“Definitely not a 4 Star property.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I have spent the last 16 days here. The accommodations were nice, and yes drapes are dated. However, the room was sufficient, clean and comfortable. Hotel is accessibly to the entire Waikiki area by walking. The real issue in my opinion is the all the homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk right outside of the Hotel. This seems to be a major problem for the Waikiki area. I have never seen such a noticeable increase of homeless people in a resort area since our last visit in 2000. Would probably recommend a different Island if you want to avoid this kind of experience on your holiday.

It's not right on the beach, you have to walk across the street to get there. Oh the horror. The beds were very comfortable, the staff was very pleasant and helpful. We had a great view of the ocean, and it was listed as partial view. One day the sunset was spectacular and the staff were pointing it out to the patrons. The staff was even taking pictures of it. The breakfast was good, fairly basic omelet/breakfast bar fare. The bar by the swimming pool was nice and had a fairly good band that played.

Room Tip: Our partial view was great from the balcony, cheaper than full view and still breathtaking.

Hotel was clean and efficient. Rooms were ok, not bad not amazing. Location was good. Across the road from the beach a short walk from the aquarium/zoo or shopping. Service was actually very good, much better than previous Marriott experiences. The staff were friendly and helpful. The concierge desk made our lives much easier.

As a general Hawaii comment, I'm not sure that paying extra for ocean view is really worth it. There is so much to do that spending time sitting on a cramped balcony doesn't seem like a great idea, but that's just a personal view.

In fact my only real objection was to the compulsory 25 US dollar charge they applied every day we stayed. The charge gained us a number of benefits which we would not have chosen to paid for. I booked through hotels.com who mentioned it in the small print rather than the headline cost (more fool me for not paying attention). However, the whole action felt disingenuous, if a charge is compulsory I think it should be included in the upfront price. Had I factored the additional cost in I would have stayed at The Modern instead. I guess this falls into the classic buyer beware situation.

However, that frustration aside, we enjoyed the stay very much and were impressed with the hotel staff.

Stayed at this hotel and we were so disappointed - it is in need of a remodel. Carpet in our room had major stains on it. The drapes were definitely out of date. The bathroom counter and sink were granite but it was chipped. There was stuff on the wall next to the mirror that looked like someone had flossed their teeth - not sure why a maid wouldn't have cleaned it off! Bathroom was small with a bathtub and toilet - tub had nice Grohe fixtures, but the old sliding door was really in sad shape - needed to be sanded and repainted.
Hotel charged us an extra $25.00/day for a resort fee - couldn't seem to find the resort in the hotel. It seems that they are looking for any way to make extra money.
We won't stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms was very noisy from the traffic outside - they need to put double paned windows in the rooms...

My husband and I just returned from a four day stay at this hotel. The accomodations were nice, nothing special. The beds were comfortable, and service was great. Other reviewers noted that the housekeeping staff was a bit intrusive, but we did not find this to be true. If they needed to come back later, they did with no complaints. Bathrooms were a bit dated, but otherwise the decor was fine. Nice furniture on the lanai, or balcony...

Waikiki Beach Marriott was a very comfortable and clean place to stay. We enjoyed the decor and the view of Diamondhead from our lanai. We also had a view of the beach and city. The staff were friendly and inviting. We even received an upgraded room at check-in.
The concierge was also very helpful in suggesting events for us.

My husband and I tayed here as part of our two week vacation. Our trip was totally for pleasure. Marriott was an obvious choice for us to stay on this vacation since the Hilton Hawaiian Village which I love from other visits and Hawaii 5-0 was pricier with limited availability.

Our mini-suite was not all that bad. It wasn't as great as other properties, but it was comfortable and had two balconies.

I upgraded to a junior suite and it had oceanview, but wasn't anything close to an ocean front room. The terms can get confusing at this hotel so make sure you check technicality of the semantics of an ocean view, ocean front, partial ocean view, or city view etc. etc. when checking into this hotel.

There are 2 towers on this property and the second tower, where our room was located is a good city block away from the beach and in most cities would be considered a separate hotel. Both towers are rectangular in shape and look like most other condos on Waikiki. Both of the twin like towers are perpendicular to Waikiki and are across a busy street. The second tower, a good block plus from beach is located behind the first tower (which is still a good distrance from the beach). When you end up in the second tower it is well away from the ocean and the restaurnts and the main area that you may have used for selecting a hotel. Keep in mind, that even though you pay for an oceanview room, you may not get the type of room view that you are expecting. In fact, when in the second tower you might as well stay at the Hilton Waikiki which is simply across the street and not much further from the ocean.

The hotel is of Marriott quality, but not exactly that of a resort you expect to find in Hawaii. The good news is that there was no noise from the other rooms. I did, however, hear the traffic below. Keep in mind that this is a city feel hotel and not a resort feel.

I thought the room service was good and prompt as you would expect from a Marriott quality property.

The pool situation may not matter to a lot of people since the beach is across the street, but we thought the pools were unimpressive, cramped and could be better. It almost felt like a city hotel with a pool on a top floor than a Hawaiian hotel in paradise. Just our perspective.

The front desk is closer to the second tower, which I guess could be considered a benefit. But, the second tower is a hike from the breakfast place. And, there is no concierege floor as you find at the two Hilton properties in town.

The Marriott may be considered a positive location because it is in front of one of the most busy and active parts of Waikiki Beach.

Getting in and out of the Marriott hotel has some challenges because valet parking in off a oneway street and I often felt it a chore coming and going. Those at the valet were cordial, promt, and service oriented. Overall, I feel this Marrriott hotel is more than decent, but not a resort style property.

Given a choice, I would prefer staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village as it feels more like a resort with a quieter pace.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor in the first tower and stay away from the second tower if possible.
