“Great view and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We spent 12 days at the Outrigger Luana Waikiki in a studio kitchenette unit. It was clean, well presented and had a terrific view over Fort Derussy park and the sea. Being on the edge of the main Waikiki hub it was for us the perfect location. Close enough to easily use the shuttles and 'the bus' with the shopping and food hub in easy walking distance, but far enough away to not be bothered by the late night crowds. The concierge crew Meena and Matt did a great job on our tours and helped make the Hawaii experience a memorable time.

Room Tip: Studio units have kitchenette so can get food at ABC stores and help conserve food costs.

Good location but:
- room cleaning everyday is poor: floor was not cleaned (still had some sand from the day before I accidentally brought in), cups were left dirty, coffee maker was left with old coffee in it, bathroom was not cleaned. In summary, bed was made and towels folded but that's it.
- internet is dial-up like. The wifi and the cable in my room weren't working. I had to connect to the neighbouring room wifi. I told the reception about that, and basically I had to call the internet provider myself (Oceanic Time Warner). They fixed it the next time, but I still experienced drop outs, poor connection and very slow speed. A major inconvenience for me as I needed for work.
- the a/c is VERY noisy (like those they used to make 30 years ago)
- gym and pool are small.
In summary, make your own opinion, but considering the choice available in Waikiki, I won't be staying here again!

We were there for 12 nights...Absolute fantastic experience, the staff were all very helpful and polite. Nothing was a problem to any of them. The hotel was clean and tidy, the beds were very comfortable. The location of the hotel was far enough from the hussel and bussel to have a very relaxed atmosphere. Would most definatly stay there again.

When we got here we were panicing because hawaiian airlines canceled our reservations but we were saved by Heather here at Outrigger. She solved our problem with excillent customer service which turned out trip around for the better. I would highly recommend this place to others as it very relaxing and a great view of the ocean from our room!

Room Tip: Get and upgraded room. You will be glad you made the decission as the views are perfect!

I stayed in a 1 br with full kitchen for a week. I originally booked a studio kitchenette, so the upgrade was a nice surprise. For the cost, if I would have received the original room, this would have been a 2 dot review. I was in room 907 which had a very nice ocean and city view

The problem, the rooms are incredibly outdated for the price point compared to other, similar hotels in Waikiki.

I'll start with the good though:
- Pleasant front desk and valet staff
- Great ocean and city views from the room
- Less than 5 minute walk to the main shopping on Kalakaua
- The kitchen was fairly well equipped
- Quiet

Now, the not so good:
- This is a condo hotel
- The room decor is more budget rental condo than mid-level hotel
- The kitchen had a fairly strong odor probably coming from the plumbing
- The concierge couldn't help with basic tasks and couldn't assist with retrieving printouts for some reason he tried to explain unsuccessfully
- Walls were shabby and dirty

If the price were about 30% less, I would recommend this for budget travelers, but at the prices they are asking, I would recommend spending $20-30 more for a room at the Outrigger Reef or Waikiki.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms above the 10th floor have a great view of the Friday Hilton fireworks

The room was clean and the staff friendly. The hotel was beside Fort DeRussy park (nice park), and not too far from the beach and Waikiki's shops and restaurants so it was very convenient.

The hotel restaurant offered some of the best breakfast we tried in hawaii. Those açaï bowls had fruits so fresh and tasty !

This hotel is ok, if you are after one of the original Outriggers, which is much older and a bit more run down. A weird set-up with the kitchens. We had a room with a huge kitchen and all the utensils, however no hot plate, microwave, etc. I guess it would be ok if you were bringing food back to the room to make salads, etc.

My main complaint is there wasn't a basic kettle to be able to make a cup of tea. They supplied tea bags, but only a coffee maker. Reception said that it's because we don't have a full kitchen (one of the rooms who do have a hot place, microwave, etc). However, that's even more reason to supply it and if you are going to supply tea bags at least supply a kettle. When we asked reception for one on our first night they said they had "run out". On our last night in from Maui, I complained and they brought one up in 5 minutes. Also, our air conditioning unit was extremely loud - an older model.

I really expected better from an Outrigger hotel.

Room Tip: There are probably better choices around.
