“Not worth it even when using TLA!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

Despite being close to the px/commissary/whatever, the prices on post are just as high as anywhere on the island if not higher. As an example, I needed to replace my ps3 shortly after arriving to schofield and the px had one system for $399. Even though you don't pay taxes in the px, it was still cheaper to buy the system from a local gamestop. Why do you need to be near something more expensive? Food?! You can actually find better deals if you are willing to make the drive. I only shopped once at the commissary and that was when I first got here. I have been shopping everywhere else since. The only thing convenient about the inn is being directly on schofield so you don't have to deal with incoming/outgoing traffic for PT/Morning/Lunch/After work times. The location is terrible; it is located right on the corner of a traffic intersection and because there are so many people who have engine exhaust louder than a jet engine it reverberates through the inn and it is amplified when you are in the room. It is even worse when people drive by and have their bass systems up, the walls literally vibrate. For the price they charge for the rooms you would think the internet speed would at least be decent enough to compensate for the dull channel lineup they have on their tv...nope. The internet speed is so slow and bogged down you will literally be happy just to get anything above 500Kb down speed (which is the average even during the day). With todays websites being highly media capable, 500Kb down speed is not even enough to load the page without falling asleep. It's not even enough speed to watch your own netflix account and even that is a crapshoot as all internet traffic is monitored by trolls. My cellphone got better data speeds than this crap service they call internet here. They don't want you to enjoy your time here but they want to charge you a ridiculous amount for it. Do yourselves a favor, have the service member come ahead of time to secure housing so you don't have to deal with this bs inn. If you are intent on bringing your family out while you in process and wait for housing you might as well get started on securing temporary lodging any where but here. You won't regret not staying here.

Room Tip: Don't bother with this place. TLA or not, it's not worth it!

First the good, location, if you are assigned to Schofield Barracks obviously it's a great place to stay while awaiting quarters. It's within easy walking distance to the PX, Commissary, Military Clothing Sales, ACS, Legal, and Division HQ. The cleaning crew are great. They were nice and addressed room problems ... when you brought them to their attention. The bad, MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT TAKING YOUR MONEY - LOTS OF IT!!!! It is very overpriced for what you get ... but then again no one in the installation staff cares. It rains almost everyday and while there are no smoking signs posted everywhere, the smokers smoke right outside your door which ends up as a fog in your room. A call to the managers office, many times, with promises to get rid of the smokers, was just lip service. No one ever came to get rid of the smokers. The entire complex is designated a quiet zone because of people working 24/7 but every single day cars came through with their stereo's blasting. Again many calls to the manager led to nothing. The kitchenette is there in name only. There is a microwave, very small fridge, and coffee maker. The "free" wireless is pathetic and monitored by Jerry Falwell and his ilk. When you can get connected, you will be told things like Hooters Restaraunt site is porno, the MSN Sports page with college cheerleaders is porno, well crap, everything was almost off limits. I sent a note to installation management about their gatekeeper security scan for "porno" sites and all I got was, "we are doing our best". In other words we don't care, you are there temporarily. Go somewhere else if at possible ... which isn't always the case for us military.

Room Tip: Rooms at other hotels have to be much, much better than this with a management staff that really car...

The Inn at Schofield Barracks is extremely overpriced because the military pays for the majority of the Soldiers' lodgings. Most Soldiers stay here when they do a permanent change of station (PCS) or on temporary duty. I would venture to say that 90% of the guests fall into those 2 categories. With that being the case, the military will reimburse 100% of the Soldiers' room costs. With that being said, the Inn at Schofield Barracks will charge a ridiculous rate for a 2-3 star hotel.

For roughly the same cost, you can stay at almost any hotel down in Waikiki. However, you do lose the convenience of being close to everything on the base. So with convenience, you lose out on a lot of amenities that typically associated with a hotel that charges $105-150 a night.

I had to stay here for roughly 2 weeks when I had to PCS from the east coast.

Pros:

Close to everything on base. You can walk to the PX, Commissary, Inprocessing, CIF
Large room with mini fridge, microwave and flat panel TV.

Cons:
Internet is SUPER slow. At times, it's slower than dial up. Forget YouTube or anything streaming. It will just keep trying to buffer. Did I mention it's SUPER slow?

AC/Heating unit is very loud

Everything is relatively old

Housekeeping will knock on your door everyday regardless if you have a Do Not Disturb sign up or not. It's the safety policy. They need to make sure you're alive.

Room Tip: Get a statement of non availability. You'll automatically get one if you have a pet. They do not...

This hotel is terribly overpriced. Extremely noisy. Air handling system made husband sick with strep throat. Cleaning services are good but they have no prblem bothering you early in the morning. Kitchenette only has microwave. No utensils of any sort. At almost $150 per night I was expecting much more!!!! The shopette has the highest prices anywhere on the island. Many soldiers use the hotel to party, drink and make noise at all hours of the night. Definitely not family friendly. Only stayed there because husband was on PCS orders and we get reimbursed for our stay. Too bad they had occupancy could have stayed elswhere if they had no occupancy. So very glad we are PCS out of here and never have to deal with this place again.

Amenities are about equivalent to a Motel-6 or Super8. AC is very weak. Coin-op washers and dryers are the cheapest kind. The parking lot is badly potholed. Housecleaning likes to knock at 8:30 am. Their lobby convenience store has the highest prices on post for any item. Their wireless internet has some very strict blockers that actually blocked me from content on You-tube and CNN.

Location is central to post: No car required if you are inprocessing Schofield from here, which is the main advantage to staying here. If you'd like a nicer place for a lower price, I suggest the Navy Lodge on Ford Island, or the Hale Koa in Waikiki.

To get to either of those on TLA status, just call every day and ask them for availability. When they are full, go and get the memo "non-availability of quarters" from them, so you can stay elsewhere while you are on TLA.

Room Tip: Get a memo for Non-Availability of Quarters!

I stayed on the first floor in a big, quiet, spacious room. The bedding was plush and comfortable. The flat screen TV was nice and the wireless internet was fast and free. Good water pressure, and plenty of hot water. Staff is efficient and very friendly. I regretted having to leave.
