“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We have just returned from a week staying at the Wyndham and found it a great place to stay for families or a group of friends. The location is fantastic, short walk from everything, shops, restaurants, beach and trolley stop for a must do ride to the Ala Moana shopping centre . Unit is very spacious and clean and accommodated our family of 4 adults easily. Although the view from our room was of the carpark next door we were never long in our room to have it bother us. The staff at the Wyndham were very helpful and our room was ready for us upon arrival early in the morning. We will definitely be staying at the Wyndham again.

The location has its pluses and minuses. Upside, it is a short walk from Waikiki beach and is close to some good bars and restaurants. Downside, it's in a canyon of high buildings that block the view and the sun, as well as generating noise - lots of it at times. We had no problem with our room which was spacious and comfortable. With ear plugs in, night noise didn't cause any problems. However, sitting in the room during daylight hours could be a little noisy. Even worse though was the swimming pool. The surrounding higher rise buildings block out the sun for large periods of time and you have to move around the pool to catch the sun which disappeared for good around 14.00 when we were here. Sun aside, the noise from garbage trucks and other vehicles in the roadway alongside the pool was intrusive. All of that said, we had a great stay here. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and we had ready access to all of the places that we planned to visit. My guess is that, unless you go for a beach front hotel, this place is as good as some and better than many. We didn't make a great deal of use of the kitchen but there was a reasonable stock of equipment in it, although no kettle. One thing we noticed was that the elevators were a bit creaky and slow. The worst one was from the parking level to the lobby. We waited for almost 10 minutes, with our cases, for an elevator to arrive. Folk with us said that one of the elevators had been out for all of their stay. We took to the escalator with our cases and struggled - notices did say not to but we had waited and waited for an elevator. Back to the pluses - we were comfortable and happy here and had a great stay in Waikiki.

Presidential suite 1206 was roomy but the noise in the master suite was unbearable. Request a different room at check in or you will not get any sleep and end up on the pull out couch. Made a complaint but they were not able to move us. Don't got to the time share meeting. Not worth the breakfast buffet and $100. It was supposed to be 90 minutes was still there 120 minutes later.

Room Tip: Not 1206. Noisy a/c. Noisy elevator.

We stayed here for four nights in September. We stayed in apartment 501 it was very spacious and well equipped but had a great view of the car park opposite and it was extremely noisy at night. The location is pretty good but the building is right in the middle of a whole lot of other tall buildings and it is very busy around there, on the Saturday night we went out after an early dinner and there was at least a 45 minute wait everywhere just to have a drink (we had kids with us which did limit our options a bit). It was great to have the kitchen and washing machine but I really missed having a view. The pool was OK, except for the kids pool which was literally a blow up pool, glad ours were past that. For the price we paid it was good value but I wouldn't stay there again.

I have just returned from a 10 day stay in a 2 bedroom apartment with my wife and brother with his wife.

The apartment has everything you need for a stay in Waikiki. Even though the apartmen has a fully equiped kitchen with stove, huge microwave & a massive fridge to keep 20 days worth of stuff in we only eat in 3 nights.

Even with the ample fascilities available in the apartment we found it hard to have meals in there only because every thing including Bars & Restruants are right at your front door. It was good though on the odd night to eat in doors but even doing that we still had a great veiw from our balcony over looking Lewers Street which has an abundance of shops and eateries.

The resort is in the heart of Waikiki and only a short stroll to the beach and even shorter to catch public transport which can get you to any where you need to go.

Staff were exceptional and the service from day 1 to the end you could not fault. There is simply nothing about staying at this place you could fault. It is in the best location with the best rooms and everything at your door step. We have stayed in a couple of other hotels in Waikiki before but after this experience we would be mad to go anywhere else.

Nice units in trendy location near a lot of new.upacale eateries and shops. Never got linens refreshed during week long stay but otherwise pretty good stay.

Valet men were the friendliest and most impressive staff on site.

Rooms had what you needed and good space. The dryers took a long time to dry clothes. Overall good stay.

We just retuned in August from our fifth visit to Waikiki Beach Walk. The resort is located within walking distance of the best Waikiki Beach has to offer. Waikiki Beach is about a 1.5 block walk. We had a two bed-room unit on the third floor, not high enough to have a view of the water. (I must point out that we have stayed on upper floors in past visits and the water view is not much of one....but it does feel good to see a little water in the distance.) We were street side and overlooked the shops and restaurants in the Beach Walk complex. It was actually nice in that we were at palm tree level and could hear a nice rustling of the tradewinds through the palm fronds. .

Each of the two bedrooms and the living room have a balcony. The balconies each have a small table and two chairs, with no room for anything else. In fact, the chairs face each other so that you have a little more knee room. The master bedroom has a king size bed and an en suite bath. The second bedroom has two queen beds with the bath across the hall from the bedroom.

The resort is clean and well maintained. The kitchen has everything you will need for meal preparation. Wyndham provides a mid-week trash removal and supply replenishment. The pool is relatively small, so when it is full of kids it is difficult to have a relaxing dip. But if you are kid adverse, you can keep an eye on the pool to determine a time when the kids are at the beach.

The resort sponsors many activities, some are free and some incur a charge. The most enjoyable (and free) activity is the Hawaiian music, some hula, and a sampling of Hawaiian food.

Parking is expensive at the Wyndham, but it is expensive everywhere in Waikiki. The good news is you really don’t need a car to do things in Waikiki. If you are relatively mobile, you can walk everywhere. But if you want to get out and explore the North Shore, Pearl Harbor, or Hanauma Bay you will need to rent a car, hire a taxi, or find an organized tour. There is a Dollar Rental Car lot about two blocks from the Beach Walk. I would recommend going there and renting a car for the day, then return the car at the end of the day and avoid parking fees.

Wyndham will hound you to do a timeshare presentation/update. They start off being rather persistent (but polite) in their approach, but if you tell them definitively (and politely) "no" they will stop asking.

In summary, the Wyndham is in a great location, is well kept, and provides a great base for exploring “paradise.”
