“Hana Sushi an east Oahu "ONO" gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2009

I live in Kaimuki and I'll gladly drive the 15-20 minutes it takes to go out of my way to eat at Hana Sushi. It's a little non-descript place, tucked in the back of Hawaii Kai shopping center, right beside "The Shack" sports bar, but their sushi is always really top grade. The Ahi sashimi is they use is sooo fresh & perfect every time. They do their sushi rice just right, just a little bit of sweetness, not too much. For specialty sushi, their crunchy maki & dragon maki are both very tasty combinations. They make really good soba too, perfect sauce broth. The owner is real quiet and usually has his kids (I think) working up front. Don't miss this place for very reasonable ONO (delicious) sushi to go. They also have a couple of tables inside.

“out of the way gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2009

You would never know it, tucked away in a shopping center between Longs Drugs and Safeway in Hawaii Kai, but this little sushi place puts out some excellent stuff and at very reasonable prices. We were here visiting my wife's cousins and they told us about this place. At first we were apprehensive because, quite frankly, it does not look like much from the sidewalk, but the food is superb! Super fresh, tasty and inexpensive. We had 7 different sushi/tempura dishes and tea for $40, so we took one of the take menus as a souvenir (and also so that we could order on the way to the airport). the crunch maki (a shrimp tempura plate with crunchy stuff on the outside) was unbelievable as was the inari and the California Supreme mention a few. If there is a minus to the place, is the atmosphere. This is the place to come to have great sushi, but not as a place for romance . . . unless both of you love sushi.

“BEST SUSHI EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2009

Hana Sushi in Hawaii Kai has by far the best sushi. You can tell that it is carefully made and the fish tastes so fresh. Their sashimi and sushi platters are a great deal! The tenpura is also the best I've ever eaten. Also, the chicken donburi is delicious! Their soups (udon, soba, ramen) are also very tasty. The owners are really nice, and if you're a regular, they often give you free miso soup. They are always so happy to see regulars! I highly recommend Hana Sushi!

“Best Take-out Sushi (East Honolulu)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2008

Hana Sushi is a small restaurant tucked into a a nondescript shopping center in Hawaii Kai. But don't let its unassuming appearance mislead you, the quality here is excellent. It's run by a Japanese immigrant who clearly understands the craft. For $10-12 you can get a superb sushi set (8 - 10 pieces). The Ahi, Toro, and Hamachi, are particularly good. Try the "House Salmon" too (salmon nigiri with radish sprouts).
