“Hotel close to beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This hotel is fine. Clean with good facilities. The beds were comfy and very large. Rooms also large and well appointed. We liked it. Only draw back lacks its own bar, although there is one in a sushi /cocktail bar in the foyer. Good breakfasts in the hotel lobby although not cheap. In fact we found food was on the expensive side in Hawaii. The hotel has a pool but it is in shadow for most of the day at least when we were there October. The hotel shop is good value. Lifts are fast and clean. I would recommend this hotel only 2 minutes from the famous beach.
The car park under the hotel is readily accessed and easy to use, down there you will find a launderette which is good value. Get a good map of Hawaii, it is quite confusing. The north east and north have the best beaches, in our opinion. Waikiki is overrated and too busy. Hotel staff v friendly and helpful. Macdonalds close by, if only they would sell an acceptable breakfast for the UK pallette.

Room Tip: Three couples all had good rooms. Sorry I cannot help further

The Hotel has a good location. DO NOT try and check in Early. They always take care of the Airline Employes that stay there ( And there are a lot of them ) first. I di not think the frint desk staff was as helpful as they could have been in geting me into m room. I had to wait in the lobby for 4 hours.

This hotel was average but considering how close it was to everything in Waikiki it's a pretty good deal. The rooms weren't as clean or updated as I'd like but they were acceptable. The city noise got kinda loud at times. It's a budget hotel that's worth trying. The breakfast buffet wasn't anything special but it was there for a quick bite before heading out. The parking is limited so if you have a car it's first come first serve but we didn't have any problems.

The hotel offered location, service, amenities, views (we had ocean view Junior Suite) for a very reasonable price. Very happy to have chosen this hotel. Did not try the hotel breakfast as numerous coffee shops, cafes and bakers located nearby. The staff is very welcoming and helpful.

This was my first stay at Waikiki resort hotel. The rates were fair and the rooms were clean, yet nothing fancy. The beds were comfortable, and I was able to get a good nights sleep. The Jr suite is the way to go as you get a mini fridge, microwave and bar sink with utensils, plates, bowls, coffee cups etc. the only drawback to the location is Koa Ave is the major tour bus stop and buses are coming and going very early in the am if you chose to sleep with the balcony door open, it gets loud quickly! Overall the hotel was a great base camp for my visit to beautiful Oahu

We just got back from Waikiki Resort, stayed there the first two weeks of September 2012. Very pleased with our stay, as the hotel:

- is very clean and well maintained
- hotel staff is amazing - we felt welcomed and appreciated, with extra attention from the housekeeping staff (especially Rocely).
- hotel is situated in a very good location - 1/2 block from the beach and the only McDonalds in the area (which is open 24 hrs ;)) - in case cheap food is important to you

Essentially, lots of positives, so why not 5 stars?

- pool and pool area - although clean and well-maintained is not super-inviting for lounging hours at a time (it's tiny and in shade a lot). We did not care for the pool with the ocean around the corner, but if that is important to you, keep this in mind.
- ability to change after check-out - everyone has to check out at noon, but most folks do not fly until later in the day so they end up going to the beach, etc. Once you check out, you cannot access the washroom in the lobby (need room key) to change or use facilities. I find that the lack of ability to use the facilities on the day of your checkout is a small minus. I realize this is standard hotel procedure, but would've been nice for hotel staff to have the capability to let us into the lobby washroom and change.

These two small issues aside, excellent stay and highly recommended!

I have delayed writing my review of my stay in August. I have stayed here before and was more than very pleased. Most everything is still the same - the wonderful staff, the location, the calm lobby.

When I checked in, I was told I had a room in the Penthouse. My first thought was I struck the jackpot! When I opened the door, I thought this is really small, where's the rest of it. The diagram on the back of the door shows some really small penthouse rooms and some large rooms. Well, I knew the hotel was sold out and since I dislike moving from room to room, I stayed with what I had, my little room. But what I most disliked was the dirty, worn carpet. Way beyond time to shampoo and/or replace it. Spacewise it would have helped if the office style chair had been removed, leaving the one chair to use at the desk.

I had to call maintenance twice and they took care of the problems very quickly.

Again, the staff is truly wonderful - front desk, bell desk, tour desk, housekeeping, maintenance.
Having the laundromat in the basement was helpful, too. The two meals I had in the lobby restaurant were good.

Room Tip: Ask to see a diagram of the room first, if they assign you a Penthouse room.
