“A Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We booked a newly remodeled condo in the Ilikai to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It was much more than we anticipated. The hotel concierge and bellman were so helpful. There are several elevators so we never waited long. The public rooms in the Ilikai are open and breezy with lots of comfy sofas, tables and chairs. The bar and grill is a very reasonably priced option for a meal or snack. Every night the torch lighter blows the conch shell and lights each torch around the patio area. There is live entertainment some evenings.
The Ilikai is on the north end of Waikiki next door to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but it is much quieter and less congested that the rest of Waikiki. We LOVED it!

Room Tip: The higher floors facing full west have amazing views at sunrise and sunset.

My partner, daughter and I stayed here for 6 nights early in October in a 1 bedroom facing the Lagoon on the 21st floor booked through Waikiki Beach Rentals. Amazingly the location is very quiet of a night and the view is fantastic with the opportunity to watch the fireworks each Tuesday and Friday night. Lifts are excellent and fast. Pool is great and nearby Lagoon is excellent for novice standup paddle boarders. However I do agree with other posts in that our room was due for a revamp as everything was beginning to look and feel a little tired and well worn and the bed and pillows really needed replacing. Kitchen utensils were rather light on as well, not really keeping with the 'aloha' spirit of things. On another note I did feel as though we were out of things a bit too much however the upside as I mentioned previously was the quietness and also short walk to Ala Moana Shopping Centre and Beach Park.

Room Tip: Lagoon side high up to avoid noise and heat.

Aloha,
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay in one of the condos of the Ilikai and shared you comments on need for renovations. The "hotel rooms" in the building are currently undergoing a complete modernizing and if you prefer full service with updated furnishings and equipment may consider choosing to stay with us next stay.

I booked 2 rooms. One for my wife and I, the other for my in-laws. Everyone loved the location. The rooms are probably due for a refresh within the next 5 years but they are very nice. The pool area and beach/lagoon access are perfect. The patio bar restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, fun time and a good deal.

We booked a high floor mountain view hotel room for two nights before our cruise on 28 Sept, and booked a marina view condo through Waikiki Beach Rentals for six nights after the cruise.

Hotel: We chose the high floor mountain view room primarily because we were only there for two nights and thought the lights at night would be pretty. We were right, the evening view was very pretty and we were treated to a stunning sunrise in the morning. However, we would choose an oceanview room in future because the traffic noise from the lanai was very unpleasant. Closing the door completely deadened the noise so sleeping wasn’t a problem, but having breakfast and drinks on the lanai wasn’t relaxing. Opt for the $10 per night high floor upgrade, the views are well worth the extra cost. Our room on the 25th floor was very spacious and comfortable, although a little tired looking. The rooms will be fabulous after the current upgrade is finished. We would happily stay here again for location, atmosphere and value for money – it’s next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, a nice area of town and a good place to wander around for an evening stroll, and it is an easy and pleasant walk to either Ala Moana, the beach, the Ala Moana Reserve lagoon or the heart of Waikiki.

Condo: We’d stayed in the same condo (2006) the previous year and absolutely loved the unit and the view over the marina. A minor grizzle is that glassware consisted of numerous chunky glass and plastic tumblers, one cracked flute and no wine glasses, there wasn’t a single teaspoon in the unit, and the towels varied greatly in quality, some were very good but others were extremely thin - more attention should be paid to these things. Having said that, the unit is very spacious, clean and comfortable, the furnishings are attractive, the location is great and the views from the unit are stunning, so we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. We were kindly given a free early check in after disembarking the ship (which can be arranged the day before if the unit is unoccupied prior to your check in). This was a great bonus for us, and we found Scott to be very efficient and pleasant to deal with throughout.

Tip – if you need groceries, you can get a 5% discount at Foodland (at Ala Moana) if you give them your phone number (we gave the hotel’s phone number), and if you shop at Macys, ask for their tourist discount card, which gives you a 10% discount on purchases.

The Hilton puts on a stunning firework display on Tuesday and Friday evenings, around 7.45pm – well worth popping down to the Hilton Lagoon for a ringside view.

The bar & grill downstairs is very reasonably priced, the food is good and it’s a great location with a lovely outlook.

All in all we had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others.

Room Tip: We love a high floor marina view as you get a very expansive view and beautiful sunsets. If booking...

The room size made a huge difference. We didn't feel cramped at all. 2 beds, one full size sofa, 1 single lounge chair, a coffee table, desk, bureau, full-size kitchen...great! I usually stay at another local favorite a couple of blocks away but will switch to the Ilikai; price is comparable for a lot more. Another perk was the friendly and accommodating staff. I saw a washer and dryer in the ice room which would be a bonus for a longer trip.
All in all, a very pleasant stay!

A few words about our wonderful stay at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites in Waikiki Beach, Oahu. I live on the east coast (Atlantic Ocean side) of Canada so travelling to Hawaii is a long day of flying. I have visited Oahu once before but this time my husband and I decided to take a cruise from Ensenada, Mexico across the Pacific where we could visit several Hawaiian islands before disembarking in Honolulu. The cruise was great but part of our plan was to stay at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites in Waikiki. I was really looking forward to another visit at the Ilikai. It is one of my favourite hotels.
My daughter and her family found the Ilikai some years back and passed on the good news to me. I stayed there in 2010 for 10 days and this recent trip, with my husband, was a four night stay once we left the cruise ship in the port of Honolulu.
I was very happy to be going back to the Ilikai because I knew from my previous vacation that it would be top notch and not the least bit stressful. The hotel has a homey atmosphere with friendly staff and a comfortable feeling that allows you to relax the minute you walk into the lobby.
There are a number of shops in the hotel where you can spend time browsing, buying some beautiful Hawaiian fashions or obtaining articles you might have forgotten at home. The Ilikai has a wonderful outdoor/indoor cafe/restaurant which offers a good variety of menu items and drinks. Friday night there is always a wonderful Hawaiian band and hula dancers to entertain you while you dine or enjoy a drink under the starry sky.
On Tuesday and Friday nights along the beach there is a great display of fireworks which adds to the entertainment found in the area.
Our room, located on the 25th floor, was spacious and sunny with a magnificent view of the Ala Moana Beach Park and the local yacht club which is only a short walk. This beach and park area caters to people who have physical challenges and has a number of wheelchair walkways. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the sand and surf in a lovely family park atmosphere. The concierge at the hotel was more than helpful setting up our car rental. She will arrange any type of tour or adventure you want to enjoy. The office wall is filled with information on things to do while visiting Honolulu and the island of Oahu. We used the concierge to reserve our rented car which has an office located right across the street from the hotel in a small shopping centre. There are lots of small restaurants nearby with a variety of foods from around the world. Most of these restaurants and cafes have a daily happy hour each evening from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m and then there is the fast food chains if you happen to be in a hurry and want to grab a bite on the go.
Not far from the hotel (about a 15 minute walk) is the Ala Moana Mall which has 290 stores and is open seven days a week. This beautiful mall offers something for everyone.
Right outside the hotel door is the city bus stop and for $2.50 you can ride anywhere you want. There are also a number of hop on/hop off trolley stops in front of the hotel.
If you want to walk to the central area of Waikiki Beach down near the International Market it would take about 45 minutes. It is a lovely walk that passes beautiful parks and lots of wonderful shops, restaurants and other hotels. If you have your own car the Ilikai's valet service will look after you.
The Ilikai Hotel offers beautiful spacious rooms with large comfortable beds. The feature I enjoyed the most was the large patio sliding doors and windows as well as the lovely balconies. We had a wall of glass which gave us a spectacular view of the yacht club, the cruise ships coming and going and sunsets that were out of this world. We also had a small bar refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker. We usually had morning coffee and then went downstairs for breakfast.
Having the beautiful park just a short walk away makes you feel you are not really in a big city but in a more rural setting. The park and beach are excellent for those who enjoy a morning or late afternoon swim and it is also great for walkers and those wishing to jog.
The Ilikai Hotel also offers a number of suites equipped with a full kitchen, living room/dining area and two bedrooms so it is a hotel with a lot of options and worth checking out. We had a wonderful time and are already considering going back. I have passed on all my Ilikai information to my friends who want to visit Honolulu and who want to have a great place to stay. Staying at the Ilikai is a win, win situation.

Room Tip: I think all the views from the Ilikai Hotel are great but looking over the ocean I think is the best...
