“Absolutely wonderful sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This was an absolutely amazing meal. Incredibly fresh fish, great presentation and friendly service. Some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. Would go again and again, if only I lived in Honolulu. You won't regret this.

“Incredible izakaya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

This restaurant is simply a must try for Japanese izakaya style cuisine. Great selection of sushi and sashimi. You must get a reservation in advance as this is a local favourite. Smooth and efficient service, the food is fresh and well presented. The uni sushi is stunning, as well as the other izakaya dishes such as grilled ox tongue and sashimi salad. A very nice, casual, friendly and cosy dining experience. A very nice choice for fans of great food.

“Great gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This place is fantastic. Basically, not that expensive but food quality is not less than the over-priced "fancy" Japanese restaurants in Waikiki. I also like the Interior design and service. We ordered a bunch of dishes and we liked most of them. For dinner, they accept reservation from 5 to 7 p.m. So, make a reservation early or go and wait after 7 p.m.

“Superb”

This is the gold standard for Japanese cuisine in the United States. Fresh food, amazing service, best sake selection I've seen outside of Japan.

“Ono kine Izakaya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Yeah I like Izakaya style Japanese food and this is top 2 or 3 in Honolulu. Did not want to write this because it is already hard to get a reservation and the locals like to have a place they can go that has amazing atmosphere and is not filled with Japanese tourists or people who read things like Trip Advisor reviews and then I will not be able to go there without reservation. The food is great.. atmosphere is created by indirect lighting through bamboo creating an elegant zen space. Service is bilingual, the shabushabu is clean and no MSG in the broth, I love ordering a bunch of stuff Izakaya style, the beer is cold. The communal table is beautiful and this a great space mama-san has created... a favorite of local celebrities and tourists in the know.
