“Great place to meet fellow travellers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Where to begin!
I stayed at this place on my first solo travel ever and it was the best place to take my solo travel virginity! I stayed in an all girls room with 4 beds and a kitchenette. In my room were two australian girls and a girl from germany. I ended up becoming great friends with them and we exchanged many ideas for places to visit. Downstairs they have a chef come in every night to cook a wonderful homemade meal for cheap!Down there, there is a great place to meet fellow travellers and talk about highlights in town. The front desk guys were wonderful, and I can say, made my stay even more enjoyable! the location is great, so close to the beach and right off the main strip!

Next door is a scooter rental place with amazing rates and they even give you a hostelling rate. I highly suggest this place to any family and friends wanted to stay in honolulu. why pay an arm and a leg when you can stay at a place with lots of other interesting travellers from all over and make some lifetime friends!

Got to say, this place is the start of a very ambitious travel bug! Definitely a must to stay!

We checked out within the first 24hours. The website doesn't paint a true picture of the rooms and what ur actually booking. We booked a semi private room not realizing that we had to walk through strangers mess to get to/from our room, the bathroom and kitchenette. The room wasn't clean when we checked in and I don't think the bathroom had been cleaned in weeks. It was disgusting. They gave me ripped sheets and had no towels left for us to purchase (they had been out of stock for weeks apparently) so we had to use our sandy beach towels to try ourselves off after our shower. We ended up finding a much much much better budget hotel for a similar if not cheaper price, better location, and all the perks of a hotel - ie clean rooms, maid, pool, towels, sheets, big rooms, hanging space, friendly staff etc etc. If you want to have a good time in Hawaii, do yourself a favour a stay in a hotel not this backpackers!

Location is brilliant and staff helpful. Stayed in 8 bed female dorm 2hich was great. Females from across the world together having fun. Room was fine, cleaned every day and could change sheets whenever rewuired. Good free wifi.
Could get noisy in the evening but usually calmed down byb11pm...when the kids hit the town!?
Travelled alone and over 60....this was the safest place place I have stayed in.
Recommend to all as a cheap option for enjoying an expensive resort.

The biggest draw of this hostel is the location. It is approximately 1 minute away from the most beautiful beach I've ever been to. It is also no more than 30 seconds away from numerous convenience stores, and restaurants, and about one minute away from the Honolulu zoo.

I stayed in the small co-ed dorm (8 beds), which was comfortable enough. The room had a large bathroom with a great shower, and toilet. It also had a full size fridge, and full kitchen. It also had a full balcony on the back. The hostel also had free wi-fi, which wasn't that great in the rooms themselves but great in the lounge area.

The bunk beds we're standard for a hostel, and nothing spectacular.

Overall I'd recommend the hostel.

Very nice hostel!
We went also at the waikiki backpackers hostel and the beachside hostel was far better!
The employees were friendly and very useful!
We were in a 8-bedrooms dorm, it was clean and comfy. There are lockers in the room!
The ac didn't work well and it was noisy but we opened the doors and it was ok.
Great location! Wifi in the room.
It was cheaper than waikiki backpackers hostel, worth the price!
Great experience overall!

I booked last minute and new girl (Maggie!) was very efficient, even though it was her first day!

From airport it's a $12 shuttle and takes 20-30 mins. On arrival I had an enthusiastic, friendly and helpful check-in. Outside looks ghetto and the hostels next door (between this place and the Polynesian) have some dodgy looking residents, but it's a well lit, location and very safe at all times of day and night (even for a 250lb/113kg Englishman!) Shared a room on 2nd floor with Tony from Santa Cruz and there was a private room off of this. Fans in the room and relaxing atmosphere. Free WifI and even though downstairs is effectively a car park there was a great atmosphere from the young, travelling cats who were all very friendly. Last time I stayed here was at the youth hostel down the road, which was rubbish with a geezer who had some sort of superiority complex, early curfew and you had to vacate during daytime!

Only complaint is the snotty nose twit on reception who wouldn't let me store my bag for the day (Monday 24th June) but I wasn't staying there! The Polynesian provided this service for $5 and were very helpful.

A hui hou

staying a month here was a good choice. Staff is OK, cleanliness not so good. Tho, is close to the beach is located in the "guetto" of waikiki so be kinda careful around there. you get to meet people from all over the word and can hangout in the bar are as long as you want.
