“Beautiful beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

I stayed at this hotel 2 nights in April , had a great time . This hotel is more family oriented , not lots to do at night . But we had fun walking to the strip and checking out all the wonderful stores and great places to eat. Waikiki beach is beautiful , I did not want to leave this beach at all , could have spent my entire vacation there . The best part of our stay was the Luau, oh boy, what fun. The food was ok , but the show was fantastic , we totally enjoyed every performance, not to mention the good looking men in the show ...wow . This hotel as I mentioned is great if you have a family, the grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is definetly a family setting. I would definetly go back for the Luau and the beach , but If I were to travel without children I would probably not stay at this hotel .

We've stayed in Waikiki several times and I was often asked why we never stayed at the Hale Koa since I'm eligible. So we gave it a try and decided that one visit is enough for us. It may just have been the staff we interacted with, but the lack of the "aloha spirit" was evident. The room itself was adequate and clean, but was located next to a very loud, heat generating air handler that made the lanai unusable. For future visits, we'll go back to comparably priced, better lodging in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the noisy air handler.

Service is top notch along with the entire property...The Luau is one of the best as is the Warrior's lounge Comedy Club...haven't laughed that hard in years...The gardens are just beautiful..sitting outside by the pool and enjoying an adult drink or shaved ice can't be beat. We didn't bring any kids with us..for those that do..there is plenty of space for them to play or swim..I can't really say enough about the "Hale Koa" Resort...

First, what an amazing hotel, over 60 acres of just beauty. The gardens, the park, the beach, the barefoot bear by the beach, you just cannot deny it has a lot of pretty spaces at discounted prices. The water was crystal clear and incredibly beautiful. The hotel has a lot of comforts. The beds are cozy and not too hard or soft. There is a hidden refrigerator in the bathroom-yes, the bathroom. Its under the sink and behind a cabinet door. I owe someone else for finding this one out, because I didn't find out for 3 days. You'll only need it for water anyways. The NEX on the bottom floor is fantastic for whatever you need and I do mean just about everything. The rental car agent and Pleasant Holidays tour organizer for patrons of the hotel, were absolutely tops. They set me up with everywhere I wanted to go and even gave a discount or two on several trips. The luau was fantastic and sunset strolls along the beach were memorable. Every Friday at the Hilton, which is next door they have fireworks for about 7-10 minutes. Its a free view and great time. The only thing to mark down was the food establishments. While tolerable there were better choices a short walk from the hotel and at cheaper prices. The lack of a place to eat for those who arrived late was constantly frustrating new arrivals. All eateries close at 10PM. So, if you're planning your trip here, plan ahead. Other than that the people were awesome and incredible helpful all the time. Now this may not be the most luxurious hotel along Waikiki, but the price of $154 per night for an ocean view more than makes up for that, not that you'll be in your room much. Overall awesome experience!

I am a retired US Navy Commander after 27.5 years. One of the best retirement "perks" I ever received was the chance to stay at this very excellent hotel on 62 acres of gardens, grass and amenities right on one of the world's BEST beaches,(Waikiki Beach). There are two hotel towers, either one of which is terrific. The food at any of the restaurants is great, fresh and with a wide variety. The Sunday Champagne brunch is a MUST. They have the BEST LUAU in all of Oahu and at a reasonable price. Comedy Night is also a "DO NOT MISS". All employees are the best, totally friendly and extremely honest. The Mai Tais at the Barefoot Bar are the best for the money. Be sure to go to the travel and tour briefing for real bargains on many discounted tour tickets. "The Pointe" fitness club is marvelous as are the massages. The Navy Exchange on the ground floor has a myriad of adult bottled beverages. Enjoy. You serd your country. Now enjoy. your c

Room Tip: Garden side rooms are cheaper. The best floor is the 5th Floor in the beach tow.er

Everything is great there :) the food is generic, but its hotel food. That being said, its well prepared for generic food. Service was outstanding. Every single employee was courteous, helpful, and smiled endlessly.

Room Tip: it is worth the upgrade for a garden view!!

Located in quietly historic Ft. DeRussey near the heart of Waikiki, the Hale Koa Hotel is more like a resort for active duty military and their families, retired military, and DoD civilians. I've stayed in other Honolulu hotels, and for those who have served our country, the Hale Koa can't be beat. They have 2 decent restaurants, and The Point has more than adaquate fitness facilities to keep you from putting on too much vacation weight, because you will overindulge. The PX has enough food, drink, and souvenirs to keep you out of the so-called "convenience" stores (like ABC) and tourist traps, and while you may think the "orientation" you're invited to the first morning is a sales pitch for their tours (it is), I took the "Home Of The Brave" tour, and it was well-worth it, especially with the military discount. You can't be sure of getting out to the USS Arizona Memorial, what with the afternoon Navy launches being cancelled due to the sequester, but Glenn and his family will make sure that not only do you get on board, but that you'll see many of the other sites attacked on December 7th, 1941. The $7 per night parking is definitely the best deal in all Waikiki, as almost no decent hotels include free parking anymore. Some charge up to $20 a day! They also have free (wired) Internet, but you get a code to access the wireless in common areas. The ancient Bilboa tree is the center of attention in the couryard, and dominates the scene. The Barefoot Bar has music every night, practically right on the beach, which is wide and sandy and not as crowded as most of Waikiki. I can't say enough about this place - even the partial ocean view rooms are sufficient, since you're gonna be out enjoying the park where the Hale Koa is located. Make sure to visit the Hawaii US Army Museum next door - it's free and was built in a WWI-era artillary bunker that couldn't be demolished! Feels safe with armed MPs patrolling the grounds and security guards in the parking garage. Check out the comedy shows in the Warrior Lounge on Tuesday and Saturday evenings. Aloha!

Room Tip: Get a partial ocean view above the third floor to enjoy your lanai.
