“Location! Location! Right in heart of Waikiki”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We stayed at the Hyatt for three nights stayed on Waikiki before going to the Big Island. We have stayed on north shore in the past but this time wanted to have the kids experience Waikiki. I chose the Hyatt because it looked like it would be centrally located and I got a good rate. As far as the location is concerned this is a prime spot right across the street from Kuhio beach park on Waikiki. The Duke Kahanamoku Statue is right across the street. So it is easy access to the beach. They also have a stage at the park where they do free hula shows at night right after the torch lighting ceremony. The hotel is also a easy walk to the various things to do like the international market place, the Kapiolani Park on one end and the Beachwalk shops on the other. The hotel itself is good but to me not to a typical Hyatt standard. The hotel is located on the second and third floor about a small shopping mall with respect ion on second floor and pool and restaurant on third floor. There are two towers in which the rooms are located. the rooms themselves are quite large but you can see they are getting a little dated especially the bathroom area with old looking wallpaper and simple tiles. But overall a good room. My only complaint is that I had booked a ocean view but the room was facing parking garage and the ocean was more at a angle, when I questioned it I was told that is the ocean view a more direct view is a deluxe ocean view. I think other places would have called my room a partial ocean view. The staff was friendly especially on the pool area. The one big bonus was the fact that they have folding beach chairs you can use along with towels to go to the beach across the street. That was a great bonus. Also they had a nice laundry room with multiple washers and driers, however the detergent machines were broken. i went to front desk and said the ABC store on ground floor had some. they did have the Detergent but not the bounty so we went down the road to another one a picked it up. in reality it is cheaper at the ABC store so i would recommend buying there. My real complaint was the elevators. For one they were slow and with 30 plus floors it took time but I can live with that what I did not like was the rid. The elevator shook and made a lot of noise and you can tell they had a lot of play on the tracks and I think they need a upgrade. For the price I paid this was a good place to stay and overall had a good time. However I think there are less expensive places close by for the same benefits and I would probably not stay here another time. I gave it a 4 mainly because of location and use of beach equipment and probably give it more of a 3.5.

Aloha,

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit. We value all of your comments and will definitely share them with our managers. The elevators were modernized to help their speed within the last year however we will share your comments regarding the shaking and noise with our Engineering team. We are glad that you enjoyed the amenities at the pool and will let our team know of the compliments. We hope you will reconsider visiting again the next time you are in Waikiki.

Checked in and was given a great room on 35th floor with ocean view. Nice sized room with large bath. Everyone was extremely pleasnt to deal with but special props to Cameron at Concierge Desk who arranged three trips for us. Everything went off without a hitch!

Great location for a hotel, the beach is so close and it was excellent to have complimentary towels and beach chairs. I don't think I have ever stayed at a hotel where the staff are as friendly as these, they work hard to make your stay special but are always smiling and willing to have a chat. They really made us feel welcome.
The rooms were a good size and very clean, free wifi and and a fabulous view.

I will stay there again

The Hyatt is in a great location right in the heart of Waikiki. The rooms are large and very clean, the only issue being the strength of WiFi in the room which was very patchy. The pool area although busy in the afternoons was never full and the service was excellent. Breakfast could be busy but even when the queue was long, it was only a few minutes before you were seated. The spa was good and the gym relatively well equipped for a hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not near the lifts as they were reported to be noisy.

The hotels postion is great we can not fault that!! The rooms are lovely & big with plenty of room , lovely big bath room too ! however the hyatt is very very busy the lifts seem to take ages !! The noise from the lifts is really bad .... We were given a room right next to the lift as soon as we stepped inside we walked striaght back out & back to front desk they moved us without to much fuss . Everytime the rooms either side of us shut there door your rooms seems to shake which in our case seem liked every five minutes . The hotels resturant Shor was fantastic ,the use of beach towels & chairs was really good too .

This hotel is located in the center of Waikiki beach. To one side are all the great hotels and restaurants, and the other side is the beach walk to the park and Diamond head. We loved our room on the 6th floor overlooking the beach and the pool area. We were low enough to people watch and high enough for a great ocean view. Since all the major tours pickup at the hotel,we never had to rent a car. Never had any problem with noise at night. HIGHLY recommend.

Stayed there for a couple of days. This is my 3rd stay in the past 4 years and obviously despite some meaningless renovation (pool, breakfast area...) the property is below standard of a Hyatt and even more compared to their other hotels in Asia. Rooms are really getting old, you can hear your neighbors, doors slamming. Service is not good either: my room phone wasn't working on day one and no one managed to do fix it until I left 3 days later (they didn't have a spare phone...). Breakfast has been serious trimmed down with half of the choice I had in 2012 but still $30+ for the bill. The only good point is the location which is in the busy Waikiki area and few steps away from the beach. Serious upgrade needed but looking at the comments below it seems no one cares. So I will skip this hotel next time.
(I'm a Platinium member and that too they didn't really care)

Aloha,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We regret that you were unhappy with your recent visit and that you feel we are not listening to the guest reviews on TripAdvisor. Your comments regarding the food and beverage and housekeeping services will be shared for review within the departments. We would like to note however that it is because of guest feedback on property and online that help create some changes to our property. Due in large part to these comments for example our elevators received upgrades and our buffet service now includes an Express check out to help our guests get to their tours and other events quickly in the early morning hours. The $13 million investment in the third floor has been greeted by many as a welcome addition to our property. We are sorry you felt otherwise but as mentioned we will share your comments with the F&B team.
