“Surprising Find in Kaimuki”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We went here using a "Hot Deals Hawaii" and loved it.
We had the Pork Belly - melts in your mouth.
Hamachi Sashimi - like butter!
Deep fried flounder (waiters suggestion) - Crunchy and delicious!
Shrimp Tempura - good but not the best we have had.
Rainbow roll - so much fish packed on the roll, Yummy!

Recommend you to try it! Come early before the crowds - seating is limited and a little tight.

“Small Plates Galore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Lots of small plates in this tiny restaurant. The food was simple and tasty. Had some sushi along with rolls and small plates all very reasonable especially for HI. Lots of locals but still pretty close to Waikiki. Short ride in Car or taxi.

Service was attentive but it does get crowded. We had a reservation but I noticed that they had a slow period around 9pm before the late crowd arrives. Definite try if you are craving good authentic Japanese without the high tourist prices.

“Everything was exquisite!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

Good flavor for everything! We had tofu steak ($8) - hot with a ponzu sauce; grilled calamari ($11), kabocha pumpkin ($5), grilled beef tongue ($8), a shoyu grilled musubi ($3) that was really yummy and crispy, and an avocado/crab salad ($11) that was heavenly good! No room for sashimi Or sushi, which seemed to be the most popular but it was good!

Parking is tight - go early and make a reservation as it is hard to get a seat otherwise

“Izakaya with Aloha”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

Kapahulu on the east side of Waikiki has become a dining alternative with many small restaurants that give a much needed option to expensive Waikiki franchises. For many years this was a hidden treasure for Japanese tourists in the know.. and now has been discovered by local Japanese-Americans as well as those who want Izakaya style Japanese dining. The space is small and cozy and always full. You need a reservation because there is not a lot of turnover. There were families but this is really not a place for kids - if you have 3 kids and one in a stroller... go to Genki Sushi across the street that is cheap and the kids can be entertained by sushi on parade and you wont bother adults who don't want to listen to other peoples kids.

There is a small sushi bar, community table and a table in the corner on the floor. A TV with sports for the guys. The service is like at a family run restaurant in Japan and just fine for regulars who are the core customers. The toilet is clean. There is a good selection of sake and shochu, wine, Asahi draft all around $5. Yakitori, tofu, croquettes, sashimi, sushi, bowls of udon, entrees of fish and steak and no one rushing you out of your seat. The kind of place you dont really want to tell anyone about if you like your privacy, Izakaya style dining and drinks.

“Hands down the best Izakaya outside of Japan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

This is by far my favorite restaurant in all of Honolulu! Go ahead and order too much food - it's all delicious!!! You won't let any of it go to waste.
