I went for the diamond head tour and the Manoa waterfall hike, and both were led by Ross, who was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable about the history, culture, flora, fauna, geology, geography of not just the sites I visited, but also the neighbouring islands as well! Ross' enthusiasm for his job really shone though (even though he must have done each tour several hundred times already), and he took really good care of each group I was a part of. As we were hiking down the Manoa valley, it started pouring heavily, and to avoid holding everyone up, Ross ran a good mile to the van and drove it up to pick us!
There's much more to Hawaii than just the beautiful beaches, and I definitely recommend checking it out on the educational tours offered by this company. They pick you up from or near your hotel and provide you with everything you need: plenty of bottled water, hiking sticks and backpacks. Just make sure you wear proper shoes (that you don't mind getting dirty) and not some flimsy pair of sandals or flipflops. Oh, and a poncho or raincoat if you mind the rain.
My experience on these tours really made me feel like a part of the island, which made me awfully sad when I finally had to leave - it was like leaving a piece of me behind. I only wish I had more time to spend exploring the rest of the island with them. 'Til we meet again!
