Need shoes with good tread because it's slippery when you come down. Over 1,000 steps to the top. There is a section where the dirt has washed away, about 100 yards, that you basically climb up in mid air. My 9 year old and I followed a Local and walked up the path around to the right. The steps in the air were too wide for his legs. Bring water as it gets hot. This used to be some kind of military look out in WWII. And the tracks very built not for a funicular, but for transport of supplies to the top. The view is incredible. Once at the top, go to the other side of the cement structure for the incredible view of the East side of Oahu. From the top, you can also see Hanauma Bay.
Lots of Locals come here for exercise. Coming down, be careful of the lose soil on the cement steps. Very slippery.
There are restrooms in the park at the base and also a playground.
