My husband and I stayed at the marina resort at the Ilikai for 7 days. The bed we stayed in was super comfortable and spacious! It was a studio in the 4th floor. The room has a refrigerator, microwave, and oven with kitchen utensils. Nothing to complain about. If you're coming here as a couple the room is not romantic if you know what I mean. The concierge, Michael if I remember correctly, was the best! Checking in was easy and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's an easy walk to the beach and lagoon area.

My adult family of six occupied three rooms at the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai last week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Shell Vacations staff in Suite 212 were pleasant and efficient, The well-appointed rooms were large and clean--pretty much as depicted in the photos on the resort's website The property's location was excellent--close enough to be within comfortable walking distance to all Waikiki-area activities but far enough so that you do not have the crush of people outside your hotel.

I noticed that stops for the city bus, Waikiki Trolley and tour buses were conveniently located in front of the hotel. Also, the Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon is very accessible by foot, as are the Village's shops and restaurants. The Friday night fireworks at the Hilton were only a two-minute walk away.

We chose to take rooms on a higher floor (21st floor) with a view of the city rather than partial ocean view rooms on a lower floor (3rd floor), which unfortunately, also provided a view of the roof of what I think was the hotel's bar and grill.

We had a minivan so parking was an extra USD28 per day, which turned out to be a competitive rate. Valet parking only but with unlimited in and out. The valet staff was efficient and I never had to wait more than two minutes for my car.

The fact that the Ilikai is a 50-year old property was an initial cause of concern when I booked our stay. It turned out not to be a problem as the property has been well-maintained and its age has become part of its charm. The rooms have been renovated and the appliances, while not state-of-the-art, are of recent vintage. I was reading a post which suggested a TV upgrade. No problem with our TVs, which were sleek flat-screen models (not that we watched a lot of TV).

I would not hesitate to stay again at the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai on a future trip.

Greetings from the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai. It is fantastic to hear that your family thoroughly enjoyed their stay with us. I am glad that all three of your spacious studios were comfortable and in great condition. Our staff truly embodies the spirit of aloha and is genuinely able to provide impeccable hospitality during our office hours of 7am-11pm. I must agree our convenient location is superior to others in Waikiki. I'm glad our valet vendor took great care of your vehicle and that you found their prices to be reasonable. We hope to serve you again.

Best Regards,

This is a selection of rooms in the Ilikai that have been converted to 1 room studio condos. They are roomy and clean. Of course there is going to be street noise. These rooms are located right over the top of ala moana boulevard and noise should be expected. Full size kitchen appliances. Right near a bus and trolley stop....
Walk to ala Moana mall. Expensive and not competitive, but it's a nice place to spend while in Paradise !

Hello from Honolulu! Thank you for your 5 star review. We are thrilled to hear you found our full kitchen studios to be spacious and tidy. Overlooking Ala Moana Boulevard does come with mild traffic noise but our convenient location makes up for it. Looking forward to your next stay!

Great location, just steps away from the beach and just a short walk to great food and shopping. The staff always provides 5 star service especially John and Rowley. Rooms have great ocean view and have a nice kitchen for your cooking needs. Love waking up in the morning and enjoying some fresh papaya and some hot green tea. Can't wait till my next visit in September!

We just returned from our stay in Waikiki and at the Waikiki Resort. While the staff at the Ilikai Hotel (where the Waikiki Resort Hotel is housed) was AWFUL and I hope you never have to deal with them during your stay, the Waikiki Resort staff and stay was the most amazing part of our trip. I traveled with my father and 7 year old daughter and 3 year old daughter. The location was great because it is located right at the end/or beginning of the Waikiki strip and right next to the Hilton so you're not so caught up in the 'party scene' as in the middle of Downtown Waikiki but you have the benefit of being a 3 minute walk from the Hilton Lagoon for fireworks on Friday night, paddleboard rentals or just swimming with your kids. The room needs a TV upgrade but if you're sticking around your room and upset about the TV in downtown Hawaii, that's pretty sad. We barely turned it on. The balcony is huge and whether you have a somewhat beach view (no Waikiki Resort room has a direct view of the ocean, but really, whether you have an indirect view of the water or a downtown view, the rooms and views are great.

The staff was wonderful. They stand every time you enter the front desk suite and truly do everything possible to make your stay perfect. The kitchenettes are very handy as well.

The couch pull out was a bit noisy but very comfortable and they did provide a mattress topper on request at no charge.

I'd highly encourage a stay at the Marina Resort and if we're lucky enough to return to Honolulu, we'll definitely be staying at this Hotel again!!

Aloha from the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai. It sounds like your family had a vacation of a lifetime at our resort. Our less chaotic side of Waikiki locale and friendly, guest-oriented staff cannot be beat. We are pleased to be completing the installation of flat panel TVs in all of our suites by year end. Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to welcoming you again.

This was my first experience staying at a boutique hotel. Shell Vacations somehow owns a share of the Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki and treats those properties as its own hotel within a hotel. I had a huge room with king size bed and an adjacent living room with folding couch. There was a large balcony. The kitchen was a full kitchen with real stove, full size refrigerator, microwave oven, kitchen sink, pots, pans and dishes. There is free Wi-Fi in the unit and a large size television with remote controls for the TV and the AC. Frankly, I found myself with more space than I truly needed.

[The cleaning service only comes every 4th day so you make your own bed and clean up. The towel supply was set to last for the entire 3 day interval.]

The Ilikai is right on the beach. The cafe and bar on the main level is beachside with a nice nice view.

The Ilikai is centrally located and I frequently walked over to the main boulevards and all the boutique stores. In the other direction, the Ala Moana Shopping Center is only about 4 blocks away for shopping and the wonderful Food Court.

My only minor complaint involves how long it took to actually check-in. When I arrived, there was only one at a desk and he was going over everything in detail to the couple checking-in. Another group preceded me. All in all, it took about 30 minutes. Enough wait to make me take out my Nook tablet and begin reading. After checking in, I was advised that I should see the man in the next room for a welcome bag. Well, he was all by himself and he was busy. I gave up. I returned 2 more times before I finally got the welcome bag and the commercial about Shell Vacations.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and I would do it again!

Dear Carolyn J,

Thank you kindly for your online review. Our rooms are indeed huge boasting 500 square feet of interior space in addition to their spacious furnished balconies. Many other Waikiki hotels feature rooms less than half that size and no kitchens at the same rate or higher. Glad you enjoyed our complimentary wireless internet and ocean facing lobby level restaurant & bar. Having the beach and lagoon an easy stroll away is just icing on the cake. We are thrilled you had an excellent stay. Thank you for sharing your frustration about the wait time for check-in and to obtain your welcome kit. We apologize for the delay and will evaluate our staffing levels based on your feedback. Again, we are happy that our vacation ownership resort suited your needs.

Always a great place to stay and this Feb was no exception. Twenty days went by way too fgast. We are Shell Vacation Club Hawaii Elite owners and have stayed at the Waikiki Marina a number of times over the last six years. In fact, our stays at this location convinced us to buy the timeshare.
Rooms are studios with full kitchens and a lanai. Furnishings are average but always clean. But what makes this place Excellent is the helpful and responsive staff. Whether it is a corkscrew, a rice cooker, or an emergency cleanup, these folks go out of their way to make you feel at home. The concierge and the front desk staff are a great team and, even for experienced Hawaii travelers like us, offer great suggestions and options to make your visit more enjoyable.

The Ilikai complex is 50 years old this year but over the past few years ownership has taken significant steps to update facilities. Not luxurious but comfortable and a great location on the west end of Waikiki.

Our only complaint this trip was with our timeshare owner's presentation (if you attend a presentation you qualify for some good discounts on attractions, golf, etc.). Shell Vacation Club was recently purchased by Wyndham and we were interested in what changes would be forthcoming. The salesman and the manager would not answer direct questions as to benefit changes and the advantages of purchasing additional points. If you have ever had a bad experience buying a used car, you know how we felt. Particularly disappointing was the new Wyndham personnel bad mouthing the Shell Vacation Club and implying Shell members and properties were second class. 180 degrees from our experience when we bought into the club. Bottom line, stay away but if you want the discounts, attend the presentation but make it clear you want to keep it short and your interest in buying is minimal.

Room Tip: Skip the valet and park at the Hale Koa parking garage across from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Ver...
