We just returned from a one week stay at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. I would highly recommend this hotel for a number of reasons. First, the location is excellent. You are in the middle of Waikiki and of course, on the beach. There are numerous shops and restaurants all in walking distance.
The second reason is that the hotel is very accommodating. Upon arrival, the front desk informed us that the hotel was over booked and they needed to upgrade us to a more expensive room. There was no extra charge for this. Alllllllloha! This room had a partial ocean view and number of free ammenities. We used the free local and long distance phone quite a bit.
The third reason is the hotel is staffed with wonderful people. The concierge, housekeepers, front desk and pool attendants were helpful and prompt. I dropped my shoe from our 12th floor lanai balcony and within minutes a staff person returned my shoe to our room. The staff is friendly and they have a good sense of humor.
The fourth reason is that our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and the furniture looked fairly new. See attached photos.
We ate one breakfast, lunch and dinner at Duke's. They have a nice breakfast buffet. The line looked long for dinner so we ordered food at the bar and ate it on our lanai, terrace. The order took 5 minutes.
It's a great place to stay because you can swim at the beach and then swim at the hotel. If you forget something you can run upstairs and get your gear. It's worth it to stay on the beach. The hotel sponsored a sand castle contest while we were there. The winning family took a Hawaiian canoe trip. The whirlpool is also awesome with super strong jets. We found it relaxing after a long day of touring.
Around 4-6:00 pm a band or some type of Hawaiian group will play outside on the patio. You can swim to live music. They also have some live music in the lobby.
The work out room is in the basement level. There are three windows that look into the swimming pool. As you run on the treadmill you can see legs swimming around the pool. Little kids find this fun and like to look in the windows at the deeper end. They also have lockers in the lower level. We found it to be quite safe here and didn't use them.
I've read reviews that some think the walls are too thin here. We stayed in a room right by the elevator and found it was quiet. We had no problem with the noise and slept well every night.
We also found it easy to get a chair at the beach or pool. It rained every day we were there but we still went swimming.
The sunsets at 6:45 were the most amazing sight you can see. People sit outside and watch the sun go down. You'll hear applause after wards. It's great.
I would recommend one thing. If you stay at the hotel, ask for a room on the opposite side of the Cheesecake Factory. The restaurant next to the hotel has a giant fan that is noisy and at some times blows out a greasy smell. If you are paying to have an ocean view, you would want to hear the waves and not the fan which never seems to shut off. I think this was built after the hotel was put up so I don't fault the hotel for this.
We've stayed in many hotels including the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Mahalo!
