My wife and I are both experienced divers (divemasters). We will never dive with Dive Oahu again.
We did a two-tank day dive and a two-tank night dive. On the day dive, we set up our gear only to find that the O-rings on the tank were leaking. It turns out that they not only didn't have O-rings on the boat, they didn't have any in the shop! Later conversations with the manager said that they simply too expensive to replace when they started to leak (!). It took me two tanks, and my wife about five tanks, to find one that didn't leak. Second, they give you an 80CF tank for the first dive (standard) but a 63CF tank for the second tank. What? Clearly they are minimizing bottom time.
The first dive was nice, but the guide (Steve) went very quickly. He did this despite knowing I had a camera and wanted to take pictures. Upon ascent, they moved the boat and very soon we were suiting up. A 40 minute surface interval after a 98 foot dive? Dangerous!
The second dive was to a reef near an old sewer pipe. The guide went REALLY fast this dive, and with the small tanks, we of course burned through our air extremely quickly.
On the night dive, we were told that we would be diving with an advanced class. This was fine because we had our own guide. However, the boat was supposed to hold 16 divers, yet there were 17 students, four paid divers, and three or four guides/instructors. Wow, full boat. First dive went fine. Very short interval again. But, when we were getting ready to go home, they couldn't start the boat. Apparently it has two engines, and although one engine would start, they couldn't drive with just that one engine. What?? So they had to move everything off one side of the deck (already packed full of dive gear) in the middle of the black ocean to expose the engine, climb in, and do emergency surgery to get the engine started.
Together, these things paint the picture of a company that puts making money far ahead of safety and even routine maintenance.
