger which has a little general store, a Starbucks and if you venture in, many stores along with the Shore Bird (an excellent place to have drinks; Mai Tai's are quite good here and the lamb burger is tasty too!). Many activities will come and pick you up from the Outriggter. Across the street is the Trump Hotel, and down Beach Walk there is an ABC store (you can buy milk, beer, wine, snorkel gear, food, you name it). There is a bigger ABC store a block past Beach Walk across the street from Roy's on Lewer's St (they have a deli, fresh pastas, a much more diverse selection.)

Parking is hard to come by in Waikiki, the 'Shore' has some narrow spaces for $25 a day. Having a vehicle is a must so that you can visit the North Shore, so it was nice to have a place to leave our vehicle.

The staff was great!

We will definitely look into the Waikiki Shore for our return trip!

Room Tip: Rooms from the 5th floor and up have a great view over the canopy of the Fort Derrusy Park

Thank you for your endorsement of the Castle Waikiki Shore. Most of our units have unobstructed views of the ocean and the park. All units have a full kitchen, washer/dryer, wireless routers, etc. We are a condominium hotel and are much larger than any normal hotel room. we appreciate you taking the time to comment on your stay with us.

My daughter & I stayed here in a studio on level 14 with an ocean view. The view is certainly fantastic both day & night. We booked through The Outrigger so we could use the pool at the Outrigger Reef next door. We had an issue on check in, as we had requested a twin room but were shown a room with a queen bed. As there were no twins available & we are both light sleepers, we ended up at the Outrigger Regency On The Boardwalk for our first two nights down the road in a twin. The Outrigger Regency staff were very accommodating. We finally stayed here from 3 nights and found the access to the beach great, just walk straight through the gate with our swipe. The only issue we had with our room was the blinds, which didn't shut properly on one side of the sliding door. We asked someone from The Outrigger to fix it on two occasions, but no one ever came. Not great when you have to resort to wearing an eye shade to sleep. The blinds actually need to be replaced as they appeared old & worn. We found the location convenient to buses, restaurants & all the shops nearby. This is a great place but definitely needs some maintenance on the blinds in the room we stayed in.

Just had 6 nights in 1510 booked via Outrigger. We rang on our way from the airport and were met by a very helpful Outrigger staff member. He explained how everything worked - use of pool next door, who to call if need help, etc, etc.

The view was amazing - ocean, Fort DeRussy Park and the city - and we were away from the beach side (which everyone says gives an even better view).

The unit was spotlessly clean. However the decor is dated (and it would be nicer to have the carpet replaced with something easier to clean).

The unit is very well equipped. We used the kitchen for breakfast and snacks and there were enough plates, cups, cutlery, etc to just run the dishwasher every 2-3 days. Better than lots of holiday places where one breakfast for 5 uses everything up. There was a washing machine and dryer - with detergent for a couple of washes on check in and then 3 days later. All this made a family holiday easy.

There are old vertical blinds that need replacing. One fell off each time we opened or closed them. We just clipped them back in but they are really ready for replacing.

We had 2 sleeping areas. One each side of the living area. They aren't separate bedrooms as one had sliding mirrored panels and the other a concertina style divider but it was no problem. The Outrigger gave us a roll away which fitted in the area with the 2 single beds. All the beds were very comfortable.

The Bus goes just in front of Fort DeRussy Park to lots of places. The bus to Ala Moana Center is very regular. You cross the road to get a bus to Ala Moana and then it stops on your side coming back.

We didn't use the Front Desk staff for advice, help, etc as we weren't Castle guests but they were very pleasant.

Walking onto the beach from a gate at the front was excellent. No roads to cross with 3 kids.

Having access to the pool next door was a bonus. The staff in there even had the kids participating in one of their cultural activities after using the pool.

All good for a family holiday.

We found the room exactly as described (Premier Ocean Front). It was rm 505. We had a nice view of the beach and ocean and could also see the park next door. It was very quiet. We stayed a week and the room was always kept clean. The housekeeping service left us extra towels when requested. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. When we checked in, the fellow said we were too early, but allowed us to put our luggage in their office so we could stroll around. He was very busy, but was polite and helpful all the same. All of the staff we interacted with said good morning and were friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The only thing negative I can say is the beds were two twin beds, a little small, but they were comfortable enough for the two of us. It was nice to have the washer and dryer and kitchen. The air conditioner worked perfect as did the TV. We did not use the WiFi. We had breakfast on the Lanai most mornings and watched the ocean and the people. It was very relaxing. The room itself is quite spacious with large mirrors on the wall so you can see the ocean from the bed area.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best views.

This hotel is great value, especially with its location (literally right on the beach) and the ocean views. Pay for an ocean view room - it's worth every penny. Our room was a bit dated, but still outstanding for the price - the rooms have a well-equipped kitchenette, a washer and dryer, windows that open and a balcony. With an ocean view, you can sip coffee every morning and gaze into the sunrise. When you want to go to the beach, you step out of your room, down the elevator and walk 50 feet to the back door, and you're there. The beach is located at a quieter part of Waikiki, with calm waters and less people. It's a short walk to the centre of Waikiki, but close to Beachwalk, the western part of Waikiki Beach and a 10 minute walk to the marina and 20 minutes to the Ala Moana Center mall. We also had a great experience with all of the front desk staff that we dealt with - especially Isaac. After we checked in, our phone and Internet connections weren't functioning, and both were fixed within 15 minutes. There is no restaurant in the hotel (though there are beach concession stands attached to the hotel) but we used the breakfast buffet at the Shore Bird Restaurant at the Outrigger Reef Hotel next door. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for good value in Waikiki.

Room Tip: Look for a higher floor and pay for the ocean view.
