“Two thumbs up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

I went for the diamond head tour and the Manoa waterfall hike, and both were led by Ross, who was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable about the history, culture, flora, fauna, geology, geography of not just the sites I visited, but also the neighbouring islands as well! Ross' enthusiasm for his job really shone though (even though he must have done each tour several hundred times already), and he took really good care of each group I was a part of. As we were hiking down the Manoa valley, it started pouring heavily, and to avoid holding everyone up, Ross ran a good mile to the van and drove it up to pick us!

There's much more to Hawaii than just the beautiful beaches, and I definitely recommend checking it out on the educational tours offered by this company. They pick you up from or near your hotel and provide you with everything you need: plenty of bottled water, hiking sticks and backpacks. Just make sure you wear proper shoes (that you don't mind getting dirty) and not some flimsy pair of sandals or flipflops. Oh, and a poncho or raincoat if you mind the rain.

My experience on these tours really made me feel like a part of the island, which made me awfully sad when I finally had to leave - it was like leaving a piece of me behind. I only wish I had more time to spend exploring the rest of the island with them. 'Til we meet again!

“Cancelled Tour Without Notice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

We had booked 2 tours with this company months before our stop in Honolulu as part of a cruise. We were shocked to find out when we telephoned from the arranged pick up location for the first tour that both our tours had been cancelled. The excuse we were first given was that it was due to the American government shutdown. This was false as Diamond Head is a state park and not affected by the closure. We received no contact from the company despite the fact we had booked directly with them and they had our e-mail address. We got an e-mail time stamped after our phone call. Later we were told that the tour was cancelled because they did not have any vehicles. We found out that Oahu Nature Tours did a ship shore excursion to Diamond Head. So the real reason our tour was cancelled was that all their resources were devoted to the cruise ship and the just ignored or forgot about us. They had to know this well in advance and should have told us when they knew. We understand them giving priority to the ships but normally a company tells you this well in advance so you can make other arrangements. That is what is inexcusable simply doing nothing and leaving us stranded at the pick up point. So when booking with them make sure there are no cruiseships in port.

“Very good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

We finally took the plunge and booked a tour to experience the North Shore. This was a very well executed tour, with a comfortable bus and knowledgeable driver. We took the tour number 8, North Shore and circle island tour. Ok now a couple of beefs, which I was lead to believe by our guide, are not uncommon. I assumed when it said we visit a shrimp farm, we were stopping and hopefully sampling the amazing fare, unfortunately not, even though that is the impression given in the brochure. Secondly we merely drove through the town of Haleiwa, which really rated a stop, as it was full of local people making and selling stuff. My wife and I could not really understand why we spent so much time at a Japanese temple, which had nothing to do with Hawaii, it's nature or it's history, we would happily have gone without this to spend the time elsewhere.
Anyway, it was a good afternoon out, and gave us a taste, but it could have been a little more.

Aloha! Thank you for the review! We always appreciate feedback, good or bad! We do have a different tour that stops at the shrimp farm to sample the local delicacies, so we try not to duplicate the tours too much! A lot of our guests are very excited to visit the Byodo Temple as it's something that is very different from anything on the mainland.

We hope that you will try another tour with us on your next visit, perhaps the Waimea Circle Island Tour?

Mahalo!

“Diamond Head”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We thought this tour was exactly what we wanted. The transportation was a short tour bus (new and comfortable). Our guide was friendly. We did encounter traffic so we felt a bit rushed to do our hike. We hiked up and down 1hour 10 minutes. There were 20 of us. It WAS steeper and more had many more steps than moderate. I think our guide was trying to make up time from the traffic. I would recommend this adventure. Beautiful views and many reminders of it being a military instillation at one time.

Aloha Mrs Debe,

We thank you for the feedback for this tour! The Diamond Head Hike is one of our favorites. Waikiki traffic can be a pain sometimes but it can be nice to sit in the air conditioned bus and listen to the guide for a while! We recommend our Waimea tour for your next visit and hope to see you again soon!
