“nice hotel but very average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

The hotel stay itself was nice but things seem to be outdated a bit at the Ilikai. It is hard when you are staying near some of the other hotels that have really nice inviting pool areas or nice shops in the main level but honestly the Ilikai had everything we needed. The valet group was so quick and very nice when we came and went. It was expensive but it was welcomed having to not park our car after long days of sightseeing and watching the soccer tournament. Ilikai felt very safe too.

Room Tip: we loved the view of the Marina. you got to see the sun set as well! Our friends stayed on the Hil...

The Ilikai Hotel was such an outstanding stay for our family of five. We stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom suite with a wonderful view. Access to the cove and beaches were great; and you had "excutive seats" to view the weekly Friday fireworks right there. The amenities were great to include the shops nearby. Easy access to Waikiki. Management and staff were sooo accomodating and friendly; and made us feel as though we were all a true Ohana! Thank you all for a wonderful stay!!

We decided on the Ilikai Hotel for our 15 day vacation after reading all the great reviews about the property, it also had a fantastic location with a 2 minute walk down to the beach and lagoon, and marina right out the back. Bus stop right outside, and its own Bar and grille down stairs. We booked thru http://rentalsinwaikiki.com/company.php with Dainora, and she put us in a fantastic condo #1225, WOW .. what a perfect location, the view from the balcony facing the beach was awesome. The value for money was second to none with full kitchen, nice bathroom, huge bed, Tv, dining suite, clean and tidy. We saved $800 NZD booking thru her compared to other websites ! Anyway, the Hotel was great. The staff were friendly and helpfull, the food at the grille was excellent. We used the booking desk down stairs and Cathryn was fantastic and helped us plan and book 3 excursions. Concierge services were friendly and they had luggage storage all day until we flew out that night which we really appreciated. Couldnt have got a better value for money stay ... A definate option for accomodation in waikiki

From the moment we opened the door to Condo 1938 we were thrilled. The condo was fresh and clean, with a lot of thoughtful touches to make one feel right home. Plenty of storage and a really comfy bed. (Lovedt he linen too!) Plenty of bath towels, beach towels and beach gear. So many more utensils and appliances than you would get in a hotel room.
The view was amazing, we spent many happy hours relaxing on the balcony with a beer and a cocktail or two. If I was feeling lazy I could watch my husband surfing from the lanai, and the grandkids playing in the lagoon! The night lights of the city and the Luau next door on some evenings were great to enjoy at night.
We enjoyed a few meals at the Ilikai Bar and Grill downstairs, and walked a few times into Waikiki for beach, shopping and restaurants. We also caught the $2 trolley to Waikiki which stops right out the front of the Ilikai. The foyer and amentities of the Ilikai are beautiful, and checkin was so easy....just jump in the lift and use the keypad to enter the condo! We checked out a lot of accomodation options for our first trip to Hawaii, so glad we chose this condo as it is really good value for money, as well as a great place to stay. Thanks to our hosts for giving us this wonderful opportunity!!

Room Tip: We loved the view over the lagoon.

Ilikai 822 was another perfect unit from Aloha Condos. I was on Oahu for work and the Ilikai is always my first choice while there. If you require the Four Seasons, you better pay and stay there. With that said the Ilikai is a great property it has the resort feel without the crowds. The Condo was clean and updated. Had everything I needed for both business and pleasure. Booking was easy and efficient. Parking no problem. The View outstanding.
You won't be disappionted with Ilikai 822.

Great place to stay - very clean and comfortable. Easy walking distance to everything. Staff very helpful. We stayed in the privately owned condos through hawaii vacation properties who were extremely helpful.

Nice condo and recommended if you want an inexpensive place to stay for a week.

Firstly, I HIGHLY recommend buying a book called ‘Oahu Revealed’. Search for it on Amazon – it gives you lots of tips and information about Oahu.

The trip was pleasant but the first few hours were a little stressful. This unit uses the Schlag electronic lock and the combination on the check-in document was incorrect, or the battery in the lock was ‘dying’. Thanks goodness for the house cleaner, Ala, who walked by the room just as we tried to enter the unit. She was nice enough to assist us in opening the door.

Once we opened the door, we were stunned to see the room was a mess. The unit was not clean. Again, Ala contacted the house cleaning department and they sorted everything out within 2 hours. We left our bags in the unit and took a drive down Waikiki. When we returned, the room was almost perfect. Plus, the view from the balcony was awesome, exactly as the pictures described it on the website.

The building itself was decent but a little dated. The elevators were clunky but it worked. The room was upgraded but the balcony sliding doors definitely needed some work. It was not easy to slide the doors back and forth, and it was squeaky.

We rented a SUV (Chevy Traverse) and paid $28/night for valet parking with ‘in and out’ privileges. Valet parking was definitely pricy but absolutely worth it if you plan on renting a car. The valet drivers were really nice and friendly too. Don’t even think about trying to find parking on the streets or metered parking. You will probably stress yourself out and ruin your entire trip. The other option is to park in the first building west of the ilikai – that is the left side when you exit the main ilikai entrance on Ala Moana Blvd. By the way, we rented our car from JN rental for $777/wk. The cost included taxes, fees, and basic insurance coverage. JN rental will pick you up and drop you off at the airport too. With 8 people in our party, it was like herding cows. Therefore, we felt it was cheaper to rent an 8 person SUV versus a 7 person van. Driving around Waikiki is not as difficult and others had described. It’s really no different to driving in a big US city. The biggest tip is to ensure you have Google maps going whenever you are in the vehicle, AND be sure you have an attentive co-pilot - super important.

Meals - this is one area we lacked in our plan. There are lots of restaurants but we struggled every night to find a decent place. All I can say is stay away from Makittii buffet and don’t get sucked in when you see their coupon. Their ‘seafood’ buffet is abysmal, horrible and terrible. The food is lukewarm, horrible sushi – just nasty stuff.

If you want to relax with a drink in your hand and sit in a comfortable place, go to the Shore Bird at the Outrigger Reef. It is super relaxing and the Mai Tais are $3.50 during happy hour. Btw, happy hour starts at noon!

Tours - we did the Dole tour – interesting and pleasant. Awesome pineapple ice cream and great gift shop.

Pearl Harbor was great and touching. If you do plan to visit this location, get your tickets online at least 4 to 5 months BEFORE your tip. Otherwise, your options are to be at the Pearl Harbor visitor center BEFORE 7am and pay $7.50/person for the USS Arizona tour. It is a self-guided audio tour. The last option is to buy a Pearl Harbor tour packages at your hotel or one of the ExpediaTours desk. Be sure to ask for the guided USS Missouri.

** One important tip about self guided tours – get to your destination early.

All in all we had an awesome trip.

Room Tip: choose the side that faces the Hilton Luau - same side as room 1704.
