“Pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

We have been to Honolulu many times and have always stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This time we decided to stay at the Marriott and we were not disappointed. Since we were at the other end of the beach, we experienced Honolulu from a totally different perspective. Our room was spacious. Maid service was outstanding. We were able to sunbathe on the balcony of our room and then move to the pool later in the day. Service was personable. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We stayed here a night on our way back to Seattle to break up a long trip.

We arrived at the hotel at around 12 and were told that check-in was at 3pm so we should come back then. We were exhausted from a long flight, and being platinum members, were surprised they couldn't find us something. We waited about 20 mins and lined up again behind a different staff member. She was wonderful and found us a room immediately with a great view.

The room was very spacious with a balcony.

The next morning we went for breakfast, which was included, and there was a huge line to enter the restaurant. If we had known that we would have come down a little earlier as we had a flight to catch.

There is a resort fee at this hotel but it didn't really feel much like a resort. We didn't use any of those facilities so I am not sure what they had to offer in this regard.

Room Tip: If you are planning on having breakfast there, allow plenty of time.

I was there for a conference. Our room was upgraded to one facing the beach. It was a great view from the room. The facilities were nicely decorated with Hawaiian artifacts and in common rooms they played hawaiian music. This allowed you to feel and see the unique culture of the island.

The Waikiki Marriot was a great hotel for our young family (kids 6 and 8). The hotel has two pools and the beach is just across the street (though if you're in the far tower then it is a bit of a walk). We were told we could take our towels to the beach so this helped a lot. The hotel also gave us a cot to use at no cost (typically there is a charge) which was very nice.

Keep in mind the hotel isn't the cheapest and with no kitchenettes, there are definitely cheaper options for your family trip. We had a great breakfast and supper at the Italian restaurant in the hotel but it is pricey. For some cheaper meals, the following are close: Subway, Wolfgang Puck Express, BK. Foodland is about 5 blocks away and they have various hot and cold deli items including sushi. McDonald's $1 ice cream cones is still the best deal. Take a bus to Safeway if you feel like really shopping.

Room Tip: The one tower is a fair ways away from the beach so ask for the tower closer to the beach (if you...

The Marriott makes sure that its visitors understand they have come to a state in the Union which was once a Kingdom. The aloha spirit abounds and infuses everything in this hotel from the registration which includes an orchid for your hair to the extra meticulous housekeeping which is sure to return your frantic call regarding left behind items. The décor is all Hawaiian complete with a spring, a genuine outrigger canoe in the reception area and an abundance of orchids. The history of the location is displayed in the hallway that connects the two residence towers comprising the resort. Perhaps you've come with plans well made, but if you need assistance in exploring Aloha there are several concierge desks for English speakers and other languages as well. The resort has two ABC stores that offer snacks and drinks that are reasonably priced. You'll enjoy the coffee at Seattle's best especially their offering of Kona coffee. On the resort property are several restaurants and a terrace bar and sandwiches which you can enjoy in the evenings complete with excellent entertainment. Finally, the shops offer a browsing experience and temptations -- which in the case of the Hawaiian Accessories are competitively priced and of excellent quality.
One new offering that permits one to finish a vacation in comfort is the resort's "Linger Longer" policy which permits a later checkout on the day of departure should you have a late flight. Don't want to spend the extra 99 dollars? Then take advantage of the complimentary hospitality suite which permits use of the pool, shower, and a place to lounge and watch TV while you await the time to say your reluctant farewell.

Room Tip: Every room has a balcony from which to catch the balmy breezes and a bit of an ocean view.

Jan 2nd - 9th 2014: Room 2967

From the moment I arrived at the Valet Parking to the moment I left, the experience was simply first class. Not a modern day first class that so may hotels have been compromised to providing, but the old fashioned first class. Guests are treated like Gods.

There was not one thing that was sub standard from a first class experience... okay maybe the "free drink tickets" were for something less than what the bartender usually makes. Throw them away and order and pay. The drinks are superior.

The hotel is situated on the south end of Waikiki Beach. Easy to get to from the airport if you use the directions on the Hotel's website. Garmin takes a route shorter in distance but much longer in time.

Room Tip: I am an elite Member. My room was exactly as shown on the site with a balcony overlooking both the b...

I loved my basic room on the 9th floor overlooking the childrens pool. OMG what a view in the morning, afternoon, or evening. the service was great, the rooms are specless and the people are nice. A quick walk across the street to the beach. Hawaii in general is real pricey.

Room Tip: You will have to pay more for a view but its worth it.
