“Great staff, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

A friend and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki in November 2012 and cannot speak highly enough of the friendly, yet professional staff there. We arrived about midday after a long flight and the reception staff did everything they could to get us into our room early. We were pleased to not only get in early, but to have a room on Level 23.

The rooms are a good size and it was lovely having a balcony looking over the sea and the pool. Bear in mind that ocean view and ocean front are not the same thing. We liked seeing both the ocean and the street view. We found the beds really comfortable, which is unusual in a hotel.

We really enjoyed the breakfasts - so much choice! The cooked to order omelette was great, as were the other dishes. Personally I love really crispy bacon and Hyatt delivered :-)

The property is huge, and we enjoyed wandering around. As we were on holidays we didn't care that we got lost (we didn't pay too much attention to where things were, so its no wonder!). It was good being across the road from the beach, and only a short walk to many restaurants and other facilities.

Room Tip: Go for a room on a higher level - Waikiki is a noisy place

My husband and I have stayed here twice. Once in 2008 and then for part of our honeymoon in 2011. We love the Hyatt for it's location and atmosphere. We were able to walk right to the beach to play in the surf or walk up and down the shops. We would usually do all of our exploring in the mornings and then spend the later afternoon at the pool reading, sitting in the hot tub, relaxing, listening to the ukelele band, or just the surf in the evening. It was wonderful. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, we found it to be a bit pricey, so we just bought breakfast stuff and kept it in our refrigerator in the room.

We stayed at this lovely hotel in October 2012. The best thing about it are the staff. All really lovely people from the front desk, restaurant to the maids.

We had a problem with our booking (Thomas Cook/Hotel Beds- signature) regarding our breakfast deal. The hotel bent over backwards to accommodate us until I had sorted it out with Thomas Cook/Hotel Beds. They were very patient with us and treated us exactly the same as other valued customers.

Location - Outstanding, centre of 'the strip' and directly over the road from the famous beach
(take care when crossing the roads, only cross at the crossings - otherwise your 'jay walking' as we found out on our first day)

On arrival we were given an upgrade without even asking to a side sea view room in the Ewa tower . It was lovely. We had free telphone calls and internet access, very handy when calling home or trying to sort out your travel agent!

Lifts - I was really worried after reading about the very slow lifts on trip advisor, but it wasn't a problem at all.

The rooms are a little tired looking but very clean and have everything you need. Towels changed as often as you like. Bathroom and vanity unit area are seperate, coffee making machine (but never used it as it looked the same as the one in Vegas and that was the worst coffee I have ever tasted).Fridge replenished daily with water.

Pool area on the 3rd floor is small but functional and clean. Pool very small so dont plan on 'doing lengths', ok for plunging into out of the heat. Really comfy sun beds, and maintenance staff always rotating and cleaning them.
There is a jacuzzi, again very small but never experienced a problem using.

The pool attendant will supply you with a chair and towels for the beach (like a backpack) on a daily basis at no cost.
Pool towels in abundance, never a problem having as many as you want.
Pool bar with staff waiting on and providing a pool side service, lovely cocktails and a limited lunch menu.

Food
The Shor restaurant is wonderful, bit pricey, but very high quality food. We ate there every morning for the buffet breakfast and a couple of times for dinner, excellent food and service (they knew I liked an outside table and always made sure thats what we got).

There is also a Japanese restaurant on site, but we never visited.

There are some lovely shops on the ground floor - the UGG shop is always very popular. There is a lovely coffee shop - opens at 6.00am so ideal for us early risers.

There is a launderette on site, very reasonably priced if you dont want to take home huge loads of dirty washing.

They have a very large gym for those who want to continue with their fitness regime - looked very good through the window!

Tipping is expected but I tip for receiving good service not to receive good service and tipped accordingly - 'for your convenience' they estimate your tip at the bottom of your bill starting at 15%.(all restaurants do this and a couple even include the tip in the bill)

Incidentals - We weren't told about the resort tax when we booked in and so I queried it with customer relations on my return home and got a full refund. Make sure you are fully aware of all 'incidentals' as they call it when asking for a credit card at check in.

Overall, hotel very nice - some areas need a little TLC. Staff wonderful. And would absolutely recommend.

Room Tip: 19th floor - Ewa tower - excellent view of 'strip' and beach.

Great room, a little on the old side but relatively great hotel overall. The bathroom needs an upgrade as the tiles are starting to "peel" off. The shower head also needs replacing as the water occasionally spits water.
The service at this Hyatt is great and people are very friendly. The newly renovated pool and bar also makes this a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor and away from the elevators. We stayed pretty high up but right beside the ele...

Date of Visit: Oktober 2012

Situated at the Heart of Waikiki Beach. You can never go wrong with this Hotel Location. Walking distance to Shopping Malls, Beach etc etc..

Parking is located in the other side of Hotel building and of course Valet Parking available for a FEE.

Room: We were upgraded to Deluxe Sea View on 22nd Floor and the view was breathtaking. The room was spacious with 2 double beds & Balcony. During our stay i couldnt find a single Pen/pencil for writing but it was tolerable. Then I decide to drink a Wine and there was no Wine Glass in the Room in a 5 Star Hotel. There was Coffee machine at least.

Bathroom: Big enough (i am 170cm/65kg) for me. The Bath Tub is not a comfortable Bath Tub but who will use one when u can swim in the Pool and relax by the beach.

Breakfast: I am happy with the breakfast selection. I stayed at Hyatt Place Honolulu a few days before & comparing this, to that is refreshing. They do fresh Ommelett.

Staff: Friendly and helpful. TIPPS will make a big difference.

and Don`t forget they will charge for RESORT FEE.

Just a reminder, this is a HUGE Hotel with a Mall. So this place can be Chaotic. I personally prefer smaller Hotels / with less Rooms and less crowded.

The Interior in the Hotel Room is not Modern but also not Modern, it will soon need somework but at the moment they are still bareable for a night or two.

Room Tip: Sea View and high Floor

Arrived before the usual check in time.. Offered an upgrade the view was a deluxe full sea view.... Worth every penny.

The room on the 19 th floor of the diamond head tower.
View was just amazing
Huge room and bed. The bathroom
was small but had everything you needed.
Spotless room with flowers was a nice touch.
The wifi was fast and easy to connect.
Yes there is resort fee but it hardly breaks the bank.
You get free calls, wifi and water..... All at a reasonable cost.

Really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the hotel.
Make sure you check out the pool on floor 3.... Great pool area and nice place for lunch.

When it came to check out there was one small problem over the tax.
This was soon cleared up and the service from the front desk manager Danielle was very professional..... We were soon off on our cruise.
Very much looking forward to our return trip.

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Hyatt Waikiki. The hotel has a nice lobby area and lots of shops in the lower floors. The rooms were not large but they suited us just fine. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room as we were out exploring the island most of the time. It has great beach access and there are a lot of restaurants in the area. Our favorite was Duke's. Reasonable price and good food.

Our likes:
- They let us check in quite early in the day. We arrived at 10 am and were given a room right away. I was shocked and pleased.

- Our flight left for the mainland late our last day. The checkout time was 11am and we were worried about leaving our luggage in our car since there are a lot of warnings about theft on the island. They kept our luggage for us at the bell desk while we went and enjoyed the beach. When we were ready to pack up and head to the airport they allowed us to use a hospitality suite for 30 minutes to clean up so we didn't have to fly home covered in sand and salt water.

- We had a mountain view on the 30th floor. We couldn't hear any noise from the street.

- We were able to purchase our room using American Airline miles.

- I liked the layout of the bathrooms. Nice sink separate from the tub and toilet.

Dislikes
- We were in room 3068 which is right next to the elevators. It was loud all the time. You could hear the elevators going up and down every few seconds. Unless you are hard of hearing or can sleep through anything be sure to request to stay in another room. Our hospitality suite was also right next to the elevator and it was very loud too. They should have made these rooms into storage closets or something. It was very distracting at all times - day and night - that you were in the room.

Overall it was a nice hotel and we would have enjoyed our stay much more if we had not been right next to the elevators. The hotel's layout is a bit confusing and we had a hard time finding the front door (beware of all the one way streets) and the location of the elevators to get to our room. They had a map but it wasn't really very helpful.

To get to the "front door" where you can park while checking in

From Kalakaua Ave (one way) take a left turn onto Kanekapolei St.
Take the next right and go along the back side of the hotel.
The very next street is Uluniu Ave (one way) take another right.
The entrance is about half way down the block on the right. The parking garage is also located on this street although it is on the left side of the street.
