“Ilikai review 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

What can I say........well wow is a start!
My wife and I stayed here in August and it was amazing beautiful hotel fantastic staff especially Kara who worked in the bar she was so lovely and polite,
The hotel was not 5 star but it was very clean and tidy and the staff are fantastic and very friendly our maid was brilliant she changed the beds every day and was very nice and had time to talk to us. The first night we went next door to the Hilton and used the bar and grill, this was the first and last time we did. Apart from the cocktails the food and service were not great for a 5star joint, oh and then there's the price $18 for 2 pints of lager I nearly died!
The next night we stayed in our hotel and used the ilikai bar and grill very comfy, nice food, great service and boy was it cheaper!
The shop in the hotel is very good selling gifts, food and drink so you can stock up in your room we did this and it saved a lot of money on breakfasts and dinners, we ate out most nights using the vouchers we were given when we checked in however we still found the ilikai bar and grill better.
The hotel is in a great position and you have the choice of pool, lagoon or Waikiki beach.
On an evening the sunsets are amazing from the balcony but for the best sunsets you need to ask for a room on the side the sunsets although to be honest if you have a high room you should have a nice view.
There is a gym which was never over crowded and had everything you needed for a quick workout.
On an evening you can walk down Waikiki beach to the duke's statue then walk down the Main Street and look in all the fantastic shops and restaurants, we loved the Hard Rock Cafe, best one i have ever been in by a country mile and then some!!!
All in all if your looking for a nice clean comfortable friendly hotel I would highly recommend the Ilikai.
Ps strongly advise on car hire to see the rest of this fantastic island and its far cheaper to book it through the hotels concierge service who are very very knowledgable

Room Tip: If you want to watch the brilliant free fire works display on a Friday night you need a room with a...

We had a large room on the 22nd floor (paid 9$/night extra for this) with a balcony and a great view (though partially obstructed by the Hilton) view of Waikiki beach. The hotel itself is on the north/west edge of Waikiki with easy access to the Ala Moana Shopping Mall. The rate we paid was much less than what other well reviewed hotels in the area seemed to be charging and we booked directly with the hotel. We also paid 25$/day +tips for valet parking to save time and hassle with less expensive options.

Ironically, the Waikiki area was of little interest to us, so we would usually leave the area in the morning. This ended up working well because we were usually going against the flow of traffic.

This is a large hotel with lots of people, so everything feels a bit rushed and hectic, but I think that's normal for the area.

Let me start off by stating, this was the first time we had rented a condo, so we were a little apprehensive about the differences of being a hotel guest. We are people who plan ahead, and so we didnt really require information from anyone in the hotel/didnt use concierge desk for anything. The hotel itself was nice. Anyone we did talk to, just walking around, was able to direct us toward the nearest xyz etc. The lobby level has shops, a convenience type store with some groceries, souvenirs, straw mats, towels, toiletries, postcards etc, the Ilikai Bar and Grill, their outdoor pool is down a walkway, beach access etc. We didnt use the pool because the beach was so close we couldnt resist sitting on the beach and being able to swim in the ocean, with Diamond Head in the background! The hotel also has Sarentos restaurant at the top of the hotel which is one of Waikiki's top restaurant and is known for their view. There is an ABC (or 12) across the street for groceries as well, so we stocked up on our weeks needs when we got there).
We did get food to go one night from the Ilikai Bar and Grill and also dined there (its outdoors, and half of it is also covered) and thought our food was great both times.

Our actual room was great. Took us a second to figure out how to open the door, but once we were in, we were happy. The condo is updated; the kitchenette is tiny but the same size as ours in NY. Granite countertops, new appliances, all utensils provided for what you would need to prepare all meals inside. The majority of our days we had breakfast in our room, made lunch to take with us and ate dinner out somewhere else. Thats what we like to do on our trips and it was nice to be able to do that with more than a tiny hotel table, with a tiny fridge, limiting your options. The couch in the living area was nice, with a coffee table to lounge and watch tv in the morning or late at night. The bathroom was updated and had a rack of towels, including beach towels. The bed was so comfortable, we passed out everynight. From the lanai you have a beach view, pool view, and Hilton Hawaiian villages luau view. You can hear it a little at night, but it wasnt bothersome at all. A few nights we went out for a little while and watched different pieces. The view of the fireworks on Friday night, were great.

All the information that you need is emailed to you within hours of booking, and there is also information provided to you when you get in the room with details for wifi, pool, restaurant recommendations etc. It was a really pleasant experience to rent the condo and I would definitely recommend it through waikiki oceanfront rentals. Mahalo.

We have stayed at Ilikai several times booking through various means. This time we used AlohaCondos.com to book #1639. This was the nicest room we have rented. It is updated with granite counters, stainless steel full-sized applicances, tile floors and bathroom and is just as the photos show it. Aloha Condos and the owner made the process very easy and quick, no hassles. Everything we needed was available in the unit from dishes and cookware to beach chairs and towels. Be aware that if you book directly with the owners, you will not have access to some services at the Ilikai, but this owner provided pool passes and phone numbers for contacting services such as maintenance if the need were to arise.

The view is over the marina which is our favorite - great sunsets, but you do need to go down to see the Friday night fireworks as you can't see them from this room (go lagoon view if you want to see them). What you can see from this room is the Modern Honolulu next door. The view of their pools is nice, but we also noticed several people who didn't think they needed to close their drapes while in their underwear. One blonde lady did all her packing in a black bra and thong on Sunday night. It was hard not to notice.

The Ilikai is close to shopping, restaurants and the city bus so we don't rent a car when on Oahu. We usually shuttle to and from the airport and use the bus for everything else. This trip we found a great luggage storage service for our extra suitcases while we spent a couple days "island-hopping." Cliff at BeachBum.com was recommended by the Best Western and we will VERY HAPPY with his service. He picked up our luggage at one hotel, stored it for two days and delivered it to the Ilikai all for less than it would have cost to take it with us!!! What a time and hassle saver he was!!

This is the condo that we will try to get for our next trip to Honolulu. I actually thought maybe I shouldn't give it such a good review because it will always be booked.

Room Tip: Marina view for sunsets, Lagoon view for fireworks, city views for just looking at buildings. Highe...

We stayed in room 2129 which was privately rented by waikiki oceanfront rentals. I spent some time before booking looking at reviews and chose this particular unit for its high floor and view. The room was a large studio with a full kitchen which was plenty adequate for the 4 nights we were there, We made breakfast and had happy hours on the balcony but dined out each night. The view was wonderful but the panels across the balcony made it difficult to sit and look out. We squeezed the chairs up by the AC unit and could just about see around then when sitting down. This was a bit of a disappointment to me as the whole choice had hinged around the view and it was a bit misleading on the website. Standing up, the view was magnificent, out towards the airport, overlooking the marina and we saw awesome sunsets every night. The general condition of the room was okay, flat screen TV, reasonable bathroom but there wasn't much storage space and the flimsy wicker draw unit almost unusable. The pool was small but quite nice and the Hilton Lagoon and the sea close enough for a swim in more natural surroundings. It was a bit of a hike to the centre, which we didn't mind, although it was starting to get a bit tedious by the fourth day. This end of Waikiki is much quieter, depends on which you prefer, it is an easy walk to the Ala Moana Mall. Overall, it was good value for the money we paid and I would probably stay there again if we return to Waikiki.

My wife & I stayed here for only one night prior to boarding the Pride of America cruise. I chose this hotel because it was the first to reply to my email which I sent to 4 other hotels in the area. I had requested that our luggage be stored during the day of our arrival from Sydney (at 8.00 am) and their reply confirmed that our room would be ready at that time. Amazing. More amazing - it was!! and on the top floor, lagoon view!! Great location for a day of shopping at Ala Moana and Roger Dunn Golf shop (10 minute walk); easy walk to the beach. Concierge suggested Chinatown for dinner (try Indigo restaurant for great local fare). We didn't use the hotel's restaurants, so I can't comment. One problem, the water condensing from the air con dripped on the carpet all night - the staff were notified in the morning. If we were to stay longer, I would have made sure it was fixed. The hotel room was showing its age; the bedroom more than average size but the bathroom was tiny and the air con was noisy. Next time we would like to stay longer, despite the hotel being out of the main part of town

Stayed for 18 days great location. Close to everything but still away from the main Waikiki area. We rented a condo through VRBO. You are next door to the Hilton where the best beach is and only a 5 min walk
