My 5 year old daughter and I spent half a day at this zoo in July. It is not so big that it will consume an entire day, but it is large enough to provide good value for the price of admission. If you love birds, there are many to see here, including rare birds of paradise and the even rarer Hawaiian nene. The animals were pretty active when we were there- even my daughter with her short attention span wanted to stop and watch some of them playing. She really liked the children's zoo area. Please note that if you are going to do the children's zoo you should visit as early as possible, before school groups and day care groups descend upon it. There are also some very nice garden areas to walk through, but younger children (such as mine) may find this boring. There is limited food available for purchase- typical hamburgers and such with a few local teriyaki dishes- but the zoo's free-roaming peacocks like to hang out near the tables, which can make for a charming dining experience for the little ones. This zoo is definitely worth a visit of a few hours.
