Owner description: Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

“Lovely spot to picnic, sunbathe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you are staying in Waikiki, you can't miss it. It is large, beautiful, good for everything you can do in a park. You'll find weekend ethnic festivals, concerts, art shows. Everyone who lives here uses Kapiolani.

“Run”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

There's usually an event almost every weekend, more so in the summer- Korean festival, steel guitar festival, ukulele festival... The park is great for running around, flat with workout stations and water fountains.

“A nice place for the morning run!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

It's a very cute park where you can do your morning runs! Palm trees hide you from the sun, and water fountains provide you with drinking water. Also it has tennis courts and soccer/football field.

“Evening promenade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We were there when the Korean festival was beginning (mid-July). It was a lovely evening to take a stroll. We saw families enjoying picnics; couples enjoying the evening. We even saw fireworks from the harbor. A perfect night with a gentle breeze....ahhhhh.

“Beautiful Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

It is near the Zoo and Aquarium. If you enjoy lots of trees, shade, and big open grasses to walk and sit/relax, this is a great park. There isn't any significant to do other than to visit and relax/exercise. They usually have festivals held at the park and it is in good view of Diamond Head. Parking is street side and is difficult to get to especially driving and fighting traffic. It is in close vicinity/walking distance from a lot of the hotels in Waikiki/downtown.
