We had heard great things about the House Without a Key at the Halekulani hotel in Waikiki and wanted to experience it ourselves. No reservations are accepted here, so on our first visit we went early and had an early dinner at the edge of the patio. We mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary when we went in and the server took special care of us. We started off with their famous Mai Tai. We tried these all over the island but decided we loved this one best – delicious and it looked beautiful too. It's a casual setting which was nice.
For starters my husband had their Coconut Crusted Shrimp with an Orange Mango Sauce. I sampled their Kabocha Soup with lemongrass and Portuguese Sausage which I totally loved. I hope to be able to recreate it at home so I can continue to enjoy this. Then I had a simple pasta and my husband had their catch of the day. By now the evening entertainment was starting.
We were treated to great Hawaiian music and also the hula by Kanoe Miller (former Miss Hawaii). Then we were surprised by a special anniversary dessert – their Halekulani's Signature Coconut Cake with Vanilla Crème Anglaise.
We went back again near the end of our trip and this visit we just sat in the patio area shortly before the show started. If you get there by 5 pm you get a good selection of seats, but the patio fills up quickly. The show starts at 5:30. This visit we just had drinks – again the Mai Tai's we loved and also the tried the coconut shrimp again. For the entertainment this evening we got to enjoy the current Miss Hawaii, Lauren Cheape, perform the hula. We were fortunate that my husband got to meet her and also get her photo. We really enjoyed everything about The House Without A Key and can definitely recommend it to others.
