Owner description: Hawaii Food Tours™ was created by Hawaii's #1 Food Writer and Restaurant Reviewer, Chef Matthew Gray. It's for those who love food & fun. Voted Best Tours on Oahu for the past two years in a row! Two different daily tours; one takes place in & around Honolulu... the other goes to the North Shore. We will feed, educate and entertain you all day long! MSNBC Network called us one of the best food experiences in the world! These fantastic tours feature Yummy Food, Fascinating History, and Culinary Decadence! Our Famous Hole-in-the-Wall Tour™ includes a behind-the-scenes walking and tasting tour in Honolulu's amazingly colorful Chinatown! It's an entertaining, informative and FUN Honolulu City Tour with several stops, including 2 of Hawaii's most famous Bakeries & one of a kind Marketplaces. You'll be eating between 15 & 20 different foods! This tour takes place all over Honolulu, away from the touristy areas of Waikiki, where only the real locals go to eat. Our North Shore Food Tour™ gives guests a tasty glimpse of the colorful and rural "countryside" area of our island of Oahu. Many people read about the North Shore, about the beautiful huge waves, the garlic shrimp trucks, and rustic away-from-the-city areas, and that's what we give our guests, including some genuine Hawaiian food, a garlic shrimp plate, various pastries, Hawaiian Beer, and a visit to a coffee and sugar plantation.

Phenomenal! We thought this tour sounded too good to be true, but it really is all that it is said to be. Matthew and Keira are so warm and hospitable. We were a little nervous about what the dynamic amongst strangers for six hours would be, but not to worry. They make it so comfortable that you are actually friends with the people on the tour by the end. The food that you sample is amazing. We have to say that we went back to several of the places on the tour because it was so delicious. This is exactly what we were looking for. You get a true taste of the Hawaiian culture, food and people. Just hanging out with sweet people like Matthew and Keira shows you how different the people of Oahu are... they are so friendly! The list they give you of restaurants to visit in the area on your own is also wonderful. Trust them, they know what they are talking about. All we can say is this is money well spent. Matthew and Keira we wish you great success in your new food tour endeavors, you deserve it.

Mahalo for the best day of our trip,
Jon and Michelle

“I'm CooCoo for Cocoa Puffs, Liliha style, that is.”

My husband and I signed up for the Hole-In-The-Wall tour after reading the positive reviews on this site and we are GLAD we did. Here's some inside information for those of you who are planning on taking this tour. 1) If Matt asks you to guess the number he's thinking... it's 55, 2) Matt and Keira are in love and are getting married in November, and 3) Don't leave your Cocoa Puffs in the van.

Mahalo, Matt & Keira!

“Hole in the Wall Food Tour. It's a Must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2009

Not only for the sheer pleasure of spending the day with Matthew and Keira, which was indeed a treat, the food tour was a fantastic way to get to know Honolulu in a personal way.
As Matthew points out, "understanding the food of a culture helps you connect with the culture". WARNING: This is NOT like the over-organized, over-priced tours you may have taken . To begin with, the tour is a phenomenal bargain, really. We spent 5 hours in a highly conversational, yet informational environment both onsite, and enroute to some of the best eateries on the island. The trip is extremely well planned, yet Matthew and Keira give you a sense of adventure as their own excitement and wonder about the amazing food craft of Oahu unfolds. We tasted what we toured, From the fresh handmade soft noodles at the village noodle factory, to the crack seed section at a quaint store in Chinatown, to the famous Co-Co Puffs baked exclusively at Liliha's Bakery, and much, much more.
Aside from the amazing food, the intriguing stories and the interesting questions, you will get an insiders look at the real Honolulu, the one you'll want to call home.
Thanks again Matthew and Keira, and congratulations on your engagement.

“Great start to Hawaii travel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2009

Matthew Gray's "Hole in the Wall" food tour was our first organized excursion on Oahu and was the highlight of our trip. The hospitality of Matthew and Keira was exceeded only by the quality of the food sampled and true insight into the "real" Hawaii that most travelers never see.
Very highly recommend!

“Great Day Outing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2009

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Hawaii, the high point of which was this phenomenal Hole in the Wall Food Tour. Matt and Keira were the perfect hosts, providing the ideal balance between food, cultural knowldege, and fun! All of the stops were terrific and we enjoyed every morsel we ate (don't eat breakfast and you won't need dinner!). A fantastic excursion and we would do it again next time!
