This was an awesome adventure. I was concerned about getting motion sick, but it wasn't bad at all. You take a boat out to the submarine where you board. The sub was no problem with my motion sickness. However, I suggest riding on the top deck on the boat to and from the submarine if you get motion sickness. The submarine ride was awesome and more room in there then I thought. Wonderful trip I would definitely recommend this adventure.

“Avoid the submarine attraction on Waikiki, Oahu!!!! It is a rip off with very little sea life.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Before spending $119.00 to $109.00, on line price, per adult and $53.00 to $45.00, on line price, per child under age 13, please read the following:

We were fooled by the advertising pictures and the video of this attraction. The images of a vibrant ocean brimming with sea life are from other Hawaiian islands, NOT Oahu. Do NOT believe the Waikiki video hype on the website.

We jumped at the chance to, “create a lifetime of memories “, by riding on this “fascinating submarine”, as the ad stated. Instead, when the sub finally arrived on the seabed, the limestone bottom was devoid of vegetation and looked like a giant, abandoned, flooded concrete parking lot. On each side of the sub there were approximately one sunken airplane and three sunken ships making the environment look like a junkyard or pick-a-part with barnacles.

With very little eco system left, the food chain was broken, so NO green turtles, definitely NO large predators, (NO sharks), NO stingrays, NO dolphins, NO natural reefs and NO eels. We did see in the distance, about 25 to 50 feet away, some small tropical fish: yellow tangs, damsels and Moorish idols. At this point, I felt we would have had a better time at an aquarium.

The submarine portholes are large, while the seats tend to be small. Each window is situated between two seats making the passengers lean into one another. This is both physically and socially awkward and uncomfortable, particularly with complete strangers.

As for pictures, colors at the depth of over 100 feet in the sea tend to fade out due to lack of sunlight. Reds will be perceived as black in deep underwater photos. The window panes are extremely thick and as a consequence will cause some distortion in photos. The water was incredibly clear, I only wish there was more to see.

We left poorer and disappointed. Don’t let this happen to you.

I have gone on the Atlantis submarine ride in the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. The Honolulu trip is a let-down after those experiences.

Although the submarine is very comfortable and the windows are HUGE, there is simply not much to see in the waters near Honolulu. The company has intentionally sunk an airplane, a boat and some pipes in an attempt to attract fish, but with only moderate success. All in all, it was a let down and not worth the expense.

The boat (to and from the submarine) was prompt and the crew were very helpful and friendly.

“atlantis sub ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The boat ride out went well. The sub is bigger than we thought. Colour lost due to lack of natural light. My red tshirt went purple. Commentators knowledgable and all friendly. They even had sea sick tablets on board going cheap. The sub ride for our family was enjoyable and we will be recommending to all to do it and forget the price. around 45 min on board the sub from dive to end. On a set course and dive to around 120 feet. The privelage of a real submarine ride in a man made reef to reestablish life is worth every cent and time taken.
