“You'd Better See It - Once in a Lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

If you like to people-watch, see TMI, watch the swimmers, sun-bathers, or be any one of those, this would be the place for wall-to-wall bodies, sun-up to sun-down. I did NOT like the street people who wandered that way - especially those hanging out near the statue of Duke, but there were plenty of cops nearby.

“Crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Crowded. Pretty. Would be great with less people, but hey, its Waikiki...
Surfing can be hazardous with alot of beginners. Be ready to dodge!

The beach was great, you always have access to food, drinks, and bathrooms. Great place to just relax all day.

“A must see...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Coming from Australia you may scoff at Waikiki Beach. It is nothing like the beaches we know and the sand is rather dirty looking and coarse and there is no "real" surf at Waikiki. Sorry guys you need to go to the north shore for the big waves; but you could learn to surf on the baby waves at Waikiki.

Regardless, Waikiki Beach is a hive of activity day and night and if you have a hotel room overlooking the beach you will be occupied all day just looking at what is going on. One night we were treated to an amazing fireworks display from a barge offshore. It was a wonderful surprise.

I felt very safe walking on the beach and the beach front at any time. There are lots of people around (mostly tourists and the homeless) but there is a very friendly and happy atmosphere and there is always something to take your attention.

The rock wall just off the beachfront creates a nice little wading pool for families. It is a great place to watch the sunset and when you do you have your back to all the tourist hyperbole that goes on at Waikiki Beach.

“Of course, it is Waikiki!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Sure you will go to Waikiki beach at least once when you are in Oahu. Very calm and relaxing beach. A lot of other turists, a lot of near restaurants, a lot of near hotels, and so on. Some little crazy locals surfing after jumping from the decks! Nice to watch!
We recommend you to search for the "Sunset on the beach" spot, where they present movies on the beach open area for free, during some weekends.
We also recommend a great walk at the beach from the Waikiki Dukes statue to the end of the beach, where you will see a man's made lake (near to the Hilton's rainbow tower), where you can swim and relax as well.
If you want to Waikiki, is a very good spot to learn or practice the surfing and the SUP (stand up paddle).
At the afternoon end you can relax a little bit more on the water and watch the sunset.
You can take very beautiful pictures there... one side the clear and calm ocean, the other Palm trees, beautiful hotels, and the best part, get the Diamond head as the background of your picture with your loved ones!
