“Great views from the 24th floor, suite was larger than expected.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Our 2 bedroom suite had fantastic views over the ocean and marina. The location is close to the Ala Moana shopping centre and within walking distance of all that Waikiki has to offer. We were there for a family wedding and the suite was a perfect setting for the wedding party to get prepared in with a hairdresser and makeup artist attending the party in our suite and all of the family returning after the wedding. The reception was held at the roof top Sarento restaurant on Friday night with the fireworks providing a perfect back drop to a perfect day. Friendly staff, comfortable beds and spacious suite.

We were here for a convention and this hotel not only priced well, but located centrally.
The concierge was the best, helping find a rental car and offering advice on places to see.
It is a very clean property, and has a great staff running the hotel.
we were within walking distance of the Ala Moana shopping center (great selection of stores)and the Hawaiian convention center.
Also near the lagoon, and a great walking path near the beach.
Just a nice place to stay, for all ages.
We were also surprised to find that the masseuse (wonderful)was also a physical therapist, offering great advice in addition to a wonder massage.

Room Tip: Call ahead if an ocean view is important....

Stayed for 7 nights in unit 1530.The unit was very well equipped and had lots of staples and there was plenty of space for our belongings.( It would have been nice to have had a dishwasher.) The location was outstanding and the view from the lanai was superb. We loved seeing the Luau every night at the Hilton and we had front row seats for the Friday fireworks. We loved the Ilikai and enjoyed the hotel grounds.
We did have a rental car for our stay and would never do that again because of the parking fees. The best deal is to park at the Marina lot if you come with a car.
The only negative was that the Ilikai pool was always crowded. Over 7 days we could never get a chair at the pool. We felt fortunate that our unit was equipped with beach chairs, etc so we headed to the beach each day instead.
Looking forward to a return visit.

We liked the Ilekai and would come back there. It is conveniently located and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are a little dated and could use an upgrade...especially the kitchen area (if you get one), but it was nice to have; especially for breakfasts. If you're in town for a convention, it has good access on foot and very easy even to walk all the way to Diamond Head (which we did several times. The restaurant at the top (Sorrento) was also very, very good although a bit pricey, but the view is nice and the service, again very pleasant and helpful. The food was also excellent and you get a discount if you're a hotel guest. Its a very short and almost traffic-free walk to the beach and lagoon just behind the hotel. We came away thinking it was a very worthwhile and good experience.

Room Tip: ask for the renovated rooms facing the ocean. The front is on a very noisy and busy avenue. We lik...

We think this is the best location in Honolulu. It's away from the craziness of Waikiki, but only a short walk away if you want to get into the tourist scene. And it's walking distance or a short bus ride to all the interesting things that Honolulu has to offer. The Ala Moana Center is only about a 10 minute walk and our favorite store, Don Quijote, is only another 5 minutes.

The hotel has a nice swimming pool and exercise room. The hotel also has a very nice coffee shop with good sandwiches for lunch. The Ilikai Grill has good, reasonable priced food and drinks and live music every night in a great outdoor (mostly covered) setting. And of course there is Sorentos at the top of the Ilikai with fantastic views, good food and drink at fair prices. There is also a convenience store with a variety of items, mostly reasonably priced.

The lobby and courtyard are really comfortable and the staff makes you feel really welcome.

The beach outside the Hilton and Fort Derussy is only a couple of minutes away and is probably the best beach in Waikiki. Even closer is the lagoon, which is great for kids. For serious swimming and a beautiful uncrowded beach, you can't beat Ala Moana Beach, a short walk in the other direction. There are probably 100 places to eat within walking distance of the Ilikai. The city bus system works well and we don't feel there is a need for a car, if you stay at the Ilikai.

We've stayed at probably a half dozen places in Waikiki and the Ilikai is by far the best. The rooms we've stayed in (the ocean side) are quiet enough to leave to lanai doors open all night (we seldom use the A/C)

Room Tip: The higher floors on the ocean side have incredible views of the lagoon and the ocean or the marina...

We stayed for 8 nights in unit 1115 of Ilikai in December 2012 and booked through WaikikiOceanfrontRentals.com. We liked the room. Everything was like in the pictures from the website, so there were no surprises. We are a family of 4 (kids 14 and 20). The king bed was comfortable with nice linens. The sofa was comfortable and firm also. I slept 2 nights on it, and didn’t feel the frame or lumps.
Room has a lot of closet space, and the bathroom is small, but in good condition.
The kitchen had everything we needed. I think the pans were replaced since last review of this room in 2011(they all are in very good condition), but kitchen faucet is still dripping. Kitchen also had a toaster, tea pot, electrical oven, blender, a lot of plates, glasses, cups, and silverware.
I brought tea, coffee, and oatmeal from home. Plastic ice packs helped keep our snacks and water cool at the beach. We brought a small lunch box (the same as kids take to school). I wish I brought a travel size bottle of vegetable oil and about the same amount of detergent. The smallest you can buy is still very big for one week. There is laundry room on every floor. $2.50 for washing or drying, we used it a couple of times.
We did grocery shopping at FoodLand by the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. It is an easy 10 minute walk there, and we took a cab back. I think it was $7. You can give your phone number during check out in FoodLand to get a discount on your groceries.
The hotel location is great. It’s only a 5 minute walk to the beach. We liked to go past the Hilton to the Fort DeRussy Beach(more space and less people). We stayed on the beach by the restaurant with blue umbrellas. This is Hale Koa military hotel. They have good food: burgers, chicken, salads. Everything is about $5 and no tax.
We did snorkeling right on the beach, a little to the right of the military hotel when you’re looking at the ocean. There aren’t too many fish, but we saw some and also a turtle.
We ate breakfast every morning on our balcony. This room has a very nice city view, and you can see mountains between the buildings, and also several rainbows.
One day, we felt like we had too many left overs. So our friends, who stayed in Room 1607, and us brought food, plates and silverware downstairs (there is space with tables and an ocean view outside), and ate our dinner outside.
Otherwise, we ate dinner at many different restaurants:
Bubba Gump (good shrimp, catch of the day, other food was oily, not very good).
Yard House – great food, great service.
Ocean House – very expensive. It said in the review, this place has big portions, good portions to share. Also their menu says the same, but portions are regular size and it’s not enough to share. Service is very slow, and the food is not good.
Right next door to Ocean House is Shore Bird Restaurant (ocean view). You have to grill your food yourself, but everything comes pre-packaged with spices, and the chef helps you. Food was really great, and grilling was really fun. All 6 of us liked our choices. They have a salad buffet included with many different options.
Kaiwa - very good Japanese food. Good sushi and sashimi, good salads and fish dishes. Great service..
We rented a car for one day and went kayaking on the Kahana River. There are 3 car rental places in the Discover building just across the street from the hotel, but neither of them had a car that could fit 6 people. We ended up renting a car in a small place on the same street as Ilikai going toward Hilton. Renting a car for one day was very expensive. This also may be because it was during the holiday season.
You really don’t need a car in Waikiki, but if you take a bus, remember busses are very slow. They stop every 10 seconds. It takes forever to get anywhere. It took us 1.5 hour to get from Pearl Harbor.
We used taxis a lot. It was about $45 to Pearl Harbor, $45 to Hanauma Bay, and $15 to Diamond Head.
I will definitely recommend the Ilikai condos. We had a great stay and great vacation. This place is very good for families with kids, and everybody who wants to save money on food. It is also in great proximity to the beach, stores and night live
