Go for Happy Hour. 5 - 6:30pm, I think. You can park in the Fort Derussy parking garage. Bring your parking ticket because you need to get it validated.
Walk across the street and up the giant stairs to the Hale Koa hotel. The stairs are too big for one step and too small for two. Can't remember any steps anywhere with this odd configuration.
The Warrior Lounge is upstairs if you approach it from the hotel. You can also get there from the beach. The A/C keeps it very cool - just like a lounge should be. You can sit at the bar or sit at the tables and chairs in the adjoining room.
I was drawn back to Warrior's with the memory of Happy Hour beers and shrimp cocktails. You know the ones where the shrimp hang over the edge of the glass. But alas the back kitchen grew tired of peeling shrimp, and the shrimp cocktails are no more. They have been replaced by ten cent peel-your-own shrimp. Not as good, but more than acceptable.
At the bar was a friendly guy from Kauai. The 22 oz draft beers are $4.00. I was led astray by a Yelp report that the smaller drafts for $3.00 were 16 oz. No, no, no. They are 14 oz only. Stick to the big ones and never forget that beer is sacred. Good beers here on tap, including Longboard.
The Ahi sliders ($6.00) on taro bread buns are very, very good. A little better than the steak panini sandwich (about $7.00) which is good also. The popcorn is free from the machine. Curiously, the machine is emptied at the end of HH.
I cannot comment on later in the night. Seems odd to me that the place closes too early when there is a bunch of people there. They should figure out their staffing situation and stay open longer in a win-win situation where they make more money and the crowd can stay and enjoy their fun.
The HH crowd is a diverse mix of people, so most of you will feel comfortable. When you leave you can stroll by the beach. Don't forget to validate!
