These comments are regarding the Bar & Grill. Ever since it changed to Da Big Kahuna staff in early 2012, the quality of service, attitude, food, and atmosphere has decreased 100%.
The girls working there dress (AND ACT) more like strippers than waitresses. The majority of them have absolutely NO service industry skills; i.e., walking past customers 3-4 times before acknowledging them, joking at the bar with their boyfriends that visit instead of checking on their customers, and forgetting parts of the order.
These girls will tell you that they prefer working at Da Big Kahuna bar because that's where the tips are. They say NONE of them want to work at the Ilikai bar & grill and their work performance makes this painfully obvious. At any given time, 3-6 of the 10 bar stools are occupied by waitresses/waiters taking breaks, getting extremely drunk after work, or watching TV before work. They should not be taking up the barstools on their breaks.
I witnessed a family walk out when a half-naked waitress with her foot on the bar, who said she had finished her shift, was drunk and eating sloppily at the bar, who then leaned her head back and let out a huge belch. Not only didn't the manager or barmaid tell her to leave, they laughed along with her and kept feeding her shots. I've seen several waitresses finish their shift and get sloppy drunk at the bar, using loud profanity and rude mannerisms. Although they are off-duty, they continuously walk behind the bar to pour themselves shots and other drinks.
A couple of weeks ago, one of the bartenders was drinking with the Ilikai security lead, and he had several personal mini bottles of alcohol lined up on the bar that they proceeded to drink with mixers from behind the bar. I've seen the Ilikai security lead and other Ilikai security staff drinking with the bar & grill staff on more than one occasion. I am a Security Manager, so I understand how unprofessional this is and how much liability it creates for the Ilikai hotel.
As a final note, the local musicians they bring in to play should be stopped. Their wires are all over the place, they are in the way, and their amps are either too loud or sound blown. Families want to hear themselves talk when they eat there and people at the bar (when they can wrestle a stool away from the staff) want to watch the televisions. I understand they are trying to create a Hawaiian ambience, but people on vacation already know they're in Hawaii and I believe would rather eat without having their eardrums tortured.
The bar & grill had much better service, better food, and was more family oriented under the previous owners.
