“Paradise with a twist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2014

The Ilikai Hoel and suites is an oceanfront high rise hotel/condominium.
This property has views of the Marina, the Lagoon and the Mountains - hotel rooms or full kitchen rooms. The building rents by private owners or through the hotel chain (Agua). There is a mini supermarket (for that extra snack or whatever), a restaurant, spa, free WI-FI and a pool on the premises. Also the property is within walking distance to a very large shopping mall, two beaches and direct walking into Waikiki via the beach path. There is access to all buses and free trolleys that stop right in front of this property. There are many restaurants within walking distance of this property including a 24 hour coffee shop.
Our large room faced the Marina with a fully equipped kitchen and a large balcony that had afternoon sun and beautiful sunsets. If you want morning sun then take the Lagoon beach side. We rented from the hotel chain directly – prices were reasonable since the room, with the full kitchen, is like a large studio apartment. All floors have a washing machine and dryer for your use.The staff in the lobby was very helpful and nice they even gave us beach chairs and large beach towels (which we could exchange every day for clean towels). Whatever we needed (extra towels, soap, plates, glasses etc) the staff at the hotel went out of their way to get it for us. We were very confortable during our stay.in our renovated room. I highly recommend staying here even if for only a few days.

Room Tip: Ask for an renovated room if renting directly from hotel chain - higher floors have better view on t...

We stayed one night at the Ilikai in March this year, while transiting for Molokai. We had wanted to stay here as it is the hotel featured in Hawaii 5-0 (Jack Lord) Room was on 18th floor, ocean view, very big, clean, bed very comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer as having self catering kitchen would have been useful to us. Hotel location good, easy walking distance to local shops and cafés, marina and beach. Staff very helpful. Only problem we found was as we arrived late - 9 pm - hotel restaurants were closed and we felt too tired after long flight to wander round looking for place to eat. Staff said shop within hotel was open late, and we did find basics, bread and cheese, but very expensive. Pity hotel doesn't have coffee shop which is open late for snacks like sandwiches. But on the whole we would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Rooms facing ocean and marina are the best

We stayed at the Ilikai during December as it was close to the start of the Honolulu marathon. We rented an apartment / condo through Waikiki Oceanfront rental and had no problem with our booking or arrival. We were given a pin code to let ourselves in to our apartment so be aware you will get no assistance from the front desk of the hotel. The building has a combination of privately owned condos and hotel rooms so make sure you choose wisely.

Pros: our apartment was newly renovated and had a full kitchen. This made it very easy for us to prepare our own food if we had enough of going out. The view from the balcony was fantastic and the chairs very comfortable. The room had everything we expected including free wifi, shopping trolley and fully equipped kitchen.

We enjoyed the pool area even though it is looking a bit tired. I believe they are building a new pool. The hotel also had some nice restaurants, spa and small supermarket. The biggest plus of the Ilikai is how close it is to the Ala Moana mall. We were in Hawaii to shop and this place was enormous.

Cons: The Ilikai is at the very start of the Waikiki strip and it was a fairly decent walk (in the hot weather) up to the main area of Waikiki. This wasn't a huge drama as the buses and trolleys stopped at the front of the hotel.

Overall, I would highly recommend the accommodation but make sure you know if you are booking a privately owned condo and check if it has been renovated.

Room Tip: I would recommend selecting a room on the marina side for great views over the water (Room 2106 was...

Just spent 8 nights at the Ilikai in an Ocean front 2 bedroom apartment on the 22nd floor. Fantastic location, great view, great staff and clean and comfortable rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel anytime. We liked the location as it was close enough to walk into central Waikiki but also just far enough to get way and relax from the crowds. The bar and grill on the ground floor serves great meals and good cocktails, a great spot to spend some time. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an oceanfront room.

We stayed at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites for 8 nights in April and we were very happy with our choice. We had a two bedroom suite for 4 adults and it was large and roomy with a kitchen with a full size fridge also full size dining suite with 6 chairs. The room was ocean view and it certainly was overlooking the lagoon and the ocean and we got a good view of the fireworks Friday night. The beds were very very comfortable the bathrooms (2) were large and roomy. The hotel is 50 years old and it is a little dated in spots but they are renovating and our room had granite bench tops and large sink a 4 burner electric stove with oven which made having breakfast and light meals easy to make and enjoy on the 2 balconies 1 in the living area and one for the master bedroom. All in all we were very happy the cleaning staff did a great job everyday the reception staff were excellent and very knowledgeable and the valets did a great job with looking after our car and bringing it up for us to the main reception every time. The location was perfect out of the busy and noisy Waikiki Beach area but close enough to walk to. There is a large shopping mall about 10 minutes away the Ala Moana Mall and also an ABC grocery store across the road. When looking I compared the price per night of this hotel to others for the same amenities but could not find the same for the same price. I would recommend this hotel for sure and will return to the Ilikai.

Room Tip: Spend the extra amount to have ocean view so much nicer than the mountain view

We recently stayed here in a two bedroom ocean front room booked directly through the hotel. As many others have mentioned, the rooms are a little tired and in need of a face lift. But for us we found it to be clean and comfortable and the price was right compared to other hotels in the area.
Our room had 2 balconies - one with the most amazing view of the ocean and was the perfect spot to watch the Friday fireworks. The other was a marina / city view and nothing overly special. The second bedroom does face that side and got a fair bit of garbage truck noice in the morning.
We also had a massive lounge and a decent kitchen. My only advice would be that bar fridges are not appropriate for 2 bedroom apartments as you can't do a big enough shop to be able to cook for a few days. The bathroom in the main bedroom was huge but for some reason had the tiniest bath / shower I have ever seen. With the shower curtain pulled across I actually felt a bit claustraphobic!!
The pool area is small and desperately needs to be redone. Having said that, we got the beach towels and chairs from hotel reception and spent most of our days at either the Hilton Lagoon or the beach.
All in all, if you know not to expect 5 star luxury, you wont be disappointed. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others but tell them what to expect.

Room Tip: Book an ocean front room - you wont be disappointed.
