“Another great visit to Hawaii!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We've been coming to the Ilikai for a number of years but find that we get the best deal through the Waikiki Marina Resort. The hotel itself is perfectly located, the rooms - even the Junior suites - are spacious, clean and well thought out, and having kitchen facilities for those times that we'd rather not dine out helps make our stay more enjoyable. The folks at Waikiki Marina Resort are excellent: knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and super efficient - whether it's arranging transport, forgotten personal items, or simply looking after our bags while we enjoyed our last day - they were always on the ball. We really enjoyed our stay there for the first two weeks in November - already looking forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: The "green option" - daily trash and towel service and bi-weekly makeover works well

Stayed early November 2012. Vacation timeshare through Shell Vacation Club. I've stayed at two other Shell Vacation resorts which were fantastic. This was NOT one of them!! Everything needs an upgrade because it's so dated. The appliances were very old, stained, and cracked. There was no dishwasher or washer/dryer combo. The silverware looked like something you would take camping....dented and worn. Can't believe Shell thinks it was acceptable to pass off old cheap blenders with cracked plastic jars, and cheap stained toasters, etc. to their guests. The microwave was built 11 years ago and it worked fine. There also was no upper cupboards, so we had to store our groceries on the counter, unless you wanted to stuff them in amongst the pots and pans in the lower cupboard. There was an extension phone by the bed which was dead and no charge would bring it back to life. The unit's air conditioner was in the wall near the balcony, noisy enough to provide white noise to help sleep. The view was of the air conditioners on the roof above the lobby shops, which were two dress shops, a coffee shop, and a convenience store. The rest of the shop spaces were vacant. The pool is not very impressive. They charge $25 a day for valet only parking, but they have a parking garage a block away for self parking at $20 a day (special priced for condo guests). This can be accessed by walking across the Ilikai plaza to the Modern Honolulu's pool area, then through the Modern's open area to the door that accesses the 2nd floor pedestrian bridge to the parking garage. Since we first stayed at the Modern Honolulu next door, we quickly discovered that connection of the two hotels. The Modern is very lovely hotel, with a lot of double loungers around their pool. The Ilikai was built in 1963, and you can tell because the balconies are still painted an ugly aqua/turquoise color. On the plus side, the Shell people were very nice and they comp the bellman for you. The lobby and plaza are spacious and attractive, if only the rooms were as nice as the lobby floor. I will not stay here again, nor recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a upgraded modern room on a higher floor, if available.

The resort has all of the amenities one would expect on Waikiki beach and is very nicely done and friendly staff. There are several excellent restaurants on the premises and the ones we experienced were very pleasant with good food. It is located in the central part of Waikiki Beach and easy to find and convenient to shopping and local restaurants as well as the beach and Marina. Unless you are a beach person all of the attractions are drive to or commercial tours from the Resort. Parking is as one would expect on Waikiki Beach at $25 per day plus tips and valet parking only. The rooms while nicely appointed are either ocean view (very nice) or mountain view (translates to city high rise view). If your room is a city view you cannot open doors because of traffic noise. Since we are not beach types and not fond of fighting city traffic for every activity it is not likely that we would stay there again.

Room Tip: By all means ask for an ocean view room! If you rent a car consider that city traffic is like any la...

We booked this hotel as part of a package, and admittedly, we made the reservations at the last minute due to weather issues in our originally planned destination. We got there and the check-in process was smooth. We went to our rooms and saw that the paint around the door jambs was seriously peeling - not a good first impression of a room. Our room had a "city" view which was extremely noisy when the sliding doors were open and/or you intended to sit on the patio. A few other areas in which this property is adequate - but nothing special. Toiletries - the soap, shampoo, and conditioner that are provided had a harsh chemical smell. Valet parking was very efficient - but expensive at $25 per day plus tips. Check-out time was 10 am with absolutely no complementary grace time. The pool is very small and basic - not a resort-type pool. Use of the internet to print out a boarding pass is $.45 per minute. The on-site restaurant has decent prices - but food is mediocre. The good things...the room was comfortable, the kitchen was very well stocked with plates and utensils. The location at the marina was preferable to the crowded beach area.

To say I LOVED my stay at the Waikiki Marina Resort would be an understatement. Upon arriving 4 hours before check-in, my bags were held for me while I got a bit to eat. I left my cell number with Kristin who told me she would try to get me into my room early. One lunch plate later my phone rang with the good news "your room is ready". My bags were delivered promptly and it was the start of a FABULOUS week. I can not praise the staff of this resort enough!!!! EVERY time I went to the office with a request it was taken care of with a smile. I will definitely be staying here again.

This is our third stay here and as with the other two times, everything was great. We booked air/hotel thru an Expedia package. This is part of Shell Vacation Club but no pressure or anything to either view their presentation or join. They have staff onsite 7 days from 7am-11pm who are so nice and helpful. Check in and check out were quick and easy. We got partial oceanview / green housekeeping (daily trash pickup and towel/soap/toiletry replacement) which suits us fine. Next time we will contact Waikiki Marina/Shell directly though as then we can work with them and specify a room on higher floor (we got partial oceanview -you can see more on a higher floor. Spacious room (king bed), nice lanai, full kitchen, nice tv, internet access, in room safe, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, washer/dryer down the hall. The only improvement that would be great is the pool is old and not updated - but we went to the beach most days anyway. Hotel lobby and patio areas are beautiful, nice bar/grill downstairs also. If doing any in suite meals, recommend going to Food Pantry (full size grocery store ) on Hobron - street between McDonald and ABC walking away from beach - 3 blocks until it deadends go right and its in a sort of office/shop looking building on the right. Much better prices and selection than either ABC store or the small convenience store in hotel lobby. Also the bus goes right by the hotel into the other end of Waikiki and is easy and convenient. Each fare is $2.50 (they dont give change) but when you put your money in the driver will give you a piece of paper you can use for your return trip on same day (watch other people who get on the bus - the driver has a plastic bag next to the place you put $$ in and people just put those paper strips in there). Bottomline - this place is just great - we would not stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: HIgher floors are better view if oceanside. They are also better if city view (less noise) and ther...
