“Great place to stay if you don't care about being beachside.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2009

The hotel is filled with a lot of Wyland art so very picturesque but is not beachside. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the beach depending on traffic. But unlike a lot of hotels in Waikiki that depend on people going to the beach, this hotel has a very nice pool and jacuzzi. It's never too crowded and you can always get a lounge chair by the pool. There is internet in the rooms and even a fridge. The staff were very friendly and the room was great with a very large TV and a balcony on both sides. I would definitely stay again.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights (3rd night free deal) and feel that this is more than long enough. The building it self is obviously an older building that was renovated with new paint, fixtures and furniture. It was done well with what they had to work with and we loved all the Wyland art that was around. I think our favorite part of the hotel was the fact that we were on the 16th floor of the main building and each floor had a different huge Wyland piece hung so that it would be the first thing you see when the doors to the elevator opened. We had fun trying to guess which floor had which painting on it. Anyway, while that was fun, I don't think that it should have been the best part of our stay there.
As far as the staff goes, it seemed that housekeeping and the gentlemen at the valet were the best they had. They were very accomodating and always had something nice to say. (Very customer service oriented) The people running the front desk were less than friendly and, at one point, I was given serious attitude about asking for a bandaid. Unfortunetly, I didn't get his name as I was completely shocked at the "welcoming" I got when I came to the counter.
The "Room Service", and I use this term VERY loosely, was absolutely rediculous. The service came from the Italian resturant that is attached to the hotel's main building. When my boyfriend called to order off the menu that was supplied to us in the Guest Book they asked him how to spell 'Tiramisu" (which was on the menu). Then he proceeded to order a pizza, 2 milks and 2 waters. They then informed him that they did not have ANY milk, but "they think they might have some cream left". Seriously?!?!?! SO he said water will do just fine. About 30 minutes later a man came to the door with a pizza and told us that they don't have tiramisu at all and they couldn't bring us any water because they "DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO PUT IT IN"!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! I mean honestly, why even have a room service if you aren't going to get anything that you actually asked for? We had to leave the hotel and walk to the ABC Store across the street to get some water and some milk and bring it back to room so we could have it with our meal. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the purpose of Room Service is so that you can stay in your room, relax, and let them deliver your WHOLE meal to you...right? That's why you are paying the big bucks for it.
The only reason why I gave this place a '3' is because of the location. It was a short walk to all the shopping and resturants that Waikiki offers, but away from the main strip that got very crowded and loud at night. There was quite a bit of construction going on in the area, but it never messed with our sleep and I was pleasantly surprised that we could not hear more of the street/construction noise. (Practically none with the sliding glass door closed)
There is no bellman, so be prepared to take your bags up with you (which was fine with us), and the kids running the coffee shop in the evenings seem to get annoyed when you go in there to get an evening coffee. (Heaven forbid they must do thier job) The people in the mornings, however, were very accomodating and one woman actually REMADE our blended coffees completely because she felt that they came out too watery.
In the end, this would probably be an okay place if all you needed was a place to sleep, but I would not go here if you are expecting a staff that seems willing to do thier job without looking forced to do it.
It COULD be a great place, but they have some serious training to do before they get there. One more thing - I would definetly get one of the one room kitchenette rooms, if availiable. According to the other reviews the rooms sound extremely small, but the one we had was a decent size and having the fridge really helped.

Aloha,

It was unfortunate to hear that you were not fully satisfied with your stay at The Wyland Waikiki. The vast majority of our guests have raved about our entire team's superior hospitality. Our Front Desk staff is trained to do whatever it takes to ensure guest satisfaction so we are sorry to hear that you feel otherwise. To clarify, we do have Bell staff on duty from at the very least 6am-10pm; however luggage assistance is available 24/7 upon request. Thank you for also sharing your constructive feedback in regards to our food & beverage tenants. Despite the fact they lease space from us and have separate management; they should indeed be providing the same impeccable service that we at The Wyland Waikiki are known for. We have shared your comments with Kimo Bean & Spada management teams to be addressed promptly. The Wyland Waikiki truly values your patronage and we are glad to hear you were impressed by our central location, comfortable Deluxe Kitchenette rooms, unique artistic ambiance and customer-oriented Valet and Housekeeping staff. We sincerely hope to have an opportunity to serve you again in the future.

After reading the great reviews here we decided to book this hotel for our first visit to Honolulu. We were looking for a quiet place away from the noise of the main strip, and this hotel delivered...at least in terms of location. We live in a major city and have lived in the heart of downtown, but we were not prepared for the amount of ambient noise there was. We paid for an upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite, and were given one on the 3rd floor. As we arrived late at night, I didn't think much of the noise level at the time since it was late and we were tired. We didn't get much sleep that night however, because we were woken up before it was light out by the birds, traffic, and wind noise. I don't know if it's normal for this city, but the wind was incredibly noisy our entire stay. We asked for another room, and was given one on the 7th floor, which was better, a bit quieter. This hotel is on the main road that all the city buses travel on, as well as non-stop tour buses. Our room faced the construction site, and endlessly beeping trucks woke us up every morning.

On the good side, the room was clean, though the walls are banged up from the furniture and luggage and could use a new coat of paint. The bed was super comfortable, and housekeeping did a great and efficient job with our room. The location is good, only a short walk from the main strip and the beach, and as mentioned the bus stop is right outside the hotel. The hotel provides beach/pool towels, so no need to pack your own bulky towels. The business center with the 2 imacs was great, and even when there's a lineup to use it people are generally good about sticking to the 15 minute time limit. The only bad thing was the wireless connection did not work for us in the lobby (there is no wireless in room) so we had to use their computers.

Aside from the noise, overall a nice reasonably priced hotel for the area. Front desk staff were efficient though not too friendly. The exception was the front desk manager who was very helpful when we asked about car rentals and directions.

My wife and me just returned from an 11 nights stay at the Wyland Waikiki. Apr 6th to the 17 Apr.This was our 3rd trip to waikiki .The Wyland Waikiki is the most friendly and efficient hotel we have ever stayed. The ALOHA spirits is really felt in every department of this hotel. We were blessed with a corner room on the 10th floor with mountains view in the east block(not the main building). We had an extremely comfortable queen size bed slightly high from the floor ,a kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker and dishes and utensils for two persons. We had a full size couch that was also a hide a bed, a nice round table and 2 chairs.the air conditioner was very well situated with a very efficient wall mounted thermostat. The bathroom is small, but lots of room for one person shower. We had a wrap around balcony with 2 wicker chairs and a small wicker table. In this building we had a small salt water pool on the ground level which was heated and very comfortable. There was always clean towels available. The house keepers were just awsome,we were always greeted with a beautiful smile and no matter what time we left in the morning when we returned our rooms were cleaned .They even washed the dishes. The flat screen tv had 32 chanels but we are not real TV buffs. Now to get to the main building we had to cross the hotel parking and pass by the valets.Well the best souvenir we brought back is the smiles and genuine laugh of Rudy and all the others that worked with him. What a fine group of people. In the main building ground floor there is 2 computers available for hotel guests. Then there is a bar which we did not use,the younger generation seemed to have a great time there. Then the coffee shop.We had tickets for the continental breakfast and we picked up our bagels and drinks in the evening to bring to our room for breakfast in the morning. The staff was all awsome ,but Ray stood out from the group as a very efficient person paying attention to details ,like wearing gloves to prepare our meals. At the reception area when we checked in Robin is the one that stands out for us.When we went to our room and we wanted to go pick up some snacks (after taking us 48 hours to reach our destination) out room door would not lock.He called the repairman in and it would take a couple of hours before he could charge the equipment needed to program our lock ,and knowing that we wanted to go get some food he came up and stood guard at our door until we returned. This is all the little but important things that makes this hotel very special.Of course there is the chill room with the massage chairs, the pool ,and hot tub,the Wyland decor and art all over the hotel and the grounds etc etc. The hotel is not new.But very well maintained and clean. The location was ideal for us.We are no longer beach bums we are seniors. All the transportations are available directly in front of the hotel or on the valet side. It's a short walk to the beach .There is a restaurant but we did not use it.We preferred to get our food from the pantry on kuhio which is a few blocks to the left on kuhio. This hotel is just a short walk to The royal Hawaiian shopping center and the galleria duty free store and numerous other shopping. In closing the hotel staff is what makes a great hotel. And the Wyland certainly got the best.Congratulations to all of you.We will return .Mahalo

After much serching through all the hotels in the Waikiki area, we settled on the Wyland Waikiki. It was The Best! Excellent value for your money! Front desk Hosts were fast, fun and friendly. We were greeted with a smile and they happily granted my request for the highest floor available (which was the one below the penthouse! Upgrade for free!). The room was so clean and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever had in a motel. Room was a bit smaller than most, but it was a perfect size for the two of us. Great restaurant there in the "Spada". Had breakfast and dinner there and was very satisfied with both meals. Waitstaff was very friendly and courteous. This hotel was in a perfect location if you don't have a car. The public bus stop was right out the front door. The number 42 bus takes you to the Marina in about 15 minutes and to Pearl Harbor in a little over an hour. Only $2.00 a ride. Then a half block walk to board the Trolley or be picked up for the Circle Tour. About 5 minutes to Waikiki Beach, and two blocks to Kalakaua Ave., which is the "5th Avenue" or "Michigan Street" of Honolulu. A great selection of shopping and restaurants are all within 10 minutes of walking. I would recommend getting a "GoOahu" Card. Review the website and see if those are the things you are going to be doing while here. It will save you a lot of money. I would stay here again!

After many weeks of preparation we finally decided on the Wyland. What a great place to stay! The rooms were very clean and even though we had read that they were small we found them to be plenty large for 2 people. All the room we needed for two weeks in eden. Check in was easy as was check out. The chill room was incredible! Great massage! Free calls to Canada for the first 15 min. was a great saving also. All in all this was the best vacation we have been on yet and hope we can return in the future. Aloha and mahalo!! From P.E.I. Canada!!!

I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and found it to be very beautiful. Looking around at all the marine life depicted in art and sculpture really made me feel like I was staying somewhere very luxurious. The ammenities that this hotel offers were great as well. Free internet & printing access for guests in the lobby with plush couches set all around made me feel really relaxed just hanging around the hotel instead of seeking refuge in my room like I have done at some hotels. The massage chairs in the lobby were to die for as well. The only complaints that I have about this hotel at all are about the size of the room we stayed in, but I realize that this is a smaller boutique hotel and for the price value it was well worth it and I would do it again. The bathroom is teeny tiny and the space between the twin beds that we had was very small. Disclaimer: I am a plus sized person however, so this may not be the case for everyone. If you book here, I would highly recommend getting a room with 1 bed instead of the 2.
