“Too many tourists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Yes I know I am part of the problem however within the Hawaiian Islands there are still parts that appear remote and less touristed than Waikiki Beach. Although for some this is just the ticket. No car needed as one can walk for any need or want. Lively restaurant and bar scene, many wonderful hotels and a long stretch of beach complete with the many many visitors. Your choice, just not mine.

“disappointed in Waikiki”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Hyatt should have spent as much money researching their purchase of
this property as they did on their breakfest sandwiches. This property
just doesn't match up with the hyatt portfolio, I understand that the Hyatt Place is a step down property but this building is beyond a step down, try 3 or 4 steps down. Unfortunately there
isn't much hope. With the selection of hotels in waikiki at this price
point, it would be best to pass on the hyatt place. Not really a kid
favorite and boring for adults too. The pool is so uninviting and within the wind tunnel that even the kids pass on it. We ended up just walking accross the street to use their nieghbor's pool. The breakfest spread is fine but
better hold on to your plate, if the wind doesn't blow it away the
birds will. Just a real boring property. Thank the stars that the staff
are first class, it's the only saving grace here

If you like sitting right next to strangers at the beach, go for it. If not head to the north shore.

“Fantastic Beach, But It Can Get Crowded During The Holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I've been to Wakiki many times over the past 35 years. It is an iconic beach, with Diamond Head in the background and tall hotels lining the sand.

The waves are almost always gentle and there are no dangerous drop-offs. The water is generally very clear with little coral in areas where young ones will play.

If you've never surfed, this is the place to learn. You can take lessons from a number of people that have shops associated with several of the hotels. There are also a few "independent" places to do so. The waves are perfect for learning: one to three feet high, spaced far apart in relatively shallow water. Rides of 100 to 200 feet are possible the first day of learning.

People watching is great. This is an eclectic place with people from all over the world and, surprisingly, from a variety of economic backgrounds. All beaches in Hawaii are public beaches, so this is not reserved just for those staying at the expensive hotels backing up to the beach.

Parking can be an issue, but the public transportation system in Honolulu is very good and affordable.

If you are in Honolulu around the holidays, it will be crowded - really crowded. You'll be amazed at the number of people on the beach. It's a sea of towels with narrow paths to walk between. It's been a while since I was here over the summer months or during spring break, although I remember these times being more crowded as well (although not as much as during Christmas).

On Oahu, there are number of things you must see and this is one. Don't let the crowds keep you away during the holidays as it is still a magical place to be. Hawaiians put on an impressive light show throughout all the islands and the absence of snow makes for a surreal experience if you're from the northern regions of the US, like me.

“Good Size Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

The beach was clean. People on the beach was respectful, not crowded in late October. I am not a person to stay on any beach for hours, but enjoyed time spent.
