The entire hotel area was very clean. Nice (but small) pool area with wooden lounges. Lobby is very small - but very neat and clean. We had a room with a kitchenette and I read other reviews that said their kitchenette had a sink, stove-top, microwave, refrig, dishes, pans, etc. Someone must have stolen ours because we had NO stove-top, NO microwave but did have a refrig, coffee maker, dishes and pans. I paid for a view of the city & park. The park is Ft. DeRussey and the city was surrounding high-rise condos & other hotels. Plus below us was a very busy gas station and since we were on the 5th floor - - it was very visible of cars going and coming all night long. If you are near the front - - it is extremely noisy with all of traffic on Kalakaui & Kuhio Streets. It seemed that 'ALL' emergency vehicles went by the hotel with their sirens blasting the entire distance of Waikiki. The hotel is at the edge of Waikiki and a block away from very high-end very-expensive shops such as Gucci, Coach, etc. I found it 'NOT' to be within easy walking distance to anything except an ABC store of which there is one in every block of Waikiki. The person who checked us in made a mistake in our check-out date when he punched in our 'room-keys' and so we were locked-out after two days and so we had to go to the front desk and have our keys re-keyed.

We booked a City/Park Hotel Room, which had no mention of any kitchen facilities but came with a sink, small fridge, dishes, dish drying rack, coffee maker, and utensils. We were pleasantly surprised! Add in our AAA discount, and our vacation was off to a good start!

The staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome, and the hotel is very conveniently located. Everything was just a few blocks away, so that was definitely a plus.

Valet is $25 per day, but alas, that's pretty much the going rate in Waikiki.

The only downside is that the hotel is located at an awkward intersection, and we had to drive into a crosswalk to get on the road. Some confusion, hilarity and honking ensued.

My wife and two children(12 and 16) spent 10 days at the Outrigger Luana over the Christmas holidays. We were very pleased on checking in to be upgraded to a two-bedroom unit, room 718. While it 'only' had a city view, the size and convenience more than made up for not having the teeny view of the ocean between the Trump tower and Hilton tower. Two spacious bedrooms, washer/dryer, full kitchen, two lanais and a huge open area that can't even be called a lanai made this a perfect long-duration stay. I've heard some complaints from previous travellers here about street noise - we live in a rural area and are used to sleeping in complete silence, but city noise doesn't bother us - it's part of the whole experience - if you want to escape it, stay high up on a beachfront condo - that's the only way you will. We loved the short walk through Fort DeRussy park to the widest part of the beach - barely 10 min - towels from the hotel if we needed, and yes, the fruit water in the lobby - my oldest son would fill up his water bottle with it before setting out each day. If you are a family/couple who has travelled a lot and are 'relaxed' travellers, this is the perfect place. The staff are all friendly and accommodating, rooms were always clean and comfortable, and if you're every grumpy about something, step outside - it's Hawai'i! Yes, valet parking is $25 a day, but that's standard everywhere in Honolulu, and given the cheap price of rentals if you book ahead, it balances out compared to other cities. Every evening we enjoyed the walk down Kalakaua Ave., and the Outrigger Luana is just the right distance away from the truly busy part of this great strip. Never ate in the restaurant as we ate breakfast in the room and usually would eat a late lunch/early dinner out, but it looked more than fine. If we are lucky enough to return or know friends who are going to Oahu, we would definitely recommend the Outrigger Luana.

My friends and I just returned last Thursday. Had a absolutely fabulous stay at the Outrigger Luana. Everyone remembered your name and was extremely friendly. Thanks Rueben!- the walk to the beach and to the Hawaiian Village Hilton was just a short journey. It was worth it for the price the Outrigger charged.as opposed to the Hilton. My friends stayed at the Hilton and their room did not have the amenities we had. I recommend the room with the Kitchenette. Use your AAA card and you can get a nice discount. Aloha! and Mahala!
